      Fun fact: the reason why the disciples ask if the blind man sinned to be born blind is because the early Christians believe that our spirits existed before our births (see Jeremiah 1:5) if our existence began at birth, then it would be impossible for the man’s blindness to be the result of his own sin, so the disciples would have never considered such a possibility and wouldn’t have asked.
      One of the Early Church Fathers named Origen, who was considered the greatest theologian of the 3rd century, also taught that the spirits of men pre-existed.

    • @HiHoSilvey
      @HiHoSilvey 3 месяца назад +1

      @@KnuttyEntertainment There are no documents suggesting early Christians believed in the pre-existence of the soul. The disciples may have believed that the man born blind sinned in rhe womb. Origin was influential but had some neo-platonic beliefs that weren't mainstream.
      Just curious... are you a Mormon? I ask because this is a Mormon belief.

      Yes-THIS!
      This is a biblical drama in the classic tradition of screen dramas going back 70+ years (ie, faithful to the larger story and message, but willing to take a creative liberty here and there, for the sake of dramatic tension, plot arc, etc.). Dallas Jenkins never led us to believe it would ever be otherwise (..."if you want to experience 100% textual accuracy and no extra unwritten characters, situations, etc, then your bible is where you need to go for that. This show is not here to stand in for, or replace your printed scripture.").
      I don't watch his interviews and live streams nearly as much as many others out there, and even I have heard him make this point countless times. That said, it is to his credit, that at certain points in the story-telling, he DOES go to even greater lengths than many of his predecessors in the field (Ben Hur, King of Kings, Greatest Story Ever Told, etc.), to stay mostly accurate on the scriptural details, wherever and whenever he can.
      For those who aren't satisfied with such compromises, and want something 100% faithful, there exists in cinematic form (originally on Netflix-but now available to watch for free on RUclips), the moves, "The Gospel of John" and "The Gospel of Matthew," and all the other "Gospel of..." releases. All of these films, I'm told, consist entirely of narrated scripture, set to live action. That's it-no extra characters, no added situations, no extra this-or-that. Nothing is omitted either, so-fair warning-these movies are really, REALLY long. And on that last point, it bears mentioning that although the film franchise's faithfulness to the source material is second-to-none, the actual exercise of watching one of these epics from beginning to end can be, for some, a bit "like watching paint dry." (quote from an actual viewer, who went on to add that the act of quietly sitting and reading his bible turned out to be way more interesting and engaging to him than the 3-1/2 - 4+ hours of 'action' going on-screen).
      So that's my take. Sorry to go on so long; I probably should have done this as my own post-lol! :-D

      Exactly. It’s like movie adaptions of books. Just like Lord of the Rings, Dune, Harry Potter, etc. they have differences from the source material, but what they do is also draw people into reading the source material and discovering the truth for themselves. So instead of criticizing the show for doing things differently, I see it as an avenue for people to get invested in Jesus and read the source material afterward to get a proper understanding. I see this as a win, but of course the sticklers need to make sure that everything is depicted accurately without any room for creativity or nuance.

    It's important to point out the differences between The Chosen and the Bible. Yet, Dallas Jenkins has stated from the beginning that the TV show was never meant to replace the Bible and that he encouraged viewers to read the Bible for themselves. So, we're seeing things out of Biblical context, which means viewers who aren't familiar with this story could lose a lot. But the TV show is just a form of narrative storytelling.

    Dallas and crew have said multiple times, The Chosen IS NOT the Bible. THE BIBLE is the Bible. This is a TV show based on scripture. This is biblically inspired ENTERTAINMENT. That is all. There’s going to be things that don’t line up perfectly with God’s word and they acknowledge that. This is not a big deal in the context of what The Chosen is trying to do which is just entertainment. What this should do is inspire us to go read the Bible for ourselves and learn God’s words our selves

    • @My_God_is_Jahovah

      That's true, and this is the same as the book vs movie debate. If you watch the movie first, you become accustomed to that first, and likewise, of you read the book first, you are accustomed to it. The problem is that, because the Bible is infallible, whatever representation of it, whatever it may be, is obligated to make it represented correctly. Now, if you watch something as hooking as The Chosen, then you read the Bible, you realise that what you are accustomed to is different, and reading the source material, though it is the Source, it is different and therefore not as engaging.

    • @andrewt3149
      @andrewt3149 4 месяца назад +8

      That is a necessary and important disclaimer however it does not absolve them of the responsibility to portray the Bible as faithfully as they can as it is the word of God. This has a huge impact on existing believers (e.g. those newer to the faith) as well as unbelievers. Sure it is a TV show and they will need to take liberties to make it engaging but they can still do that whilst remaining faithful to Christ's teachings.
      One big issue I had with S04E03 is that they're drawing an unbiblical parallel between David and Bathsheba and the death of Rama.

