There is a cake show on Netflix called "nailed it" ...I think you will feel a lot better when you see laypeople attempt and fail at recreation of professional cake decorating. You'll realize how little skill the average person has and that you have nothing to worry about.
Why ? It's like it's the people fault if you have to spend a lot of time to get your job done. I mean those "store bought cake hacks" look nice and beautifull like a bakery cake even if we don't make the cake by ourselves (what actually we could do). It's a cheaper, faster and more accessible alternative for the people.
They're saying even the more 'basic' cakes from shops take time (and skill- go try making icing flowers and the edge by hand right now and see for yourself). The last one makes *some* sense (covering up a ding made in transit), but I don't blame decorators for being pissed. Especially in places where the custom cakes are the ones that pay their bills. These hacks are basically showing you how to take their hard work (the cake itself- a pretty cake is pointless if it's gross tasting) and get credit for it while also undercutting their wage.
