It's funny how when Verg calls Lucio as Valencina's "Bundle of Liability". The same can be said with her to Lucio how he could've became better if it weren't for her.
In other words, both were liability to each other.
Lucio had potential to become someone very strong, it’s just that Valencia never saw that potential and only wanted to use him as a “textbook” for Ryoshu. She only really ever saw him as an object and nothing more. Valencia was just as much as a liability to Lucio as he was to her.

I love how the 1st (Lucio) phase sounds so valiant and tragic.
Meanwhile 2nd (Valencina) phase begins with wardums, trumpets, and a literal gunshot.
One is man fighting in hopes of making it out alive and growing from the experience, the battle igniting his will to be free.
Other is a tyrant that revels in the brutality and power trip of war, simply wanting to take out her years of anger and insecurity on those she views as below her.
I feel like valencina is a lot more tragic than people think, she was born and raised in the thumb, what she did to ryoshu and lucio was almost definitely done to her, on top of being a war veteran
she spiraled after being disowned by her family for her disgrace, losing herself in booze
the only thing that was ever shown to her was abuse, it's what's normal to her, and she did show genuine care for ryoshu and lucio (textbook pre-fight ryoshu, flavour text lucio) yet she doesn't know how to show it at all, only showing it in the way it was "shown" to her, never once trying to break the cycle of abuse
ryoshu is the one who breaks the cycle with araya, "how could I recreate what I've never known" goes for all the nursefathers and ryoshu, but ryoshu is the one who actually does
I'm NOT saying valencina is justified or a good person at all, she's terrible, I just like studying and understanding her

@Xado. To add to that, ironically, she's the only Nursefather to even care and get emotional about their Apprentice dying, as she went ballistic on Gregor. Compared to the likes of Callisto who barely reacted, or Matthias and Rien who willingly caused the demise of theirs.

what a heart piercing scene, really stabbed me in the chest when I saw Lucio die.
His head is still intact, we still have hope
One thing that makes this fight stick out from the other Nursefather/Finger fights is the Lore behind Lucio's passive named "Desperate Struggle". He is contemplated on killing Valencina, and eventually, promises to himself that after the fight with LCB, he would've killed her. This makes his death even sadder and expected than it already was. He was so close to being free, but like it is said, there's no true freedom from the house of spiders.
Well at least one of them gets to live, Kira and I believe heath will get Lucio and rodya as valencina because their personalities and backgrounds fit both of them(and also they both don’t have modern tremor ID so more likely to be them)
@bryanthenormal1888 I feel like it might be Rodya as Lucio and Greg as Valencina. It fits their roles and characters a bit more and it'd be funny for Rodion to attempt a 2nd vengeance and fail a 2nd time

I know everyone says Lucio was so close to being free, but honestly? I don't think he was.
How many times must he have stood over a sleeping and vulnerable Valencina and told himself he'd finally do it next time? I doubt the time mentioned in his passive was the first, but it was definitely his last.
I feel for the kid, I really do, but even during the fight when its clear that both he and Valencina are outmatched and have no chance in hell of winning, he still decides to fight despite Gregor and Heathcliff trying to talk him down. If he was really going to betray Valencina if he survived this fight, surely he'd be smart enough to do so at that moment, right?
This is a fairly realistic depiction of what an abusive relationship with an authority figure, let alone a parent, can do to you, sadly. We know Jihoon didn't have a good relationship with his mother, and it really comes out in how he depicts Valencina and Dihui Star.
I personally read that part as Lucio being so done with everything that he sees what Gregor's becoming and sees that as his opportunity for a quick exit (suicide by roach)

so it might have been that he's finally reached a 'breaking point' so to speak and was actually planning on going through with it (presumably after the crew weakened valencina to a point that he could feasibly catch her off-guard) had it not been for the funny roach man
Well, atleast he depicted them not as evil for the sake of being evil but as people with struggles in life in which they did the wrong choice. Chose to rather have a coping mechanism and let out their anger instead of rethinking their lives.

