In 2019 i was attacked by a dog. He only bit me once in my face. It was so fast. I barely blinked. I got a HUGE wound in my face. I got 40 stitches. When I went to the emergency room, the doctor told me, I should consider myself very fortunate. He said the wounds he has seen mainly in children after dog attacks are devastating. I do believe dogs can cause this amount of damage. I love animals but I would NEVER leave my dogs around my children. Even the thought terrifies me.

The second thing that disturbed me though was the fact the neighbor testified that the dogs had already attacked on several occasions.Had the couple taken the threat to the people injured more seriously then maybe they would not have lost the little girl . There are people that go and adopt pitbulls and other large dogs statically shown to cause death at disproportionately high percentages. They take these dogs home to families with small children and defend their new dog and their decision with passion. Then one day something unpredictable sets the otherwise affectionate dog's instincts off and a child is maimed to death. I would rather subject my child to a small terrier or Chihuahua that has a greater likelihood of biting than to a pitbull or Rottweiler that is not likely to bite but has the potential to kill. In this case the dogs already proved that they were capable of attacking.

American Justice system needs to be held accountable, prosecutors disbarred and jailed, who did not or refused to show the actual pictures of the victim
The dogs tore her clothes off and she wasn't wandering around the forest, she was sitting outside her home waiting for her father to get home. Did you even watch this show?
She was playing in her huge yard, not wandering around a forest. She was naked because the weather was warm. She was still young enough where that wasn't necessarily odd, especially in a rural setting like that.
When I was 7 yo boy, In an evening time, I was riding my small bicycle alongside a beach in our town while I was enjoying the nice weather, all of sudden I noticed many (maybe 15 to 20) stray dogs are running toward me and chasing me, I tried to paddle harder and faster to get rid of them, but the problem was that my bicycle was on soft sand!!! and I didn't have enough speed, suddenly an idea crossed my mind that I use the wet sand line right beside the water to have more speed; It worked and I was lucky !!! that I’m alive today.
What a travesty. There is nothing that could be any worse than losing a daughter then falsely accused for the death then going to prison for it. The extent that some prosecutors go to try to win a case is astonishing, withholding evidence and lying. The prosecutors in this case should have been severely reprimanded.
Yes but this should have come in the form of guilt, not life in prison for murder. These parents had to not only bear the guilt of not being there to protect their child, but also be sent to prison and be looked at as "child murderers" but the general public. For example, if you take your kid to the beach and she is swimming with you and having a good time. You look away from her for just a moment and she is gone. Come to find out a wave crashed over her and knocked her unconscious and she drowned. Should the parents be charged with murder? Just like the police in this case concluded that the parents cut their daughter up and killed her, the police in the beach scenario could conclude you held your daughters head underwater and drowned her.
This is infuriating. I swear in cases of wrongful conviction and incarceration, the accused should be compensated MILLIONS. They can never get their life back, nor all the years lost. They should at least be comfortably set up to move forward. They are owed that much at the very LEAST.
This type of story makes my blood boil . It could happen to anyone...and does more often than people realize . Everyone involved in their conviction should be put in jail for five years . And thease people deserve monitary compensation for what was done to them ..In the millions of dollars . Even that would not make up for what they have suffered .
Loveless and Miller filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Rains County prosecutors Alwin Smith and Frank Long and Rains County Sheriff Richard Wilson in 1995. The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2001 for an undisclosed amount.
What planet she been living on innocent people are convicted on a regular. She should talk to the man who spent 40 yrs in prison for a crime he didn't commit.
Pretty scary what can take place from something soooo out of context !!! … talk about a cruel twist of fate for this truly “perfect” family !… destroyed by dogs and so called investigators …. Very disappointing ! … I know things happen but I feel sooo bad for him … He got royally screwed in the end … Not pushing blame on her but it’s too bad she didn’t have more loyalty toward her husband … He deserved that much … Although I suppose she didn’t think she was ever getting out … Honestly if it weren’t for her husband and ALL the work he did she may NOT have
Shame on the cops, detectives, prosecutors and judge. They all should bare some fault for this happening to these two. Losing a child then falsely punished for it is too much to bare. I don't understand how Debbie found someone else and left her husband that devoted his 5 years in prison on getting them free. If it wasn't for him doing that, she would still be in prison. A tragedy all the way around.
cause your mentality isnt the same. You are not the same person anymore. It affects who you are and how you treat people. I'm sure she is forever grateful for what he did. But all this bull that the unjust system put them through was to much for their love to bare.
