I was excited when a version of the translation actually got released recently, having lost track of this project a few years ago. It's disappointing that it was such an early build, and I can understand why, in their frustration at the apparent lack of progress, eadmaster thought putting it out there was a good idea... but this video shows what fantastic work has been going on behind the scenes. Eager as I am to play this game in English, having enjoyed it well enough despite the language barrier in the existing Saturn release, I absolutely want to see the translation done justice. Upsetting as it is to see that you've essentially been forced into presenting this update, I'm thrilled to see it, and so very glad that you're carrying on. Amazing work all round - thank you!
Wait and see what improvements EAD does to his next updated patch. That initial release was just a proof-of-concept. It proved he got the old github to function and can now inject English text into the game and move forward from there.

Thank you for the amazing work and to being willing to show an update. Fans will do whatever they can to make the game playable in some form, even if it means being rude and offering a sub-par experience, especially if they have no expectation of it being completed by someone else. Your updated version really demonstrates much greater refinement, I look forward to its completion.

I see ya'll are getting flak from people that don't recognize what you're doing for free would be a full-time paid position for an official localization. I hope you continue work on the project, but I respect the effort you put in either way - I sure as heck couldn't have gotten it this far.

"With this video, we aim to demonstrate our progress and show people that ours will be the translation worth playing. No, we aren't releasing a beta now, and no, we can't make promises about when we'll finish." Didn't it already take like 10 years? People aren't going to wait another 5-10 years, or whatever undefined period of time it will take, on the vague that idea that this will be "the translation worth playing". Even if that is completely true it doesn't matter if no one can actually play it. What you have is functionally equivalent to nothing from the perspective of someone that doesn't know Japanese and wants to play the game in English. I'll admit I've done the same. I translated 2/3 of a light novel and then never finished it. If someone else showed up and starting translating it and I said "actually I got the next chapter done back in 2018 I just never released and I can't make any promises on when I will it but trust me it's boss" I'd get mocked and rightly so.
Fully agreed. CyberWarriorX's thread about translating this game was opened in 2012, he claimed it was a few months away in 2019 and insisted it was not dead in 2022. But the thread got locked in 2023 because even the admins there thought it was dead, so it's been over 12 years with nothing. He could have contacted the admins at anytime to re-open the thread and say it's not dead, he could have posted at anytime in the last several years that it's not dead, but he did not. He was basically a ghost until someone ELSE took his publicly posted work that was under the GPL2 license and actually released something with it, and only in response eadmaster stealing his thunder did he post this video... where he STILL claims there are no plans to release it anytime soon. Are we supposed to wait another 12 years? Yes, this translation is far better than the current beta version that eadmaster released, but what good is a better translation if there are still no plans whatsoever to release it in any timeframe? Are we just supposed to wait until 2050 with this game having been called "dibs" 12 years ago until Cyber and Sam release it, IF they ever release it? Currently the fact of the matter is that we have a beta unfinished translation that is playable, and is being worked on by different people, and a much better made and further along translation made by the original people... which zero release plans in sight if ever. Most people are likely going to go for the playable one than a better one that might never materialize in their lifetime.

I remember all those early translations and romhacks, and I also remember that even back then with far less information and more rudimentary tools it generally did not take this long to make a fan translation. 12 years is absurd, especially for a game that's not a 100 hour long text-heavy RPG or something. Is it a lot of work? Usually, yes. Is it 12 years of work? For a game that isn't even that text heavy? No, it's not. But even if it did take that long, just an occasional "Hey, still working on it, sorry it's been so long" post every 6-12 months is not too much to ask, we were flat out ghosted for years until ead forced their hand, where even he believed the project was dead. Even the admins at RHDN thought it was dead and locked the original thread CyberWarriorX had started for this game's translation.
Perhaps you're not getting it. People have waited so long for this, they are willing to play through a poor translation than to wait any longer for you.
I urge you to reconsider on releasing a beta. Surely, that's better than having people play through slop?
On the plus side, people can help report issues.
You are entitled
@@neetlukako Waiting 11 1/2 years is entitled?
@@neetlukako People toss that word around so much these days that it has lost all meaning.
@@FantomP.Were you waiting 11/12 years? Have you been at the edge of your seat waiting for this translation to come out or were you being normal and playing other games?
@@neetlukako I was waiting since it was announced back in late-February 2013. In that time waiting, I never seen a real video of their patch working, I was aware they did indeed translate the game script, but yet nothing proving they really could inject it into the game except a screenshot or two, its only until this video 11 1/2 years later that they finally proved it.