@schnozgaming989 My guy was fighting a group of 3 well-coordinated attackers while having a 1-on-1 oriented fighting style while also being injured and then was also used by his mom as a meatshield against a color fixer, and even then he still almost managed to kill Gregor and seemingly awaken something within himself. Cut him some slack

People be awestruck by the scene after this battle but honestly PM cooked so buttery with the background. You can tell they really loved to experiment with the new Canto, they done made a fight as hype and bombastic as First Kindred VS Knight of the White Moon and turns it into a dynamic background, AND integrates it into phase 2 battle. Kino, honestly.
It's been done before too in the Sweeper intervallo, with Ricardo and his goons fighting in the background while we were swept away
Not to mention the Voice acting of valencina because Holy i can feel her wrath on those voicelines.

People meme in the comments which is fine, but no one is talking about how much more OPRESSIVE this theme gets once Valencia gets kicked by Verg into our beatdown on poor Lucio. It showcases just the kind of presence she has on Lucio, and probably just showcases how strict and oppressive the Thumb is overall in their enactment of rules.
RIP Lucio, Gregor now has more PTSD for not being able to prevent another kid's (in his eyes) death. And worse of all that this time it wasn't a fuckass apple abno but his own doing, or i guess, more so the doing of his hidden potential that was implanted by mother dearest.

If we were to go back during Phase 1 of Ring Nursefather theme, we start off with the string instrument, with the piano being lowkey in the background. The piano then took center stage and became FRANTIC only when Callisto entered the scene. Regardless, both instruments were still in harmony, and the tempo remained consistent throughout the score. Gameplay-wise also shows how both master and apprentice were in sync by having them support one another with defensive assists and timed move sets.
Contrast that with the Thumb Nursefather theme, phase 1 starts off with a quick and action-packed tempo, the Thumb apprentice now has an objective, and he will use all the training under this belt to complete it. Phase 2 begins, and then there is that sudden shift of tempo. The beats feel heavier, and it feels as if something much more commanding has taken control of the leitmotif, it transitioned from action to something more ominous. Valencina may have literally SNATCHED the Thumb battle theme from Lucio. The score still retains the same leitmotif throughout, but it feels more "segmented" especially when you compare it to the Ring. In gameplay, their move sets have no synergy whatsoever; it felt like facing 2 whole separate fighters.
Love how the music not only correlates with the story, but also with the gameplay as well. Studio EIM and Project Moon have done it again

Given how this fight ended and the events which transpired immediately afterwards, I am becoming more and more sure of my theory that Project Moon is slowly building up a big character moment of "Rodion crashes out about being the only one of the Sinners who isn't special, then Distorts and/or betrays the team." I'm also fully expecting that they're saving Rodion's bad ending ID as the payoff.
The funniest shit would be that she doesn't distort at all, and she becomes just a really fucking strong peccatula, only because she isn't special enough to distort
Well if we look at what the limbus company has on their side for the moment we have one level 4 Lcorp Survivor, 3 (maybe more) color fixers, one decisive war winning weapon, a 2nd kindred bloodfiend, a sovereign of the Star, Mirror technology (and by that the strongest versions of each sinner) but Rodion is different, she isnt some kind of supernatural entity (nor has a id that could be like wild hunt) but so far She's one of the more determined one so maybe She's meant to awaken a E.G.O stronger than any other (or she would just distort into a aleph level distortion)
honestly the strangest presences for me rn are heathcliff, ishmael and rodion but considering how seemingly random sinclair's presence looked prior to the sign i'd assume all of them have some sort of supergenius schemer behind picking them, makes me wonder what dante's role was prior to his memories