I've watched every episode multiple times but this one always gets me the most upset. I can't imagine the anguish of a life sentence after losing your kid.
I love watching these true crime mysteries but after seeing so many times that law enforcement wrongly targets someone and ruins their reputation and in the worst case scenario, puts innocent people behind bars, I have to say that I would not talk to the police without an attorney present.
Prosecutors need to be held accountable when they withhold evidence and have tunnel vision just to win their case rather than doing truly what's right this isn't the only case and if you ask them to this day they'll say the justice system is fair of course it is from their point of view doing stuff like this they need to be compensated accountability is kryptonite to them💯💯💯💯
It's because of cases like this that there are automatic appeals process to a death penalty verdict. It also shows that you can't leave small children unsupervised around any animal even around dogs.
Some folks just can’t conceive that a dog would hurt a human. They will. I was attacked at seven years old, thankfully an adult intervened. I still love dogs and cats but realize they are animals and like humans, can do bad things.
@@nnvincent3 I've always had 2-3 dogs. This isn't the case for any multiple dog families I know. I'll trust the dog over the human ANY day. But at my house, it's never in question who the boss is. Not once.
What I question in this one is 1. WHY did the defense NOT go to the Judge when the DA and the prosecutor threaten them? I would think that kind of behavior would at the very least have been frowned upon by ANY decent judge and 2. OF COURSE she's not going to have the normal signs of a mauling at the autopsy. By that point those injuries would have been cleaned up by the medical people who had tried to save her life. What the defense should have done AS SOON as they were arrested was go straight to the HOSPITAL who tried to treat April's wounds and gotten any photos that had been taken before they ever did anything else. Right then and there they could prove that the dogs HAD in fact caused the injuries
A similar situation happened to one of my cousins. She had her kids taken away & even went to prison for supposedly abusing her kids. We knew that didn't happen because my aunt & 3 cousins were living in my parents house. If anything like that happened, we would have known about it. The case started with a doctor that changed his diagnosis 3 TIMES!!! They NEVER asked my parents, brothers or me what happened! We didn't get to tell the truth about what happened! We still live with the fallout from that bull s***!
For cases like this charges needs to follow any DA who willingly withholds evidence… dishonesty should be labeled as a crime when it effects other peoples lives. And the courts just lets it go… and this is why withholding evidence happens moreso than not! Some DA's only thrive off their successful prosecution rates and don't care how they get it. Wrong on so many levels!!!!!!!
My heart breaks for these people and their other daughter. What a dreadful investigation.People should be held to account for this. The experience they both had in prison would have been even worse for what they supposedly did to a child.Sadly this won't be the last time people get imprisoned for something they didn't do!
I hope the poor child that lost both her parents and went to foster care wasnt abused or molested. I hope she really was in good care. This is a tragedy and I hope the disgusting DA, Sherriff, and everyone involved in wrongly convicting this innocent couple have karma paid back to them 7 fold!!
Puncture wounds and scratches all over her……3 dogs……the girl even said, “the dogs did it”, and they STILL couldn’t figure it out, what a bunch of fools !
Anytime a prosecutor put somebody in prison that’s innocent and they go out of their way to prove they’re not, like hiding the evidence of the photographs. that prosecutor and the police involved should all get double the time in prison that the person they put in prison had to serve!
When a dog attacks a person in the presence of other dogs, one of two things might happen. 1) The other dogs will attack the aggressor dog or, 2) They will join the attack. On the other hand, one dog could do this amount of damage in less than a minute. I've seen a few unprovoked attacks between dogs. They are fast and vicious.
That’s crazy and the people who prosecuted should’ve been held accountable ,unbelievable. They have freedom but their lives are destroyed due to bad investigating smh sad case.
I'm not sure from this news but i hope the done this On May 2, 1994, the charges were dismissed. Loveless and Miller filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Rains County prosecutors Alwin Smith and Frank Long and Rains County Sheriff Richard Wilson in 1995. The guy said the amount of money I spent on stamps I could of had a good meal outta that. Then he laughs at his own joke with a silly smile. no way In hell did that guy do anything to that girl.
