My husband isn't educated. We have a good life. We love each other a lot. You missed out girl.
A big house, big bank account, and success, but no one to share with is an empty unaccomplished lonely life. Money cannot buy love. Life without love is meaningless. It is better to find a loving man who can warm your heart better than an educated man who is selfish and rich but brings you no joy.
As human we are selfish, we only want what we don't have. I think you could of lived life happy without no husband. There aren't much hmong people that goes all the way to their phd and takes the traditional route of finishing their degree first before marriage. Your thinking is very Americanized, yet you weren't able to connect with Caucasians. I think you were stuck in between hmong and American cultures. Hmong culture ideal of being happy is getting married and having kids and American culture is educational and solitary. I think you could of taken the opportunity to find yourself after your education and create a legacy. However, as a women we do want to be a mother at some point, that was where you lowered your standards and lost yourself. Sometimes, it's not about having a family but being happy within yourself or being a good leader for the community. Wish you all well, find happiness in other areas will do good to your heart.

WOW! What a GREAT STORY! I feel your sadness n regrets! It’s so touching and reality! As important as education can be for our future, we must not forget how important it is to also prepare for our sickness and health/old age days. Getting marry n Having kids is a plus n Kids do help out alittle but you have to give to receive! You can pop all the babies in the world but if you don’t put in the effort to train them well, they not gonna love u too!
It’s ALWAYS good to date as you get yourself educated!! You can do BOTH at the same time!! And you don’t have to date hmoob if you don’t have anything in common with them. I know many hmoob women your age married to other race n they also lived a happily ever after marriage! Don’t matter what race u date, it all depends on your attitude n personality, having a husband doesn’t guarantee a complete life either……life is what u make of it.
Not many Hmong ppl were educated during your era, but jump 10-20 yrs later, now the hmoob guys R actually not as intimidated by educated hmoob women bcuz they R highly educated themselves! You were just born alittle too soon. But don’t be sad, nothing is guaranteed in life.
Sad and sorry about your illness. That being said, it's too bad you didn't listen to your heart as well as your head way back when you actually had a guy who really loved you despite his lack of higher education. Higher education is nothing more than a path to a career in a certain field (and sometimes because a person just wants to expand their knowledge), nothing more and nothing less, and having it doesn't automatically make you a better person than others. Two people with different educational backgrounds can be happy together if they have what matters to a happy and healthy relationship: love, support for each, common interests, shared values, shared goals, etc. You could have had both love and higher education if you hadn't been so narrow minded in your goal setting. I'm sorry that you only ended up with half the life you wanted, but that's on you and the decisions YOU made (although the advice to continue your higher education was good, your late parents' advice was incomplete due to their own limited experiences/view on life because you could have done both concurrently). Hopefully your story will help others (those that are struggling with a similar dilemma) out there to find a balance between education/career and love.

Sometimes things happen a certain way for a reason. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Be thankful for your accomplishments too. Wishing you the best.
We as parents have to do better so that we work towards guiding our children to their full potential but not controlling their abilities to make good sound decisions on their own. We are not always going to be around and will need to teach our children, to the best of our abilities to be open and aware of the many options and paths they have ahead of them.
My heart goes to you. You were truly mislead and raised to believe that one priority is superior to another. When in fact, a well rounded way of life is best. Bad choices will happen, mistakes will happen. We don't know where we will be later in life but we all hope it peads to a life we can be fulfilled by.

Remember sister a degree doesn't make a person. Men doesn't like when a woman has a degree and looks down on them. Flashing your degree is a turn off. You must be humble even with a degree. Even if you marry someone without a degree, you must love and respect them. Shouldn't have listened to your parents.

Your parents already married so they’re trying to live their dreams thru you and you allowed them to deter you from your full happiness. You placed too much emphasis on a man to have a degree and you lost real human touch…you constantly put these men down cuz you think youre better cuz of a degree.
When you think about it, you actually accomplished nothing in life but only a "concieted" degree. Having a degree doesn't mean you should look down on others or think highly of yourself. You deserve to be alone.
No matter how good or bad your current situation is in life, it is not permanent.

But regardless Sister, used this time to live your life and travel and spend your money on yourself. Do not leave a single penny to your siblings or niece's or nephew's. Donate your money to good charity that can really use. There are treatments do not give up. Seek those and take care of yourself. You should've married outside of the Hmong people.
