I cry everytime I watch this. It is a beautiful tribute to Freddie. It is also a goodbye to John. This was the last time Deaky played with them. You should check out Rogers song called Old Friends another tribute to Freddie. They all loved him a lot

    It’s a Sad song ever written!!! 😢
There is so much to know about Freddie's life ... and much we will never know ... !!! 😢
I only know that the more I investigate, the more I admire his genius and creativity!
How many unwritten songs ... how many melodies were left unfinished ...!
Today is November 21.... soon it will be November 24 ..., sad date for all your fans !!!!!! And very important for millions who admire his talent
Freddie Mercury 😢 ..., I think England is indebted to you !!!
    💔💔💔💔
    FREDDIE..., YOU’R A LEGEND!!! 💔💔💔💔
    (Sorry about my poor English)

So beautiful! Brian is such an underrated singer. He and Freddie shared vocals on the original studio version of Who wants to live forever. This song truly showed that Freddie was really like a brother to them, not just their frontman. The looks on their faces, in their voices and in every note their sorrow is clear and were doing all they can to keep it together and not break down crying, (not that I'd blame them if they did). The champagne glass was in homage to Freddie who would toast his audiences with champagne sometimes during special gigs. Earlier this year, Brian May and his wife went on pilgrimage to Zanzibar, where Freddie was born to retrace his childhood steps and see his childhood house, his old school and the hospital where Freddie and his sister were born. I recommend "these are the days of our lives" Freddie's last, onscreen music video and a beautiful, heartfelt, loving farewell to his family, friends and fans. In case your wondering, bass player John Deacon took Freddie's death the hardest and after making this video and recording the song he retired from music and the public eye completely. While he's basically involved in the band's finances and he gave his blessing for the movie Bohemian rhapsody to be made, he's basically a recluse. He never even really wanted to be a rock star from the get go. At one point in every concert, Adam makes a little "elephant in the room" speech that he doesn't consider himself a replacement, just another addition to the Queen family honoring Freddie's memory and celebrating Queen.

Lovely song, but I always turn the volume down and watch the pictures of Freddie. The song is so sad. I accidentally watched it and cried for over an hour. Won't do that again! I think when this was released, Princess Diana had just died, so they dedicated it to her also. Lovely reaction as always! Thanks!

The guys were so good doing this song in remembrance of Freddie. I don’t think it was a sad event for them because they said it was the way they used to heal. Yes, John was sad. John felt by 1997 that it was all over, and he had mentioned something about it being over shortly after Freddie’s death. He stayed with the band to finish up on some of the work they had that Freddie Mercury had recorded for them to put on an album, “ made in heaven” & The third greatest hit the queen album. After that work and this song was completed in 1997 was when John retired from music.

This was Johns last recording. He retired after this. There is also a video showing the making of this video which is a much watch. This song makes me cry every time. Roger also wrote a song for for Freddie called Old Friends. The video is heart wrenching

Check out Roger's Old Friends. They all took Freddie's death hard but probably Roger's grief seems to be overlooked. He's a bit more private in his grief but it shows in his eyes and body language even to this day. He seems to be guarded a bit when Freddie is mentioned etc so he doesn't choke up. All you need to do is watch how the 2 interacted to see their "soulmate" bond.

I agree with what you say totally. I saw an interview done fairly recently and Roger was asked about when he found out Freddie had died - he was driving to Freddies house when he found out. He was holding it together pretty well but then he just broke down in tears. They stopped the interview thankfully. I just wanted to put my arms around him and hug his pain away.

This song evokes so many emotions. It’s a beautiful tribute & this line kills me:
“And now the party must be over
    I guess we'll never understand
    The sense of your leavin'
Was in the way it was planned”
Idk, it just makes me think of how Freddie lived at the end, committed to singing until he couldn’t any longer, However, in the end he made the decision to stop taking his meds bc he was obviously losing the battle.
His PA Peter aka Phoebe stated that when Freddie’s sight began to fail he really gave up hope. One comment he made stood out. I wish I had it verbatim, but what phoebe said was something like, “once Freddie realize the showman had died, the man could no longer live.”
    😢😢😢
Oh and don’t even get me started on John.

