I took piano lessons for 15 years. I remember almost NONE of the songs I learned, except this one. I LOVED this piece. Playing it made me feel like an official pianist.

while technically very accurate and evenly played, I don't prefer this straight and brisk interpretation of this piece. the speed and lack of building dynamics obscures much of the hidden beauty of this piece, in my opinion. I find varying the tempo and dynamics, starting out slowly and softly with even some subtle rubato simulating distant thunder dissipating, then building steadily into the climax creates the sensation of a far off storm approaching, entering the storm in the climax, and then bringing out the peaceful euphoric feeling immediately following passing through the storm by backing off somewhat abruptly towards the end of the piece. it may not be what you need to pass your test, but try it with this in your mind and more freedom in your interpretation and you will find it creates a somewhat different and beautiful story for the piece. but that is the beauty of art and music, there is no one perfect painting or musical interpretation :)

A lot of people say they add a lot of rubato, but for some reason I have a very even and quick interpretation of the piece (with little rubato). I prefer using a lot of dynamics (more than in the video) to represent the stormy character of the piece, but that's simply my interpretation

I am playing this piece for grade 5. Very well played, Sir. If I could make one slight suggestion, it would be to vary the dynamics a bit more, really exaggerate them on the fortissimo parts. But, apart from that, it was a very strong interpretation of the piece.

Lydia Lott No the tempo is SUGGESTED to be this sort of speed but for ease of the pianist, you can play it at almost any speed, as long as it doesn't really interfere with the piece, I would suggest no lower than 100bpm (this is about 126)

memorize all your pieces as you learn them, once you have mastered them in practice, perform them at least 12 times for an audience before your test or performance (works for public speaking too). after memorizing facts (usually at least 3 to 5 passes through material) quiz out loud with a friend on the 2 to 3 days leading up to the test to check your depth of knowledge and recall of material. this will deepen your knowledge, show you what you need to study harder, and give you great confidence for your test. confidence comes from adequate preparation. everyone has a slightly different best learning style, but this is the basic strategy i used that helped me be very successful during my 12 years of study after high school... hope it helps you.
