I have 75 plus miles in the Flash 2. The geometry for that and the Pro 2 also work so well for me. My only hang up on flash 2 is the weight . I use it for daily and steasy runs but rarely for workouts
Recovery Run Shoe: Brooks Glycerin Max (didn't have Puma Magmax in stock, have since tried it, and may replace Glycerin once worn out) Daily trainer: Asics Novablast Speed workout, races up to 10K: Brooks Hyperion Max 2 Long run, long races (half) marathon: Asics Superblast 2
I like the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 I land and then feel the heel push me off. I mainly use it for a daily trainer and EZ miles. Surprise shoe of the year for me.
After dealing with injuries in '24 I switched to a midfoot strike which, along with PT, fixed me up so I would like to check out the Mizuno you mentioned.
Andrea, how did you find the change in your training regimen given your switch in focus to shorter races? Any tips for a beginning runner who's looking to dip his toes into 5ks/10ks this spring?
@@KOYKOYROYKOY1000 spoiler alert: The Wave Rebellion Pro 2 Max! 🤣 😞 😞 but I will train in mine a lot , just won’t race. I AM planning to race in the 2 this year 💪🏼
@@MidLifeRunner I have the rebellion pro 1 and 3 (not the 2 though). I run a 10k race (I am not fast, it was at 4 20/km pace-43.30 total time). I like the 3 a lot but I think I would have stability issues running a distance more than 21 km . I remember that you didnt like the alphafly 3 (the same problem I have at the heel...). So if you run the rebellion pro 3 I am interested to hear your opinion also since maybe we have similar running mechanics. I am interested to hear opinions from people like Andrea and you, who like these special design of shoes.
100% agree with the hyperion 2 .. I told @Fodrunner he had to get this (as the hyperion max 2 was a very different shoe as you said) . I do all my intervals and race paced work in it. For race shoe this spring I am going to give Brooks a chance with the hyperion 4 PB (simply because the geometry / width of the hyperion line work so well) .. Ran New York in the original Rebellion pro 1 .. (I was 195lbs at the time ) worked very well for me , but my hips were beaten up for a few days after.
So many great shoes launched this year, and as usual, we can't try them all . One of my highest regrets in 2024 was to not buy that beauty blue color Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 ! Do you know if Mizuno will launch a Rebellion Flash 3 in 2025 ? 😂 I only heard and already launched the Rebellion Pro 3 and Rebellion Low ( it seems less aggressive than Flash 2 ,but is too expensive to use as a training shoes). Happy New Year to everyone !
I wanted to love the Flash 2 but the midfoot is so absurdly narrow it was causing all sorts of issues 😂 I have loved Mizuno shoes for a while but a no from me, very glad it worked for you, Andrea!
The midfoot definitely is on the narrower side. You might like Neo Zen, which has a well fitting sock like upper that has significantly more midfoot width. I’m finishing miles on that shoe this week - written review coming soon!
@ammyers56 that is wonderful news since my pair are currently on the way! Was a big fan of the Neo Vista so I'm even more excited for them to arrive, thank you for letting me know!
I will be curious to get your thoughts on Hyperion 3. It sounds like the stack will be close to Hyperion Max 2 but no plate. I'm wondering if it will be a good lightweight all-around daily trainer.
Is it ok to run in a brand new old shoe? I saw the saucony ride 14 for a good price. I remember running in them when i first started. I still have them as a walk around the city shoe, but the tread is completely gone. Is it safe to buy such an old shoe?
The way someone experiences a shoe depends on individual mechanics, pace, and runner weight, so my experience might not line up with everyone’s. Matt and I did an episode on many of the factors that go into why two people can have such different experiences in a shoe a few months ago.
5:08 You and FOD are the only ones I’ve seen who prefer Nova 5 over 4. Everyone else I’ve seen says they can’t run up tempo in the 5, like they could in the 4, because they find the 5 too soft. Interesting.
Wait, this is 2024, wasn’t this shoe (Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2) also your 2023 favorite? lol…I’m still running in this shoe after listening to your favorites in 2023…
Midfoot strikers unite! Came here for my running shoe shopping list - thanks Andrea.
Same ❤
Will be checking out the Wave Rebellion Flash & Brooks Hyperion 2

@@MidLifeRunner thank you for the input. Side note your channel is great also. I vibe with your humor.

The past two years, Andrea has just matched up perfectly with my running shoe preferences.
Recovery Run Shoe: Brooks Glycerin Max (didn't have Puma Magmax in stock, have since tried it, and may replace Glycerin once worn out)
Daily trainer: Asics Novablast
Speed workout, races up to 10K: Brooks Hyperion Max 2
Long run, long races (half) marathon: Asics Superblast 2
You never miss when it comes to speed shoes. Last Year Topo Cyclone 2 this year Brooks Hyperion 2 ❤
I like the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 I land and then feel the heel push me off. I mainly use it for a daily trainer and EZ miles.
Surprise shoe of the year for me.
Forefront striker here. Great to see shoes built for my run style
Yes, Puma MagMax ❤❤❤

After 5 miles on the treadmill I want to give up running for good. 😅 20 miles is amazing
Yep, the On Cloudboom Strike is great. Set a PR in that shoe.
Way to go!

Great question. We’ll talk about this in another video soon.
Thank you very mach for your useful info!
Would be interesting to hear your experience on rebellion pro 3.So whaiting for your next review!
Review coming in January

I'm a midfoot striker as well but I'm flat foot and need a good stability max cushion shoe. Do you have any ideas on which brands to look at
Anyone else only getting left channel audio on this video?

Everyone says that the Novablast 5 is “softer” than the version 4 and you feel the opposite? I don’t understand…
I haven’t put them on but the midsole of the NB5 felt like a marshmallow when I squished it in the sports store
The way someone experiences a shoe depends on individual mechanics, pace, and runner weight, so my experience might not line up with everyone’s. Matt and I did an episode on many of the factors that go into why two people can have such different experiences in a shoe a few months ago.
Have both and NB 5 for certain has a softer midsole than NB 4, not even a debate.
Def softer.....NB 4 makes it into a comfy Tempo shoe for me....

Novablast 4 this year and last year and 20 years from now.

Me too, but I couldn’t keep up for most of her training runs. 5 miles in 40-50 minutes is more my speed
