    "Homesteading" channels are popping up like weeds, and after having watched more than a few, I've come to the conclusion that most of them are just jumping on the latest bandwagon. So many of them don't really know what they are doing. You two are my absolute favorites, mainly because it's obvious this is not some vlogging an alternative lifestyle experiment. You are authentic homesteaders, and your content reflects that. You are very knowledgeable, and your methods are tried and true -- keep doing it your way.

    • @amechelb
      @amechelb 5 лет назад +23

      Just because someone is new to something doesn’t mean it’s some experiment to them. The reason this family is better is because they already went through the learning stages all new homesteaders and farmers go through. It’s not a fad or trend. It’s people wanting something more than a 9-5 and wasting their lives away for someone else. I think your comment was a little unnecessary and I’m sure the majority of homesteaders would prefer to be lifting each other up not making comparisons and putting each other down. This isn’t just entertainment for the masses. It’s people’s actual lives.

      amechelb im sorry to tell you that ive come across some channels that are exactly as PQSusan described. It was almost painful to watch them. They were basically in it for whatever clicks they could get. Even to the point on one that they seemed to be making fun of homesteaders. It was shameful really. Im glad you have avoided seeing these goofy channels. Im all for folks learning new things and im patient while they do, in fact i purposefully watch to give them encouragement. Its when folks are demeaning of others that ticks me off most. God bless!

    • @keandric2765
      @keandric2765 5 лет назад +4

      PQSusan SD @Willow Sverge While it might be true that Some of the homesteading channels out there are only in it for clicks does not mean that they all are. I would say it's way more to do with the fact that more and more people are wanting to get back to a more healthy and traditional (in terms of where food comes from) lifestyle as well as the fact that people are seeing that you can make a job of it *If You Want To.* I follow a Lot of homesteading channels, and some have made homesteading And YT-ing their lifestyle and livelihood, but I also follow a few channels where the person or people homestead And have a YT channel And have a job Outside of YT; these people don't put out videos as often and are in it more for the Community aspect than making a living. And like I said at the beginning of my comment, sure, there are some that are doing it only for the views and maybe as a fad thing, but don't just Assume that "most" are. Also, if there Are a number that don't know what they're doing, SO WHAT?? That's probably because a lot of them are Just Starting Out and probably Don't know what they're really doing yet. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just like there's absolutely nothing wrong with these people wanting to make videos documenting their progress; a lot of these people are putting up videos for the same reason that a lot of homesteading YT-ers we all love started: just to document their journey and experiences For Themselves to be able to look back on, or for their kids to be able to look back on :)

    One thing you might try is opening the gut area while laying down then hang it up to pull the guts out. The reason is while laying on its back the guts are against the back area and you can open the gut area without fear of cutting the gut or the stomach. Then when you hang it up gravity will pull it all out of the cavity for you. That way you're not fighting holding the guts back while you're cutting the cavity open. That's how I do my deer and and wild hogs it really is easier and cleaner. I always skin them while hanging up it's much easier.

      Brenda Unland You obviously just don’t “get it”, it isn’t just to shoot something. Many people enjoy eating deer meat, pig meat, cow “beef” meat, chicken, rabbit. etc. etc, etc . Deer hunting is a sport for many men, and women, BUT they process, and eat it, it’s “groceries “ for some people. Some people enjoy watching deer hunting on video. With “all due respect “ so to speak, if this disturbs you, feel free to watch vegan, knitting, doll making, or ANY of the “ milder “ subject channels, and stop whining about this channel, that SO many of us enjoy, men and women alike. We may be from different cultures, but, at our house, we watch WHAT WE LIKE, you have the same right. 😊

    Several years ago we raised two pigs and when the time came we called the slaughter guy who came out and gut the animal and cut into halves and then takes it to the butcher who cuts and wraps and smokes the meat. We decided to keep one half of one pig to cut and wrap ourselves, to practice. That was a learning experience, the pork was so much better than any pork in the grocery stores. I am with you on how once the animal is dead you see it as food for the family and not a pet anymore.

    Deer season isn't going well here either. I always love our animals we've had treated them like there part of the family but I always knew they were to be put in the freezer. Still not easy. I'm glad to see you both working as a team to do all the work. My husband and I do the same thing. Lots of good meat there. Enjoy that this winter

    Prayers for your Dad. You two have been mighty busy. When I grew up on the farm, I could help raise the animals, but I couldn't help process them for our family to eat. So my Step Dad would take them to the butcher to have them processed and by the time he brought the meat home, I was able to enjoy eating it. It is what you do when you are a homesteader. Congrats on all the meat that you got for your family. God Bless Y'all.

    Do you sell the pigskin for leather?
    I know, for me, as an artist, natural hogs hair bristle brushes are my favorite brushes to paint with. The synthetic hogs hair bristle brushes just are not the same. they don't hold as much paint and are just not as stiff.

      Letxs hear it for even using the bristles to make beautiful art too! Not one bit wasted! Not one! Grateful for knowing these animals resources are not being squandered. Now that's gotta be pleasing to "The One Upstairs!" Can these bristles be made available to this or any other artists out there in RUclips LAND, Kevin & Sarah? Use & then reuse, even what eventually ends up in compost! This is true abundance coming from the One who creates all things! 💙 We are connected to this true circle of life by following His instructions! With compassion &
      with kindness. Everything living will eventually have to pass thru life so if we are commanded to be fruitful & multiply, holding back bringing life into our world is not doing something that ends in goodness or abundance. We need to learn about the truth in this!

      many farmer have areas where they take guts and such. Mine is in one of the corners of my field where it then is taken care of by predators and scavengers. It more often than not keeps predators away from your closer in farm animals :)

      All the parts of the animal can be utilized. All the birds on farm can eat the leftover parts the humans decide isn't for their table or for making other needed items or sold.

    I understand how you feel about naming, taming, treating your animals with care prior to dispatching them. When I was a kid, we bought 100 chicks every spring, and in the fall, most of them ended up in the freezer. Yes, it's bittersweet, but you're feeding your family, and you know everything that she ate. Thank you for showing the reality of homesteading.

    My dears, on your video bringing us along when you butchered your two pigs. I think you have always been my favorite in u tube but today I loved you .I think you allowed us into your hearts to see the real love you have for the animals you rais and the joy you receive in knowing you, yourself have raised them without cattleprods , big sticks or other things I've seen stockman exhibit. I'm an old lady and have worked in west texas in the agra business a long time. Iv seen things that made me voice an opinion on that made me pretty unpopular, but I did good work so there were no job repercussions. Hope your dad does well and a special thanks for the work he did for our nation. Bless to you. Mrsjob

    Brings back great memories of living on our farm in the 1950-1960. We then butchered 2 pigs and a beef in November. All the neighbors came to help and women cooked all day both times to feed everyone on those busy days. We dipped our pigs in a boiling old bathtub and scrapped off the hair. We wrapped and smoked our own hams,too. These were very happy and fun times in Pennsylvania.

      Gina experiment
      I use salt pepper and garlic with a little basil and rosemary.
      Add some fennel seeds for Italian sausage and pepper flakes for a little heat. But experiment with what you have in the spice cabinet until you find the combination you like 😉 you can make it in any amount you want just make a small patty for a sample .
