Wow... When I first got into barbershop, Ebb Tide was the first tag that I ever looked up on youtube... It wasn't long thereafter that I realized I needed to hear the song that this amazing tag went to. Eventually, I found a little gem in the Allies singing it, and it instantly became my favorite song. Since then, i have listened to every video I could find online of this song. I can earnestly say, without a doubt, this is one of the top 3. Well performed ladies.. Oh, one last thing... marry me?
absolutely incredible and unbelievable. 10 years later and i’m reeling from the beauty of your guys’ talent. truly a special gift, thank you so much for sharing.
Amazing! One honest and perhaps naive question, the tenor seems to go a little flat on the post. Is this for tuning reasons with the accompaniment or just a human singer going flat? I ask because these girls are so solid that I wouldn't be surprised they'd do this on purpose for a technical reason. Thanks!
Your masterful musicality coupled with your openhearted-passion is literally overpowering. Forgive my onslaught of commentary, but you deserve to know how special you ladies are, and how extraordinary your gifts and hearts are. You are truly inspirational.
Awesome effort! I really love how you use a cinder block hallway for your reverb. Organic echo!!! LOL Good job, gang! Classic song taken to another level. Thank you! :)
Tonight I was looking for versions of this song, and I found this one, after hearing about four or five previous works on this song. This is the one I like best, but I think the place where it was recorded doesn´t do justice to the excellent work of this quartet, because it gives a kind of echo or reverberance which makes it sound like in a hall or a concert place. Apart from that it is really great and moving. The best I have heard.
This is the most wonderful quartet I have ever heard. I am speechless! It makes me want to go back and sing again.. could never be this good.. Keep up the great work girls!
I stand corrected. she IS an angel. when you get into your second half century, you start losing quality at the higher registers (especially when spending much of your first half century in front of lazy trumpet players). Listening to same through a good system makes all the difference.
I've heard quite a few men quartets and chorus' sing, but there was something about ths arrangement that set it apart - musically and in singing - than ALL the others. You version reached inside my chest and gave a gentle tug on my heart...Thank you. Now, off I go for another box of Kleenex.
Your singing and your blend and chemistry is amazing. Your hand movements are totally in sync with other barbershop groups. However, Ali's bouncing when it came to her "lead solo" was so cute, getting so excited to have her voice stand out in a song. Keep on with your group! Can't wait for new stuff from you all.
Wow... Just wow... that was so awesome I can barely describe it. If you ladies are still singing together, don't ever stop! This is by FAR one of the best renditions of this song on RUclips :)
@The Doodler yeah but a minor 6th in the bass and a few seconds after the chord hits? Almost seems like someone was sliding a desk in the background and it came through in the recording.
First the tide rushes in Plants a kiss on the shore Then rolls out to sea And the sea is very still once more So I rush to your side Like the oncoming tide With one burning thought Will your arms open wide At last we're face to face And as we kiss through an embrace I can tell, I, I can feel You are love, you are real Really mine in the rain In the dark, in the sun Like the tide at its ebb I'm at peace in the web of your arms Ebb tide
Aww I was looking for another version of Ebb Tide (I love the Allies version, but it's the only one I've heard) and this is so lovely! Not normally a fan of ladies (awkward... I am one) but this works beautifully. Your tenor is so pure!
Congrats. Marvelous to hear. The king-pin is 1st soprano. Superb moments, good cross listening among all, very well calibrated. If possible, avoid fffs - drop a half - f wherever possible to avoid distortion and very low resultants (may be effect of the room, also). Congrats again, good news for a polyphonic listener.
GQ is one of the very best of the women's quartets. Great sound. Great group chemistry. But for me, there still remains a fundamental difference between the sound of women's voices in a group vs. men. The men's sound is richer and more easily differentiated regarding the parts. Two different instruments. Like comparing an oboe with a french horn. Both are wonderful in their own right. But both are not equally good at all the same things.
Your angel? I beg to differ. I have it on the best authority that there are professional angel singers that are taking notes on how it's done. Seriously, I only discovered y'all a month ago, and have fallen in serious love with you as a group. Keep up the good work. Please.
So beautiful guys! By the way, Aly, try this out: instead of going up to third again on the "I can tell, I can feel, you are LOVE," go up to the fifth to make it an awesome 9th chord!
@paul manning: I'd have to agree; the chief complaint given to barbershop quartets is that the material is not fresh. Has nothing to do with the musicality or the singing ability. They also question whether or not you can do an entire Vegas show around quartet singing. I think GQ has both of those criticisms beat handily. They have fresh material (not much traditional material), and lots of it.
THAT ALTO!!!!!!! OMG THIS SOUNDS REALLY REALLY GOOD

Your performance set countless chills down my spine.
So wild to watch this video 10 years later, and now they're an international barbershop quartet medalist. What a journey.
definitely the most beautiful version of this tag ive heard! tim waurick is a close second haha
Agreed
I still give it to Tim Waurick
Wow, what a gem! Fantastic!
Wow, such a heavenly sound! That first chord on "tide" gave me chills.

