I like ¼" scales for a knife, especially for thicker blades like my preferred 3/16". With sanding, shaping, and polishing you end up with a knife handle about ⅞" thick which is just about perfect for a larger fixed blade.
Thank you for showing these scales. My little brother who is in the U.S. Navy want's me to build him a hunting knife for Christmas and I am new to the knife building field so I really didn't have alot of access of where to look for parts. The first blue and yellow scales you showed are very close to Navy colors and I think he will like them. Much appreciated!
schlaznger hey man. Welcome to the knife making world. This is Jake from IcthysKnives on Instagram. Dm me some pics of your knife when it's done, would love to see it. I bet tungsten cerakote and navy blue handles would look good too, matches the uniform
Hi Mike, what material is that white on the left next to the pink one ? It looks like shell (at 2:32) I'm looking for shell at least 3mm in thickness, but it's hard to find.
So, 1/32 g10 spacers seems much too thin... I wanted them to be 1/8th, maybe a bit thinner, like 5/64th or something, are you supposed to glue them together to get the desired width? or does everyone just have them super thin? I've seen 1/8th spacers though so, I don't get it.
Hi I recent got into scale making made some wood scaled one thing I tried to make some g10 scale but it has this weird texture that I hate does g10 have some type of stock if so is there any websites that sell it without the stock
I’m a big fan of liners. It’s just for looks, but if you’re making an attractive knife or even pistol grips, they really add a bit of flare and look cool.

for hunting, G10 works fine for me. If you're looking into ritualistic sacrifice, however, you're going to need canvas micarta made from Judas Iscariot's tunic. sacrificed blood doesnt work well with G10, but for deer and what-not, you're good.
scottecooke canvas has a rough texture, linen is my favorite, and G10 I have polished smooth. But it gives just as much grip as wood. If not a little more.
That acrylic stuff is garbage, its like dressing up a turd! Drop it and watch hours of work shatter in a million of pieces right in front of your eyes. Its just not practical for a handmade knife that is made for durability and longetivity.

less is more in most circumstances. people also use old dvd/video game cases for handle liners

Handles made from Abalone Shell are so pretty!
Any views?
I had a question and you answered it simply and helpfully. Great video!
I really appreciate your videos and willingness to share your experience with those of us just starting out!
I used 1/8 inch on my first knife and after conturing it was to thin it was a solid black micarta
that kurinite is absolute beauty
I see this video is from 2014, hopefully I can get an answer. Can this stuff be laser cut? Do they have anything at 1mm or 2 at most?
Whats a good and somewhat cheapish epoxy for knife handles?

There all plastic
Hi. Have you make any straight razor scales ? What is the best thickness and material ? Thanks.
Is CF pretty easy to sand? Is it as hard as G10 as far as sanding and shaping? Good upload!
In my opinion, easier.

Very helpful!
What do the liners do? Haven’t heard or seen anyone use them before

What material is the best for the handle
you "handled" this video very well ;^)
If this is relevant for anyone:
A 0.25” 8”x11” sheet of natural jade g10 is like $25 and great for practicing.
I think ghost carbon fiber is still going. I think he’s going by aj composites.
Good video. Thank you for posting.
Great tips well explained thanks.
this was really helpful! thank you!
The thing not mentioned is that this handle material cuts down fast
what are some cheap plastic sheets that have a grip to them ? for handle scales
I have decided to just stick with g10 and micarta

Hello Ekim, Tried to go to ghostcarbonfiber.com and its not working for some reason. Any suggestions or another way to reach him?

How do you find the G10 goes for grip when wet or has blood on it?

Thanks, is you g10 textured though or is it polished smooth. I already have the cloak so I will try my hand at making micarta as well.

cool thanks. I thought it would lose it grip if too smooth similar to most kitchen knives. When wet they can slip a bit.
scottecooke yah. I getcha. it doesnt lose grip for me, but everyone's mileage may vary.
Make a knife for gloves
cut the thick 1 in to 2 peices
So bigger is better if a mistake is made