This scripture in particular holds a special place in my heart and my own healing journey and so much is just missed in its significance when its changed to fit a fictional storyline. The entire storyline of being sent out to be healed at the pool of Siloam holds great significance. You said it so well because it loses great importance which relates to many personally. Not only the pool itself being a mikvah but also the man's journey of faith and being a literal witness to bystanders watching him in the process of receiving his healing. It was not instant it was a walked-out process which speaks volumes.

    I thought I was the only one that noticed that. Biblically, when Jesus told the man to go wash his face in the pool, there was some significance to that. We can assume that the man had to be led by the SPIRIT to the sea because he was blind until he rinsed his face. That whole miracle was a great way to show God’s divinity so beautifully. I still love the show. ❤

    Brandon, you brought out great points and information about what the show missed out on by not having it set in Jerusalem. And I agree they should have included all of the dialog that this miracle has in scripture, and the man's comments (spunkyness?😉) to the Pharisees, Do you want to become His diciples, too? I've always gotten a chuckle out of that, and, IMHO, fits the characteristics of The Chosen.

      But much of that scripture is contradictory. Which should they choose, Corinthians is the earliest but that doesn't mention the three women with spices at the tomb but Corinthians is the only source for the 500 witnesses. Then again Paul never physically met with Jesus, it was only in a vision that happened years after the resurrection. Mark says the women didn't mention the empty tomb to anyone while Matthew & Luke say the women told the disciples. See what I mean, it's a tricky one.

    The problem when somebody says “just go read the book” is very plain and simple, people do not want to read books. Therefore, the medium in which the Bible is being represented should be exact given it (the Bible) is of God.
    Also, regular degulars are going to say “oh I liked the TV show more” for whatever reason they’d like to come up with.
    I think it is beyond Humans to alter the Bible for the sake of “entertainment”. in doing so, one would be saying that they know better than God on how to represent Christianity.

    People that don’t like and criticize The Chosen are like the Pharisees during the actual time of Jesus. They just don’t want it to interfere with their beliefs and how they interpreted the Bible and/or take away from what they have been preaching to people. Or they are trying to profit off of their supposed disagreement with the show. In reality, The Chosen has brought millions of people closer to God and may have brought people to the word of God for the first time. In addition, you can read different versions of the Bible and get different interpretations. Lastly, as many have said including Dallas Jenkins, The Chosen is entertainment and you can read the Bible if you want the entire biblical version.

To see this depiction of Jesus' life is amazing and captivating and we get immersed in the narrative, the dialogue, all that serves to make it run smoothly. We are the richer for having this wonderful show come to us and stoke the fires in our hearts with love for Jesus and the rest of his group!! I knew James didn't bring a bucket and that the blind man was supposed to go to the pool of Siloam in Jerusalem to wash. I allowed that the writers changed it up as a catalyst for their show for whatever reasons they had. To be sure, the writers knew the Biblical location of this event and changed it for reasons they would likely explain. Everyone should allow for poetic license. The season is good, but it's like 10% accurate. I don't remember ever hearing about a sassy, wealthy black woman following Jesus... They do that with literally every new series, they add a black person every so many scenes. I normally don't care, but this is the life of Jesus, it should be as accurate as possible, but it's not. I have to go back and reread my Bible just to make sure the show doesn't alter my memory of the scriptures. Like when they were all getting hit with rocks and Jesus says "I am God!" That never happened, or at least I've never read that. He did however say "If you've seen me, you've seen my father. My father and I are one". When they make something that's supposed to be Biblically accurate, but change parts to pander to a specific race, I have a big problem with that.

  • @thucyrus6512
    @thucyrus6512 3 месяца назад

    I actually had a huge revelation while reading this scripture for the first time a few months back. I always thought it was strange that Jesus spit on the ground and stuck mud in a man's eyes to heal him when he had healed several people from death with just a word. However, when I read it in the NASB, something jumped out at me. If you read it in the King James version, you'll notice that in both versions they don't use the word "mud". They, instead, use the word "clay".
    If you know your bible imagery, clay is almost always used to describe "us" in conjunction with the "potter" which is God. Now, if you look back to John 4:34 in the King James, something starts to become clear. "Jesus sayeth unto them, My meat is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work." Now reread John 9:3 at minute 5 of this video, Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him." Remember, the man was BORN blind. He had NEVER seen. To put it another way, he was "unfinished".
    Jesus said he was here to finish the work of "him who sent me." That's his father. His father is "the potter". Now, if we are the clay, and this man is unfinished then Jesus needs clay to "finish" him. The gospel is full of blind men Jesus healed with just a word, but only one he healed with clay. The one who had NEVER seen. "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which means Sent)." Jesus was finishing the work of "him who SENT me." God just revealed that last part to me as I was writing this!