Usually a prosecutor attorney and head of the police are interviewed and talks about the crime but this case we didn't see them ( the first trial) meaning they're ashamed.
21:31 I like the fact that they pointed out that both the incarceration and the exoneration were both science-based. It's quite obvious that being science-based is not at all the same thing as being correct.
Wow. These cops are unbelievably arrogant, lazy and just plain stupid. I hope this couple sue the pants off them. 😡 And hopefully those cops are long gone. Shocking behaviour.
As a young child I recall my mother and grandmother talking about this. I asked why they didn't believe that a dingo had taken Azaria and they were adamant it wasn't possible. How very wrong everyone was. Utterly devastated the Chamberlain family.
So much incompetence on display here. How could they have missed the fact that the photos were taken after the wound was cleaned? And why would the police have even thought they'd kill their daughter by leaving such a strange oval-shaped wound on the leg? They made so many mistakes here.
You would think the couple would become stronger in trying times. But she “found someone else while seeking help.” Man I feel the pain in John and hope he finds a good woman in his search for healing.
April's wounds totally look like an animal attack, from the photos. Some dogs have extremely high prey drive. My dog is a cat killer, for example. No cat is safe in our backyard, and I do not have him out front, off leash. He's too fast. It sounds like April died during a re-election year, and the sheriff was trying to look tough on crime. There's no way he would have admitted mistaking dog bites for human-inflicted wounds.
So I will disagree with the parents not at least being partly responsible. Letting dogs just run loose in a pack when there are also small children wandering around unattended is negligent. Dogs will do things in a pack setting that they would never do alone in the home. Im sure they saw that 4 year old girl as prey because she was out by herself without her pack of people to protect her. Also kids sometimes tease and torment dogs to the point where the dog thinks it has to defend itself because that parents (pack leaders) aren’t doing anything to stop it. I had dogs years ago, a little rat terrier and a chihuahua mix that killed a duck and a chicken (two separate occasions) because they were unattended and cornered and even two dogs together was enough to act like a pack. The rat terrier probably was the instigator because he always had a high prey drive an I think the chihuahua just went along with it. They were both super sweet with us and never bit anyone, but those instincts were there even in small dogs. People just can’t trust that their dog will never hurt their kid, be a better parent and monitor the kid to make sure it’s not tormenting the dog and don’t let your dogs run loose in a pack because they can become dangerous!
I disagree with ur opinion. They should not be left unsupervised but it's not the parents fault. It was a true tragic accident and many small children r around dogs and nun ever happens. Blaming that isn't just wrong downright disgusting I hate comments like these cuz the parents deserve compassion

This continues to be the quality of work done by the American justices system
That's too complimentary, imo.
The Judge, the Jury and the Lawyers should pay compensation out of their own pockets for 5 years of lost life, lost respect, lost opportunities and an extra 25,000,000,000,000,0000,0000,000 dollars in punitive damages.
Is that 25 quadrillion?
🌈$Two Septillion Five Hundred Sextillion… every 3 zeros Move the “-illions count” up…
I.e. billion trillion quadrillion…
The suggested amount was with 23 zeros and had commas in the wrong places…
$25 Quadrillion is only…
$25,000,000,000,000,000
John is a good strong man. I hope he found a good woman, outside of Debbie. I don’t blame the original defense attorney. He did his best, but the court system handcuffed his defense. The sheriff and the investigators are to blame for this debacle.
Ikr, how can anyone say "Inadequate Defense?" Dude literally tried to get his own forensic expert to investigate and they don't give him the funds? So you have to assume they only used the prosecution's claims? The same prosecutor that he tried to subpoena the witnesses he had and was for some reason denied? Is that even legal?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Feel like that's 100% an ambush trial not knowing who the prosecution is going to call to the stand!
That poor girl. It just goes to show, people need to watch their kids closely. Dog owners also need to put their canines (K-9) in kennels, unless their present. 🐕 🐶 This is so heartbreaking.💔💔💔💔💔💔
It’s amazing how many innocent people are in prison
Just because the justice system is so broken!
Starting with stupid LE.
💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
THAT'S WHY THE DEATH PENALTY IS WRONG. IMAGINE KILLING AN INNOCENT PERSON?
