Spruce Knob is beautiful! I know, I'm a West Virginian. I'm glad you visited our beautiful state; the mountains here are a little different than the ones in Colorado though!
That's a beautiful part of the state. BTW, the reason there is no cell service in that area is not because it is rural, it is because its within the National Radio Quiet Zone. The federal government set aside an area to be completely free of radio interference for the Byrd radio telescope. No cell phones, no radio, no tv signals, etc. If you are ever in that area again, go see the Byrd observatory, it is quite a thing.
West Virginia is called the the northern most southern state and the southern most northern state because it was a border state for a long time in the civil war before joining the North. So it is referring to it's location and more specifically the civil war. Country Roads took you home to almost heaven, West Virginia. Thanks for the visit and the kind words about our Wild and Wonderful state!
+Wyatt Snyder Very close. But WV Is the Northern most Southern State, Southern most Northern State, the Western most Eastern State, and Eastern most Western State because: 1. Its not considered Southern because it fought with the North in the Civil War. 2. It isn't considered North because it is South of the Mason Dixon line. 3. It isn't considered Eastern because it isn't a coastal state and 4. it isn't considered Western (or even mid western) because it is East of the Mississippi and does not border it.
Hello from St.Petersburg, Russia. You, guys, must be very happy to have such a beatiful envinreonment in America. I love rocks and rivers very much too, but the closest hill is 500km far from my city, situated in Karelia, the Vottovaara hill. There are no roads, 20 km of taiga from the hill to the closest railway stantion and a village.
looks like you came up from the seneca rocks side and its just as nice coming from the harman side a quaint little town on the way up plus you get to see the spruce knob lake has anyone found your belt buckle yet ? spruce knob seneca rocks area is where i go to get relax time such a slow relaxed pace around there
I enjoy this series. Kudos. Question. Knowing what you know about the places, the roads and cars/trucks, what vehicle is best suited for this kind of adventure?
Been fishing that area every March/April for the last 20 years. We make the trip to the top every year. Never gets old! Beautiful country!
Glad to see you guys enjoyed visiting the beautiful West Virginian hills. I love it here!
Thanks for the praise and kind words about the Mountain State! Im glad you enjoyed your time here. Come back anytime!

The look on Nathan's face when he was told it's a quarter mile walk. What, that takes only about 4-5 minutes? Priceless :)
I had totally forgotten that I've been there about 23 years ago. Thanks for the tour! Country Roads.. Take me home.
I'm glad that you enjoyed coming to my home state. Hope to have you back again!

Nice. That is true wilderness!
You guys should have stopped in Marietta, OH. I've been to Spruce Knob, but its been a while. The pine trees grow funny up there.
You didn't show or mention the beautiful trail around the top with it's display of trees, bushes, flowers, and rock formations.
Just FYI John denver did not write Country Roads. It was written by bill and taffy danoff

Nice sticker application!
What did you do in Iowa?
how many miles in the jeep and any problems?
Nearly 28,500 miles on the Jeep. No problems except for that one issue with the disconnecting anti-roll bar.
+The Fast Lane Car It feels so weird seeing an auto journalist going somewhere I go frequently.
Can a C6 corvette be driven up to the lookout tower? I plan on driving up there in a few days
+Geno E yes you can. they paved all the way to the top of the mountain not too long ago.
+DGETHIS01 the walk to the tower is about 900 feet