John retired from music all together in 1997. And Adam is actually a very good singer and imo is doing a very good job singing the songs. Like you say, no one can replace Freddie, but he's not trying to. He's doing his own thing and he says he's doing it as a trobute and as a way to help Brian and Roger continue playing their music. Adam loves Freddie alot too, he's a big fan. Anyway, I looove this song. It's so sad. I'm amazed they could all keep it together.

Yes, thats one of the things I really respect about Adam. He knows how special Freddie was and is very open about not trying to replace him.

This song is loaded with symbolism. Many of the lines echo lines from other Queen songs, so it's a bit of a trip down memory lane, and such a sad one. It just about leaves me in a quivering heap on the floor whenever I watch the video. It is so well done, so artistically good. "A hand above the water, an angel reaching for the sky" brings to mind the statue of Freddie at Montreux. It might help to distract yourself from the sadness with this delightful bit, "Roger Meddows Taylor will hijack your heart." I know it always cheers me up. ruclips.net/video/uZ4lP9GP7vU/видео.html

The ultimate showman , the ultimate group . There's never been anyone like Freddie , there never will be . A masterpiece of a tribute song . Don't know if you've seen the Live Aid concert part with Queen . That was the ultimate ' Gig ' , but the greatest single live was ' Somebody to love ' live at Montreal in 1981 . If you get a chance to review either you will be blown away

  • @bettybaby63

Ok I had to go back and find that quote as I knew I didn’t really do it justice. From Peter Freestone’s book:
“There was the person and there was the showman, each vying with the other to move the physical carcass around.
Generally the showman won. Deep down inside its what Freddie always wanted. He had always been a showman. In its latter stages the disease killed the showman. The showman went first and without the showman, the person was unable to continue. Freddie was no longer in a position where he could hold his head up and know he could defend himself. When the showman died, there was nothing left to fight for. “
    Heartbreaking.

Sassy, a lovely reaction to a beautiful song, as some others have already mentioned you should have a look at Roger's tribute "Old Friend". Another one you might like to check out is Freddie's "The Great Pretender" paying special attention to the three lovely ladies singing backup.

I agree with Deacy’s Girl. You should start checking out some of Brian’s & Roger’s solo work. Try Brian’s Back to the Light & Driven by You live at the Brixton Academy. My favorite of Rogers Tenement Funster live & I’m in love with my car. 🚗💨 And of course of Old Friends the video. ❤️

Yes, Brian & Roger both had great voices. You must react to Roger singing “I’m in love with my car”, the music video is quite entertaining.
And Brian singing his version of “Too much love will kill you” since it’s about himself. The link : ruclips.net/video/rNa5kRX45tg/видео.html

After reading many of the comments below I find that many of you think that this was written in rememberence of Freddies death. That is not the case, in fact it was written after princess Dianas death and has become what it is afterwords.

sassy when freddie & queen started out they did not have much of any thing. john got married & asked their manger for a loan to buy a house & he said they did not have any money but he was riding in a new rolls. so they took him to court & freddie wrote 2 songs about it. freddie was known as the peace maker & i do not think i have ever heard any thing bad about freddie but wait untill you hear these songs. "flick of the wrist" is said the be the first & then "death on two legs". i really do not care for the first but the legs has better music & rhythm & you will not believe the lyrics. also i came across freddie & monset & opera. put in montserrat caballe about freddie mercury & opera jacob stege. they talk about freddie. listed right under this are 2 more videos about freddie & monesty. you sill see them & just click back to pull them up. the one is where freddies tells her he is sick. so sad i cried. the last is about her talking about freddie. well this is more then enough sassy. thanks & i hope you enjoy them as much as i did. betty