Actual police photo's and videos and not much of dramatization. This is what I call true crime documentary. As for Sir Peter Thomas, he did a great job and no one will replace him. May his soul rest in peace.🙏
He was knighted? An American?

I hate that they lost each other because of this. They seemed like such a great little family. Mat they find peace in their freedom her with her daughter and he with his son.
American Justice system needs to be held accountable, prosecutors disbarred and jailed, who did not or refused to show the actual pictures of the victim
I feel sorry for the parents.
Am i the only one that thinks no one should be letting a 4 year old wander in the forest alone and unclothed????
FINALLY someone SAID IT!!
She wasn't unclothed. The dogs tore her clothes.
The dogs tore her clothes off and she wasn't wandering around the forest, she was sitting outside her home waiting for her father to get home. Did you even watch this show?
Yea it's weird. So sorry for them though.
That's the problem with stray dogs vs wolves. They are NOT afraid of humans.
Me too escaped so many dogs chasing me either peddaling fast or stand still
Me too
I’m glad you are OK!
This is the ugly face of law enforcement and prosecution in this country, somehow, they always see foul play. SICK.
What a travesty. There is nothing that could be any worse than losing a daughter then falsely accused for the death then going to prison for it. The extent that some prosecutors go to try to win a case is astonishing, withholding evidence and lying. The prosecutors in this case should have been severely reprimanded.
Leaving a child unsupervised with aggressive dogs they still bear the responsibility for the childs death.
I was waiting to hear that they sued the police and the city for compensations $10 million
They should have
Loveless and Miller filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Rains County prosecutors Alwin Smith and Frank Long and Rains County Sheriff Richard Wilson in 1995. The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2001 for an undisclosed amount.
@@stfuplsok Thanks for letting us know 👊🏾🙌🏾
they should get 100 million
@@stfuplsok thanks for the info I was getting even more pissed.
This whole case is a nightmare. And an eyeopener. Great episode.
It's very sad story unbelievable .lost their child + suffer 5 years in prison 😢 that pain for ever
What planet she been living on innocent people are convicted on a regular. She should talk to the man who spent 40 yrs in prison for a crime he didn't commit.
Just imagine how many people are wrongfully in jail
Oh this was a sad one. I hope they have found peace 🙏
Pretty scary what can take place from something soooo out of context !!! … talk about a cruel twist of fate for this truly “perfect” family !… destroyed by dogs and so called investigators …. Very disappointing ! … I know things happen but I feel sooo bad for him … He got royally screwed in the end … Not pushing blame on her but it’s too bad she didn’t have more loyalty toward her husband … He deserved that much … Although I suppose she didn’t think she was ever getting out … Honestly if it weren’t for her husband and ALL the work he did she may NOT have
The most tragic forensic files episode. 😭
It's sad but it's none of our business how this happened.
cause your mentality isnt the same. You are not the same person anymore. It affects who you are and how you treat people. I'm sure she is forever grateful for what he did. But all this bull that the unjust system put them through was to much for their love to bare.
It’s very sad, but the loss of a child even from illness can break up a marriage.
This could have stopped at the medical examiner actually doing their job.
Wow. Gross incompetence on behalf of the medical examiner. To not even consider that she had been in a surgery when examining the wound. Ridiculous
Prosecutors need to be held accountable when they withhold evidence and have tunnel vision just to win their case rather than doing truly what's right this isn't the only case and if you ask them to this day they'll say the justice system is fair of course it is from their point of view doing stuff like this they need to be compensated accountability is kryptonite to them💯💯💯💯
I hope they sued and got a lot of money
Those years stolen from them needs to be compensated
They did & got a landmark settlement.
It's because of cases like this that there are automatic appeals process to a death penalty verdict. It also shows that you can't leave small children unsupervised around any animal even around dogs.
One of the saddest most infuriating episodes of this show man
They Were stupid and incompetent why the didn't look around for the dogs with blood on their bodies? right away. Am sure the dogs were not far.
hope that first coroner got fired he should have known
The only time lie detector results are " Not " admissable is when the person passes it. .... LMFAO
They were negligent of supervising the daughter around a pack of dogs
Horrific injuries on that little body
It may have been a wolf that attacked her, and the dogs scarred it off. She was only 4 so she might have thought it was just a big dog...