"Lucio this" "Lucio that", dont get me wrong, i LOVE Lucio, im an italian myself and seeing someone have their moves inspired by my hometown made me cry tears of Joy and i LOVE his character.
But can we talk about Gregor for a second? Not about how powercrept he just became but about the mental damage this Battle had him go trought
Gregor doenst have problems killing enemies, and its pretty obvious. But you can tell Gregor was actually trying to reach Lucio in someway by their dialogues and that brief "Hey wai-" before Lucio struck him and broke his ID. I think gregor saw himself in Lucio for a moment, Gregor's past self and Lucio are basically identical if you think about It for a Moment. Gregor was genuinely trying to make Lucio go on their side.
And then he awakened.
For the second time he wasnt able to help someone he could've saved, and this time It wasnt even because of some external enemy, but only because of his arm. Everyone talks about Valencina's reaction. But Gregor was genuinely distrught, you can hear the pain in Gregor's voice After the attack.
Then he went on and Attack Rodion, Heathcliff and Vergilius. Which i dont think i even need to explain WHY this would damage someone mental state (and the fact that his mental state Is literally labeled "k-kill me...")
The canto's pass on then show's us hohenheim holding Gregor's file. The next intervallo Is gonna basically be canto 1 part 2 Just how they used the time ripper for Rodion.
Alas, i hope that some city tech tomfoolery with K corp can save my boy Lucio and make him have a discussion with Gregor

@---dt8kw사람마다 감상평은 다르겠지만 제가 느낀 것들은 박자가 빠르고 사정없이 몰아치면서 절도있게 끝나는 듯한 느낌을 멜로디에서 받았고 엄지의 스타일을 표현한것같다고 셍각이 들었습니다
그리고 금관악기가 등장하는데 보통 정의, 신념, 명예 같은것을 표현할때 많이 쓰이는 걸로 알고있습니다.
엄지의 경우 정의와는 거리가 멀으니 신념 혹은 명예라고 생각했고, 스토리에 빗대어 이야기를 해본다면 중상이상임에도 끝까지 료슈의 교본 이야기를 꺼냈던 루치오, 상대가 특색임에도 물러나지 않고 자신의 명예를 되찾으려던 발렌치나가 떠올랐고
중간에 라이터 불을 키는것 같은 소리가 나오는데 이당시 저는 자신을 불사지르면서도 혹은 자신이 명예로웠던 과거로 돌아갈수만 있다면 한몸 불사지를 각오가 있는것처럼 느껴졌던것같습니다
비록 정정당당한게 아닌 카론을 납치하면서까지 자신들의 목적을 이루려고 수단과 방법을 가리지 않았다는 것을보고 더러운 수단까지 쓰는구나 했고 이에 더해서 술에쩔어서 못볼꼴 다보여주는 그 모습을 보고 밑천을 다 드러냈다고 생각했습니다
그리고 결국 마지막엔 죽어가면서까지 계속 공격하던 루치오도 있었고 발렌치나는 예상과는 다르게 본인의 최후를 맞이했지만, 상대가 결국 끝에는 이겨낼수 없다고 알고있는 불리한 상황을 알았어도 끝까지 싸웠던 발렌치나를 보고 파멸이라는 끝이 보임에도 싸우고 있다는 듯한 느낌을 받았습니다

Am I the only one that thought Valencina was easily the strongest Nursefather. Like sure, she had a massive ego and talked big against Vergilius, but like she actually went toe to toe with him for a bit when they were both able to go all out (No injured eye, no kidnapped Charon). And she didn't even seem exhausted or anything when she brought upon the Roach Emperor. Verg definitely wins, but without EGO she had him in a stalemate.
There's an argument to be made for Mathias, but I feel like stalemating non-ego Vergilius is more impressive than losing to the DD crew.

With a relic, her eye, a powerful style and managing to become a Sottocapo in her prime, she literally asked Vergilius to at least act like he's winded, that was against the Red gaze not using EGO, mang, Shin and she held Charon hostage
She for sure has the most combat experience from all of them but still way past her prime and a husk of what she has been. Vergilius could easily dealt with her if she didn't go for Charon the first time, and here he didn't use EGO.
Ranking them I would say the order is: Matthias(crazy middle augments and a WHOLE relic)>Rien(prescript shenanigans and his caduceus is akin to a singularity)>Valencina>Callisto>Shiomi/Araya.
Matthias and rien are stronger
