Always good to hear Leonie talk about her brother Joe Orton! And her superb memoir is a fascinating - even essential - read for fans of his plays.

What the Butler saw is wicked. You site there chuckling and think, I shouldn't be laughing at this...

I wish Leonie Orton would realise - and the diaries, published in 1989, showed it clearly - that her brother was a paedophile, and no matter how good his plays were (debatable - I don't like them at all) that being a good playwright is no excuse, no excuse at all - I don't think she gets it at all.
Her brother is a Jimmy Savile - alright, we regret and loathe the fact his head was staved in - but if Jimmy Savile had had his head staved in before he committed more crimes - and Orton was 34 and would have gone on to offend in Tangier again and again and again and again - how can you defend this stuff?