Your masterful musicality coupled with your openhearted-passion is literally overpowering. Forgive my onslaught of commentary, but you deserve to know how special you ladies are, and how extraordinary your gifts and hearts are. You are truly inspirational.

Incredible job…well done ladies!!
Fantastic blending - from a former member of the VM!
That was absolutely STUNNING!!!

Your Lead singer is really exciting to watch. Crowns coming soon! Great singing!
0:50 gives me unbelievable chills.
This is the most wonderful quartet I have ever heard. I am speechless! It makes me want to go back and sing again.. could never be this good.. Keep up the great work girls!
I just heard this on my Spotify and know I'm gonna learn it on the piano.
Aw wow!!! you guys gave me chills all the way through..!!!
I LOVE THEM!♡♡♡
Best female quartet ever

best ladies barbershop i've ever heard!
Holy moly, this is music!

The chord at 1:25 gives me chills every time!
You guys are so amazing. You need to come out to Hawaii for the Sweet Adelines Convention when it comes here. PLEASE!!!! :D
I have to ask: how high can she actually sing?
No clue
How high can who sing
WOW, absolutely brilliant. The arrangement is just fine regardless of who sings it "normally". Very well done, thanks for sharing
Nope, I will NOT turn down my volume. Not for something as beautiful as this :D
Outstanding!!!!!
Wonderful
lovely
Very impressive, especially the alto
fantastic!!! Truly angelic!
I saw your group picture in the dictionary under 'Awesome'.
then at 2:12 a low minor 6th comes out of no where. I wonder where these notes were coming from.
I hear both of what you hear. I don't know where they are coming from either
@The Doodler yeah but a minor 6th in the bass and a few seconds after the chord hits? Almost seems like someone was sliding a desk in the background and it came through in the recording.
they’re probably singing near practice rooms where other people are playing
really good!
Fantastic!
Well done!
Wow, ladies! Blew me away.
WOW! That was outstanding!
AMAZING.
Very well done ladies! I'm used to hearing this done in male quartets but you sang it beautifully as I really really enjoyed it! Keep it up! :)
sitting here with chills
So Good ... you're harmonies are amazing and your pitch and blending technique is perfect I love it !! Keep Singing Ladies :)
beautiful. many congratulations
excellent!!! BRAVO!
This is so beautiful, I actually shed a tear. Keep it up ladies :')
Why is it that a Million $ can not replicate the outstanding acoustics of a ratty stairwell?
Lovely!
Wow! Very nice, girls!
Im almost sure i died for a second. That was amazing
First the tide rushes in
Plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea
And the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side
Like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought
Will your arms open wide
At last we're face to face
And as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I, I can feel
You are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain
In the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb
I'm at peace in the web of your arms
Ebb tide
So much better then the all male original.
Beautiful tenor, Amanda. And Ally killed the Lead part. And the Katies killed the bass and bari. Stairwells are fabulous for quartet singing.
Aww I was looking for another version of Ebb Tide (I love the Allies version, but it's the only one I've heard) and this is so lovely! Not normally a fan of ladies (awkward... I am one) but this works beautifully. Your tenor is so pure!
BRAVO!!!!!
That tenor!
my girls quartet is singing this song( i am tenor) GQ tube
I'm a tenor and I want to do this with my quartet so bad!!!!
Anyone else hear at 1:30 it sounds like a low undertone a major third down.
+NeptuneatDawn They are in unison at that point... maybe a passing truck? The song is on their album on iTunes, highly recommended.
I hear what you're talking about I literally have no idea what that is
Gorgeous 💔
Live > studio recording imho

I don't know if we can compete with this ;P

yep. The more I listen to this, the more I realize that I was WAY out of line questioning someone's qualifications to angeldome. Seriously.
0-0 holy cow what a sound 0-0
Have you heard Bobby Hatfield sing this it is ethereal
what a sound 0-0
So beautiful guys! By the way, Aly, try this out: instead of going up to third again on the "I can tell, I can feel, you are LOVE," go up to the fifth to make it an awesome 9th chord!
Lead is a rising star champ...figures. :P
wOW!!!
I bet that captain regretted asking if they had any last words…
Where can I find the Fred King arrangement? Googled it, but I'm having a hard time.
You ladies sound stellar, btw. I've become quite the fan!
cantam demais...

They always bend their knees haha
Is there a way I can find sheet music to this?
What key is this in?
It ends in E but the majority is in A :)
haha, still enamored with that? :)
Is this for real? If so, why aren't these girls auditioning for at least America's got talent?
There's no feel to it. Some people think that when they use their hands and body it produces feel. Negative...
0-0 holy cow what a sound 0-0
