The Army really improved that course from my days. BLC was called PLDC(Primary Leadership Development Course) when I was in the Army and it was a requirement to be promoted to E-5 and later E-6. No essay writing thank goodness😀. I attended NCO Academy(PLDC) in 1987 in Germany. Congratulations on your graduation. Love the VLOG’s from this Army generation.
Just finished BLC class 02-24 #8 overall in my class with a 3.87 GPA, 580 ACFT, was a PSG for the final week, and won the Leadership board. Here are some tips for getting on commandants or even DHG 1. Take extra time at the end of the day to work on your essays. Theres 3 total but only 2 count for a grade. These will be the hardest part of BLC for most. I am not a strong writer but using the right tools and putting extra time into my writing got me above 90 for both of them. Use word editor and grammarly to make sure you use active voice in your writing. When you get your first ungraded essay back, check on the SGLs notes on what you got wrong so you dont lose easy points in the future. 2. Read the rubric for every assignment, it tells you exactly how to complete it and what they are grading for. For CIT i had the entire rubric written in my own words and checked off each item for my class. I got a 100% 3. For PRT we were spit into 2 groups, one group did HSD,MMD1 and 2. While the other group did the rest. Both groups do prep and recovery. Get with some of your classmates and cycle through it once each and I promise that you will get at least 90/100. The big thing that got people in my class was the verbiage between either change position/starting position/or ready stretch. Again look at the rubric and it will tell you exactly what it is asking for for that exercise. 4.For DNC, I struggled with the commands since no one does it at their unit. Same thing with PRT, get a group together, it can be the same people since everyone has to do the same things, and do a run through of it. 5.For public speaking, write down what you want to talk about for each slide onto a notecard that way you aren't constantly looking at the screen. Get a rep or two with the whole presentation to get your confidence up that way you dont look jacked up when you speak. Have a buddy tally all of your filler words while you talk that way you know how much you rely on them. 6. Dont stress about being student leadership, DHG is only weighed by GPA, but most likely there will be a tie for first so they will then go for who had a higher ACFT and who had better attributes and competencies. 7.Right place, right time, right uniform. The expression too many chiefs, not enough indians has never been more true than at BLC. The first few days are ok because every one is lost in the sauce and doesnt know what to do, but wait until a week or two and you'll start to see how desperate people get. You have so many people trying to get others counseled its insane. Keep your mouth shut and if you have something to say think twice about it. Its only 22 days so just suck it up and you'll do fine. Good luck to all future attendees and if you have any questions ill be happy to answer.
@@SR-mh3if the right answer is yes, you don’t have to know the creed at all before going. You’re going to say the creed a minimum of twice a day so by the end most people have it down. If you’re going for the leadership award then yes because you say it in front of everybody at graduation.
@@SR-mh3if depends on the commandant, some kick you out after 1 failed tape, mine let people fight the tape and get a retape a week later. Best answer I can tell you is to set yourself up for success by being under tape. Or better yet get an 80 in every event and you won’t even be taped.
This was by far the most Informative video on RUclips, I go to BLC next week and wanted a clear overview of what to expect. I’m glad I found this video.

I came in the Army from the Marines as well brother. Semper Fi! I have to pass the board first before I go to BLC. I would really love to make the Commandants list.
Excellent video, thank you for sharing. BLC sounds like it is a good place to assist in becoming a great leader. Congratulations on graduating at the top of your class, so proud of you!! Hard work pays off!!!! ARMY STRONG!

I had the second highest GPA in my BLC LC, and didn’t make the commandants list because my individual ratings from my instructors weren’t high enough. Keep in mind that I did my BLC in Kuwait during a deployment, and one of the guys who was selected for the list only had a 3.4 GPA because he hogged the mic during class.
