Hi Dansky. Nice, well structured tutorial. But, what annoys me slightly that you are doing a lot of stuff "by eye". Maybe I am too used to CAD software. But is there a way in illustrator to make that line as a strict continuation of the original line at 4:50. And then the second line to be strictly parallel to the first line at 5:00. I tried something similar in illustrator and just simply couldn't find a way. It just amazed me that this kind of simple and obvious functionality (if you come from CAD background) of smart guides is not present in the leading vector illustration software.
After you have the shape in 3 sections from expanding, you can simply select the group > right click > ungroup. This will cut down on your need to cut and past in place (shortcuts: ctrl+x and ctrl+f). Also when you're using the path/pen tool, you can simply hit escape on the keyboard to deselect.
Gradients in Illustrator always vexed me, until today that is. Many thanks for the tutorial, I will most definitely be using these techniques in the future!
The best tutorial ever. You're a natural! I'm a beginner in Illustrator and your tutorial suits me beautifully! Thank you very much and already following you.I'm a dentist from Brazil and my hobbies is learning illustrator!
i really don't have a word to thank you for this tutorials i give u like before watching any video becouse you are a really unique in this world thank you god bless you bro
Mind blown on using the pathfinder tool. Gah-- that wouldve saved me a ton of work with my last logo getting the white to go away. Thank you for the amazing tutorials. Ive been learning so much!!
Very lit tutorial, took a while for me because I was adding a lot of tweaks of mine to it (which did not work out too well for me) but eventually I nailed it.
I also had problem with live paint bucket tool. Make sure that the curves you create using the pen tool are properly attached to the edges by clicking on the anchor points before using the deselect option. After that you will be able to see those shapes seperated in the outline view (ctrl + Y).
Maybe it's because it's older version of Illustrator (CS5), but Pathfinder/Unite is not working in Stylize/Round Corner Effect. I don't know. Solution: For the black triangle first do Make Compound Shape, then Expand
Great tutorial Dansky! Good music (not too loud and not to low - Just perfect). Beside your skills, your voiceover is the best I heard on similar tutorials. Not sure who gave it a thumb down and not sure why. Again, Fantastic Tut! Your videos are very helpfulI just subscribed!
I jus learned bout you today in 2020, 😂but your voice made me watch the whole thing. Great tut I have learned something I have wondered how to do. Thanks man
Really like your explanations of why we do certain things. I know not everyone has this feature, but I would like to see you explain the cs6 gradient editor bar. I do appreciate that you are showing us the older ways of doing gradients. Simpler is often better. I use CS6 and understand that people want to use older versions.
Perhaps CC has updated some of its tools since this video was made. Using the "Unite" Function gave me totally different results despite following the video step by step beforehand. I needed to use the "Exclude" pathfinder tool to achieve the same effect. Perhaps it is worth updating or something seeing as this is among the first videos that are shown when you search "Adobe Illustrator Tutorial". Edit: Several things in this video are outdated
I'm doing this step for step, yet I'm having an issue when I go to "Unite" at the beginning. The Triangle transforms into a another shape. Why is this? I need help.
how to do you turn on the little dots at anchor points? they're like additional guides or something - for instance look at 6:45, when the black triangle is created - there are little dot/guides at each point. i looked in smart guide preferences but can't seem to figure out how to get those guides. thanks!
A much better way making the triangel is 1: Use the polygons tool and make a triangle. 2: chose stroke - make it as thick as you want it. 3: then chose rounded corners in the stroke palett. 4: then object > expand. You now get a perfect triangel with a consistent stroke with.
LOVED THIS TUTORIAL!! ahhh i started messing around in illustrator and these types of tutorials teach me how to use illustrator lol thanks Dansky! i'm subscribing now lol
Finally, a teacher that speaks with passion, the right tone, and speed over the steps by step instructions. Thank you so much.
I know this isn't related at all but you have a very soothing voice.
Thanks Tom - still very much appreciated :)
ASMR =)

@@AidarAmrekulov I think you could copy the lines of the shape and adjust them.
Yeah, one of the reasons why I fully watch his videos :)
If you're having an issue with the minus front part, try holding alt when you click on the minus front button in the pathfinder tools.
man..I spent like an hour trying to figure this one out ...that did the trick...thanks!
mee too! (but in this case 3 hours

BOOM! That's awesome to hear Olaoba :)
Ask about paint bucket why i cannot use live paint?? really need explanation

Best teacher I’ve ever had!!!
his voice is a pleasure to hear
This video really helped me. Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
Why are your logos so beautiful and the ones you print on your sweatshirts are so simple?
Maybe it's because it's older version of Illustrator (CS5), but Pathfinder/Unite is not working in Stylize/Round Corner Effect. I don't know.
Solution: For the black triangle first do Make Compound Shape, then Expand
You're a genius. Thanks!
Mike Stankovich Why do we have to "expand"? What is it for exactly??
It reverts the compound path back into a singular vector path.
you saved my life
How do you make it into a compound shape? Thanks
This is an amazing tutorial. It helped me get started with Adobe Illustrator a year ago and this is where it all started for me. Thank you :^)

Awesome! thanks for sharing.
On the bit when you seperated the shape, is it not faster to just Ctrl+Shift+G to ungroup everything? instead of cutting and pasting each one?
G 👌🏽
Doesn't work that way..i have tried..ungroups other things
your voice is a blessing .. thank you so much it helped a lot

for me i am getting stuck while i make the object in pathfinder minus front
Me too! The third time I started over from the beginning now, and every time I go to remove front in pathfinder, it goes wrong....
Me too! :(...
For everyone still having this problem: do Object - Expand apperance on object with rounded corners
