57 was originally owned by Cook Cleland, LCDR, Navy. He was the winner of the 1947 and 1949 Thompson Trophy Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio. The plane was kept at his airport in Willoughby, Ohio after he returned to active duty in 1951. Korean War.
