A small correction! an alba form means lacking the colored pigment entirely, but the flower can have 2 colors (ex: Paph. Maudiae Green, it lacks the purple), semi alba means it has the pigment, but only on isolated parts ;) think this is a more correct way of saying it.

I purchased a young Cattleya Dick Smith Paradise last month. Was told she’s 2 years from blooming... I have a wait ahead of me much like your wait with this orchid. You must be so excited! Can’t wait to see the bloom open!

Ok ok, I have a fun quick video suggestion as the Royal Wedding is getting closer. What orchid would be fitting for the royal wedding. This would be fun and light. #harry/meghan. So exciting. 😊

One of my Cattleyas is doing the same trick, two buds on a two month old pseudobulb discovered them just a week ago

Cattleya buds are interesting because the lip isn't covered by the sepals and petals like Phalaenopsis, I've never seen one before 😊

My friend gave me a L. purpurata canea seedling. It's a pain. Cause I have to wait for the blooms. I'll just buy a new one when I see it.

Wow! They are pretty expensive in Australia, I checked ebay(basically the only place to orchids online) and a seedling was an average of 18 aus dollars

I am finding in my climate that many buds inside a sheath tend to get moist and decline before they break the sheath, so I struggle with the cutting decisions

Hi Danny! I have a question: there's this cattleya I have that has been through a lot (sadly). It came with only two completely shriveled pseudobulbs, and ever since I had it, it produced only one large pseudobulb that became sunburnt when we were moving (it's still the healthiest part of the plant) and hasn't done anything since then (2 years ago). My question is: Will the old pseudobulbs become plump again if I water it more often than usual, or do I have to just live with the unsightly pseudobulbs? Will repotting it help? My other cattleyas which were rescues are doing fine and creating multiple pseudobulbs, but this one just breaks my heart and I'm so worried for it.

Hi Danny. Circumz 😬. Perhaps stake the bud ? Do you repot your unboxed orchids immediately. The seller ( orchids.com) suggests a month after receiving. Is the catt Happy Holidays in moss, though I’ve repot into semi hydro from shows before with no problem. Thanks for fun and interesting facts of this Cattleya Purpurata. Probably need this info a year from now as my collection expands 😫.

bhahaha don't get my video demonetized :P kidding, the main stem is sturdy it's ok, it's supposed to have a floppy peduncle :P it really depends on the orchid, sometimes it's better to repot sooner rather than later. My Happy Holiday is repotted yes, but it had active root tips and soon new roots from the new growths. It also was a very easy repot due to the medium, no real root damage so, why not. The Dendrobium Nestor is not yet repotted, with these dendrobiums it is a very good idea to wait for new growth and new roots. They can get severely unbalanced and set back due to their growth habit. The Aeranthes is repotted already too, it was an easy repot, had growing root tips and is a monopodial, no real need to wait for 'new growth' :P so just asses the orchid. Sometimes it is better to wait, other times 1 month would lead to the worst time to repot an orchid.

Hi Danny (sorry if I spelt it wrong ;-;), my phals leaves are starting to droop and I've soaked the pot but the leaves still haven't perked up after a few hours and I'm pretty worried. Do I need to wait a little longer? :(

Sometimes the leaves won't rebound from drooping, but they're still functional. What happened to make them droop? That will help diagnose the problem 😊

I'm not really sure, but i think it's dehydration. But does changing the medium cause droopy leaves?

Does the bud counts as a type of sepal?
