shift+s is the first thing I had to learn and memorize, it was very frustrating since until you know you way around the 3d view port you keep moving it by accident, seeing this video helps me realize how far I have come , but still learn things from these videos, especially since everyone has different techniques, thanks
I can't imagine why someone would want to disable the 3D cursor. It lets you know where you are in the 3D world and how to place objects in reference to each other. It took me a while to get use to using it but now I can't imagine not having it in the scene.

So the 3D cursor is basically useless if I cant snap it to an edge in edit mode and make it rotate in the direction of the edge...
