You cannot play sloppy and frantic for two periods against Tampa Bay and expect to win. Montreal lost the team effort, and that is the element they need along with a strategy for offensive plays deep in their opponents zone. Tampa Bay forwards try to maintain a triangle in the opponents zone, and Montreal needs to do the same to allow for play making. Often it's one man in the corner, another near the rear of the net, same side, and the other in the slot position. Another interesting thing I've been learning as I reconnect with hockey is that the unassuming shot is gaining popularity big time, like the goal scored by Kucherov. It's a simple matter of using your peripheral to mark your target. And don't postmark it. The element of surprise when you're dealing with the top teams and Tampa has this perfected. So get your game plan together in a hurry Montreal, I'm routing for ya. Battles have been won throughout history by the troops that were thought to be the underdogs.
I don't know why teams don't keep it simple like dump it out or in the corner when there's no play. They never support the puck or keep it simple when on offense like shoot look for tips or garbage goals from rebounds.

It is only game one and I know what Montreal did being down 0-1 to Vegas but man, Tampa is just a different kind of beast. They have the super star talent unlike any other team at forwards, the blue line and in net which is something Montreal has not encountered this post season. Lets see what happens in game 2, I think Montreal plays better but I feel like it is not going to be enough. This series just reminds me of the 2014 cup finals with LA and NY. Quick and Henrik were a push at net much like Price and Vasey but LA just like Tampa had the better forwards and blue liners. If Tampa wins game 2, I do not think this series will last 6 games.
I dont know why all of y'all are saying sweep. Last year Tampa lost 4-1 to Dallas in the first game of the finals. The Knights beat the Habs first game 4-1. Every cup winning team lost game one in the finals, in the last 4 years. I'm not saying Habs will win or Lightning, my point is that the series is far from over.

The Habs should be proud of what they've done, but they simply cannot hang with the Lightning. Bolts in five, if it even gets that far.
Tampa is simply a much better hockey team. The goalies are about even. At every other position, the Bolts have the advantage. There's a reason that the Habs went 24-32 this year - they're just not all that good.

Montreal ran into a buzz saw. The defending champs are playing like it, and looked so much faster and more poised last night. They were outmatched. A team that went 24-32 in the regular season (if you count the OT losses) reached the Stanley Cup Final. The Habs should be very proud of that. They turned it on at the right time, but I don't think they have the weapons to match up with Tampa's big men. Lightning in 4.

Never has there been such an uneven matchup for the Cup finals. The best team in the NHL vs a team that would have missed the playoffs by 25 points. Literally, a lottery team that was about to get blown up found themselves in the final. Unreal.

Definitely not the best play from the HABS. Price did all he could do and still made some great saves. We’ll see how they take this loss for the next game.
Montreal needs to step their game up. NY had to play fantastic(except for game 5) and they still lost. It’s going to take a lot to best Tampa. Something that would help is they need get their offense going immediately, maybe even score first. We were down 2 goals before Montreal actually started playing offense. That has to change! It’s going to be a tough series but Montreal have already shocked us this year in the playoffs. There’s no reason they can’t shock us again. Go Habs Go!

Vasilevskiy is good, mind you, but put him in the same position as Price and he wouldn't have lasted. Price had to go through a lot of bad teams in his career and he carried them anyway. In 2014, they could have won were it not for Kreider injuring Price. This year, he has a good team. Let's hope Montreal adjusts.

The Habs appeared to have been totally unprepared for this game. They've got to bottle up Tampa's offense or produce more goals themselves if they hope to win the Cup.
There’s a twofold problem with that: 1. Tampa has the second coming of Dominik Hasek in net, and 2. They have scoring threats on every line, including the blue line. Somebody’s going to get scoring chances
Tuff luck Habs. This is tb in its prime. At the peak of their greatness. By next playoff tb will run out of gas by the second round as the toll of these two runs catches up to them. Maybe Habs will draw then in division playoff and knock them off. Then tb ascends into a Pen type of world. Good enough to make the playoffs but never a threat to win another cup as that core ages past its prime.

Everyone is hyping how Price stole the previous series (which he absolutely did), but no one is mentioning that the Habs' only advantage in the prior series--goaltending--is gone. Vasilevskiy is equal to Price, or close enough that the distinction doesn't really matter. Price is getting more attention because he is the main reason the Habs even got this far, whereas Vasilevskiy has a bunch of other superstars who helped him get to the Finals, but that doesn't diminish how good Vasilevskiy is or has been. The Bolts have an all-world goalie and superstar skaters like Hedman, Kucherov, and Point, to name just a few. The Habs have an all-world goalie and nothing. Bolts in five. Maybe less.
Habs with a fantastic run in the playoffs, but this version of the Tampa Bay Lightning might be the best hockey team the NHL has seen in the last 5-10years. Tonight's effort was not enought, game#2 will have to be a lot more intense than this.

It is only game one and I know what Montreal did being down 0-1 to Vegas but man, Tampa is just a different kind of beast. They have the super star talent unlike any other team at forwards, the blue line and in net which is something Montreal has not encountered this post season. Lets see what happens in game 2, I think Montreal plays better but I feel like it is not going to be enough. This series just reminds me of the 2014 cup finals with LA and NY. Quick and Henrik were a push at net much like Price and Vasey but LA just like Tampa had the better forwards and blue liners. If Tampa wins game 2, I do not think this series will last 6 games.
I dont know why all of y'all are saying sweep. Last year Tampa lost 4-1 to Dallas in the first game of the finals. The Knights beat the Habs first game 4-1. Montreal ran into a buzz saw. The defending champs are playing like it, and looked so much faster and more poised last night. They were outmatched. A team that went 24-32 in the regular season (if you count the OT losses) reached the Stanley Cup Final. The Habs should be very proud of that. They turned it on at the right time, but I don't think they have the weapons to match up with Tampa's big men. Lightning in 4.
Kucherov is, imo, the most influential Bolt on Tampa Bay. I don't think they'd be nearly as good offensively without Kuch's help

Vasilevskiy is good, mind you, but put him in the same position as Price and he wouldn't have lasted. Price had to go through a lot of bad teams in his career and he carried them anyway. In 2014, they could have won were it not for Kreider injuring Price. This year, he has a good team. Let's hope Montreal adjusts.

@@thecaynuck4694 in 2016 Tampa was the only team who voted to get rid of the no cap rule... Montreal and every other team in the league voted to keep it. kinda poetic justice that the lightning get to reap the benefits of that decision.

Everyone is hyping how Price stole the previous series (which he absolutely did), but no one is mentioning that the Habs' only advantage in the prior series--goaltending--is gone. Vasilevskiy is equal to Price, or close enough that the distinction doesn't really matter.
Price is getting more attention because he is the main reason the Habs even got this far, whereas Vasilevskiy has a bunch of other superstars who helped him get to the Finals, but that doesn't diminish how good Vasilevskiy is or has been.
The Bolts have an all-world goalie and superstar skaters like Hedman, Kucherov, and Point, to name just a few. The Habs have an all-world goalie and nothing.

Habs with a fantastic run in the playoffs, but this version of the Tampa Bay Lightning might be the best hockey team the NHL has seen in the last 5-10years. Tonight's effort was not enought, game#2 will have to be a lot more intense than this.
