I'm from india and still in my semi last year of highschool, my dream is to be a geologist cz i think working on field n traveling to such places would make me really happy, and I've been watching ur videos recently a lot which also made me realise that just watching u do what i want to be doing someday in the future motivates n excites me even more so i just start my day with ur videos... Keep uploading them n thanks
Thanks for the comment and I believe in you to make ur dreams a reality! Be patient and curious and follow your heart. Geology is a beautiful science and lifestyle
Congrats on your paper! As you pointed out, academic research ends up behind a paywall, where only a restricted group of people can read it. That's why I think it is extremely important to share your work like this and make it accessible! Spreading knowledge where is available to society at large benefits everyone and promotes more equal opportunities in science. Otherwise, people without a direct link to science will never even consider a scientific career, which is such a loss! Thanks for sharing, Caden!
No need to excuse yourself for speaking about your research. My PhD is in sociology of autonomous systems and I've been learning about geology through your videos, which is probably something I would not do otherwise. I liked how you said "fixed a few things that I think were incorrect on previous maps." That's indeed pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Well done!
Inspiring as always. Congrats, man! I’ll be starting my masters in GIST at UArizona come January. I’d be lying if I said your videos weren’t an inspiration.
Congratulations on your paper. Many more to come💪🏻 Love your articulation and honesty❤ Keep sharing. Wait, what do you mean by "not genetically predisposed"? 😂 love, mom
Congrats! I've always wondered where ideas for research are born from, especially in this field. At the end of the year having to write my bachelor's thesis about something but I have no idea about what.
Congrats on publishing my man! I’m a first year masters student here at Victoria university of Wellington in New Zealand. My research is looking more at physical geography processes but my background is in both physical geo and geology. Anyway, I’m current writing an essay/literature review about the uplift history of the Central Andes. I was wondering if there are any papers you recommend checking out? Great video btw, keep ‘em comming
Thnx for the words! Awesome to hear that you're pursuing a Masters! re central Andes, a good starting point would be the excellent review by Garzione et al. (2017) (Tectonic Evolution of the Central Andean Plateau and Implications for the Growth of Plateaus). Older foundational papers from Cornell will be helpful: Isacks (1988) "Uplift of the Central Andean Plateau and bending of the Bolivian orocline" and Allmendinger et al (1997) "The evolution of the Altiplano-Puna plateau of the central Andes". Have you read these yet? I can provide more modern studies as well but this is the place to start. Enjoy.
@@cadenhowlett Yeah cool. Simon Lamb is my lecturer for this particular course (you may be familiar with his work). From what I can tell, they have slightly differing opinions on uplift rates post 25Ma!! Although they both are in favour of lithospheric detachment as the main mechanism driving uplift.
@@cadenhowlett Yes! I’m in my final year of undergrad studying Anthropology at Cal State Long Beach. Im sure they do! I’m looking into it for my last semester hopefully. I was also looking to start a Coursera course in the meantime.
My man, your videos are great. And writing papers pushes the geosciences forward. As an undergrad, seeing your videos inspires many students to pursue the academic side of geology instead of industry. Congrats on the paper! I hope you keep making videos in the future
Congratulations on being published ☺☺ but I've just been enjoying my summer since graduating in May. Just being able to recover overall for the last few months has been nice and exactly what I needed but I'm in the process of getting back into school mode because I'm starting U Arizona in January and I'm so excited to learn something new.
Dude, congrats on the new paper! So stoked! The process of writing and publishing scientific research is intense, but it’s rewarding to dig deep into a single question or topic and then ultimately contribute to our understanding of it. Keep it up! It’s worth it.
It’s also cool to see you publish with Kurt! In undergrad, I had the pleasure of fossil hunting with him in the Kishenehn Formation (Eocene, northwestern Montana). He explained all the geology to us while we rafted down the Flathead River. It was amazing!
Thanks for everything Jacob. So cool you got to do fieldwork with Kurt. He knows ALOT about Montana geology and really was one of the first people to crack those rocks and explain Paleogene extension in the northern cordillera. Hope you’re doing well my friend.
Congrats on the getting the paper to print brotha. Always inspired by your words. I enjoy taking your perspectives and applying them to my sports medicine background. I love how you can describe distal consequences of a proximal process in the geology sense and I can directly apply it to human movement and injury evaluation, treatment, or prevention. Much love homie. Keep crushing ❤
Thank you so much bruh. Watching your videos is helping me a lot to get me inspired for my Master's dissertation (It's about Grenvillan anorthosites) . Love from india ❤
good morning amigo! it's the middle of the night here so I'm going to sleep ! Haha what a world we live in. Thanks for being patient w the content - this science stuff takes up most of my time! more soon, I have lots of ideas.
Have a proper well deserved rest then, must say you and your work keep inspiring me to pursue my own scientific path as well, thanks for that, hope to keep in touch!