Some folks just can’t conceive that a dog would hurt a human. They will. I was attacked at seven years old, thankfully an adult intervened. I still love dogs and cats but realize they are animals and like humans, can do bad things.
Particularly when there is more than one dog, they have become a pack and are much more aggressive.
This is why you should never let your kid with any animals.... animals are animals no matter how well it behaved and much training you gave.
as i look at my lil bearded dragon who couldnt do anything if she tried: Please dont kill me...😭😭
@SugarShane chill out it was a joke... holy shit-
A similar situation happened to one of my cousins.
I'm actually disappointed at this case. 5 years is crazy man i feel bad... That's an L for the forensic team.
This is the saddest episode of forensic files I've ever seen. Even the "happy ending" was sad😭 May they have mercy for all they went through
I hope the poor child that lost both her parents and went to foster care wasnt abused or molested. I hope she really was in good care. This is a tragedy and I hope the disgusting DA, Sherriff, and everyone involved in wrongly convicting this innocent couple have karma paid back to them 7 fold!!
What a horrible situation for the family, losing an innocent child and end up in the jail for no reason
And they chose to show some pictures and hid others. Sue them for every penny they got.
The sound of the slamming steel door is chilling.🥶
Puncture wounds and scratches all over her……3 dogs……the girl even said, “the dogs did it”, and they STILL couldn’t figure it out, what a bunch of fools !
This is the case that keeps me up at night.
Wow.
And the dogs seemed so friendly.
Maybe a different dog? Maybe those dogs were trying to drag her home?
Anytime a prosecutor put somebody in prison that’s innocent and they go out of their way to prove they’re not, like hiding the evidence of the photographs. that prosecutor and the police involved should all get double the time in prison that the person they put in prison had to serve!
Im still watching this, one of my all time favorites.
Sad part is it happens more than we want to believe.
I'm not sure from this news but i hope the done this
On May 2, 1994, the charges were dismissed. Loveless and Miller filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Rains County prosecutors Alwin Smith and Frank Long and Rains County Sheriff Richard Wilson in 1995. The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2001 for an undisclosed amount.
I feel bad for the parents but especially for the sister in foster care! She lost her family and her sister :(
Such a devastating case overall
The guy said the amount of money I spent on stamps I could of had a good meal outta that. Then he laughs at his own joke with a silly smile. no way In hell did that guy do anything to that girl.
Usually a prosecutor attorney and head of the police are interviewed and talks about the crime but this case we didn't see them ( the first trial) meaning they're ashamed.
Blatant incompetence, on the police force and coroner. They should have been SUED...
They were.
This is the one episode I can’t watch again, with how gory the pictures are and how two innocent people were imprisoned for an accident.
Look in the bible. Joseph was sent to prison for a crime he didn't do.
I know I'm old but this story brings to mind, "A dingo ate my baby!" Nobody believed Lindy either!
But she “found someone else while seeking help.” Man I feel the pain in John and hope he finds a good woman in his search for healing.
she found somebody while she was in prison? so was she unfaithful to her husband?
So shameful.
This is one story that should be a wake up call to all families dogs owners. Please do not fully trust your pets when alone with younger children..
When you realise you are listening to the case exactly on the 4th of January just many more years later.
This is infuriating! The complete lack of accountability and integrity of the detectives is unconscionable.
It is very interesting videos that matters for solving crimes. And Peter Thomas is best narrator.
People just can’t trust that their dog will never hurt their kid, be a better parent and monitor the kid to make sure it’s not tormenting the dog and don’t let your dogs run loose in a pack because they can become dangerous!
i agree, and in addition, one of the dogs belonged to the neighbor. i think that adds to the risk as well.
I disagree with ur opinion. They should not be left unsupervised but it's not the parents fault. It was a true tragic accident and many small children r around dogs and nun ever happens. Blaming that isn't just wrong downright disgusting I hate comments like these cuz the parents deserve compassion
That's so sad but it sure isn't surprising???I'm happy they were proving innocent.
Never leave your kid kids alone its that simple!!!
it's not for them.
That poor baby
God damm prosecutors should be in prison honestly! I hope they sued the s*** out of those prosecuting attorneys and the police department!
