It's okay. We got to see the bike. We didn't need to see Zach pedaling it. He was able to provide his review. Yeah, that bike is way cool! I give it 100 Fixie Points.
Best fucking display of why we ride I've seen in a long time. Enjoy mexico zach, if you need anything while you are out there please reach out. I'm not out there but have family that would be happy to help in any way shape or form.
Hey Zach, I wanted to give you props for going on this ride and showing people the resilience of riders/cyclists in 3rd world countries and what they go through to ride. And you hung in there like a legend, awesome stuff man
I'm from California but started getting into cycling while living in Mexico City, and the Teotihuacan ride is considered a "beginner" ride here looooooooooooooooooooI. It definitely is.... different. I loveeeeee the phantom highway.
Last night I was checking out biking stuff like I like to do, when I saw a story about a plywood mountain bike and then my brain said. "I wonder if Zach's ever tried a bamboo fixed gear, gee if he could get his hands on a CNC machine, a plywood fixed gear would be cool." Really enjoying the videos from Mexico!
One of your best videos, hands down. Got me so pumped to ride. And a long group ride isn't complete without a shockingly fit, super chill older (and often latino) dude.
I really love the way you talk about cycling on this channel. I don't ride fixed (at least yet) but you make me feel welcomed and get me excited about riding regardless. Keep it up!
I am not a fixie rider, but love watching all your videos. This one has become my absolute favorite. The bike you are riding in this video, what is the total cost of it?
*1 year ago*, a bit late, but it's a wabi classic and today it's worth 995 USD. a bit more if you were to get a custom color(+250 USD). a bit more if you were to get the same tires(+45 USD separate).
I know that it's counter intuitive to you as a you tuber but I appreciate you were more present in your adventures and just told us about it didn't spend all your time filming. However, I think we would've all loved to see the trip. Lol
i am loving your videos in general, but specially to this one i can relate very well. i tought myself riding a motorcycle in CDMX, such experiences lets you re-evaluate some major aspect of how to look at everything.
Thank you for posting. This is one of your best videos yet. You are speaking English on camera, but I expect you know enough Spanish to make yourself understood to your new friends. I had many Mexican-American friends when I was in school in southern California. They really impressed me with their dedication to their families. This is not something that often gets discussed in the United States. Mexican families are strong. They support each other all through life. There will often be multiple generations in the same house. When I see WASP politicians speak about family values, my reaction is that they know nothing. In the United States, we see the sacrifices Mexican immigrants are willing to make. They work long hours at back-breaking jobs just to make a little money to send to their families. We should admire them rather than demonize them. I get the sense that the Suerte-o-Muerte crew adopted you into their family. Okay, I'll get off my soap box now. Thanks again for the video.
@Bebo I beg to differ. If some of the houses in Mexican-American neighborhoods look rundown, poverty is likely a factor. Many Mexican-Americans are working in low-paying jobs in the service industry, agriculture, or construction. Having money makes a big difference in being able to maintain a home or rent a nice place. In the town where I lived during my grade school years, San Bernardino, California, there was a very strong Mexican-American community that celebrated their culture with a Ballet Folklorico organization and a big Cinco de Mayo celebration. I haven't been to Mexico City since I was a teenager, but the photos and videos I see really impress me. Zach's video shows a city that is vibrant and clean. I have been following the development of the metro system in Mexico City. It is now the second longest metro system in the Americas after New York City, and it has the highest ridership. Of course, Mexico has problems with drug gangs and poverty, but the country has made massive strides in the last few decades.
@Bebo I have known a few non-Hispanic White men who have married Hispanic ladies. They all tell similar stories. When you marry a Hispanic girl, you marry her family.
Great story. A fixed gear bike is the best form of transportation for a human being. But I respect all kind of cyclists, and I always wave when I see them on the road, which is rare in my area. Being outside and smelling and inhaling air is what it's all about. Bicycle - connecting people.
Zach, I was wondering about get some new cranks but cheap ones aren’t gonna cut it. But I don’t know if I want to spend 300 for some either. I know you recommended some for about 80 dollars but I was wondering about some that are around 120 to 200 range cranksets.
😂😂😂. I smoke cigarettes and ride. Don't ask. I have no answer. I tend to hide the smoke as I'm passing walkers and other riders because who the hell does that ??? Lol....
Where I live, we have a group of riders composed of fixie, single speed, gravel and road bikes riding together every week, nobody cares what type of bike you ride.
You wear black jeans cycling? I don't understand. When you're in a foreign area it pays to look carefully at maps so you aren't in the situation you were in: Getting whizzed by semis. That's suicidal. Especially in Mexico. Especially in Mexico City. Almost always you can find parallel routes. No they won't be as straight but you'll be more or less safe. And can ride with way more peace of mind and will see more of the terrain instead of just focusing on survival on the highway. There are few things that make us feel more vulnerable then getting blasted by a large truck and feeling the vacuum effect as it passes by. Mexico doesn't see a lot of bikes so they aren't used to giving them space. To them you're a motorcycle, an irritatingly slow motorcycle that is holding up traffic or awkwardly hogging the shoulder. Not sure why cycling never really caught on in Mexico. Its way more popular in Colombia. I love the idea of travelling with a bike. You have it down to an art form. Its fantastic. Hit the ground running, as they say. The hassle is travelling within the country on buses and trains with your bike. Its far better to visit just one general location with your bike. Otherwise you have to haul your bike box around with you.
Ohhhh Man!
Sorry, realy sorry abour the thing "over pushing the Red Button" I had done my best but... 😂😂😂
Was a really pleasure ride with you, Zach.
Cool bike fella
@@derman3658 thanks a lot.

Nothing beats being on a bike. There’s no other feeling of being free. Ride safe!
It’s so nice to see random people having a good time together because of a shared love!
Hey Zach, I wanted to give you props for going on this ride and showing people the resilience of riders/cyclists in 3rd world countries and what they go through to ride. And you hung in there like a legend, awesome stuff man
Damn thats gotta be a real fixed gear fam - people of different ages and inclusive of roadies, its groups like that I'd love to ride with!
I'm from California but started getting into cycling while living in Mexico City, and the Teotihuacan ride is considered a "beginner" ride here looooooooooooooooooooI. It definitely is.... different. I loveeeeee the phantom highway.
Yeah, that’s the way it is in Mexico!
Those roads and streets are the ones that many people ride (included me) daily.
Really stoked!
Since you've tried Mexico City, try visiting the Philippines. You'll love it as well!

I did this same trip by bus...Riding that highway up to Teotihuacan is a seriously ballsy move. So cool to watch you all press through the sketch
Well done. Been watching you for years and riding track bikes for 30 years and that was the most inspirational video I’ve seen in a while.

When did dwayne johnson take over this channel?
Riding in less oxygen, pollution, freeway shoulders... sounds reasonably dangerous!

You should do a video of how to pack your bycicle to travel 😌

this guy is so unlucky he is one of the most viewed fixed gear creator yet noone subscribes to him ahhshhahaha
Great video and you said some good things. But dang, in all the riding selfies you just look sooo depressed and miserable.
