People need not worry about if you take care of your critters!!! Anyone should be able to tell you love them and take good care of them by the way they look! Geez people!
I live in the mountains of Montana, I want to learn to ride and get a couple mules so i can truly get out and explore the mountains around me. Mules are awesome critters. Thanks for posting your trips man. Thank you from the mountains!
I'm an old Arizona gal, born and raised. 65 years and still here. Just no other way to live....my daddy rodeoed and was a cowboy and raised us kids how to survive in the wilderness. Being out like that is the best way and no other way. I can just smell the campfire, mesquite on the fire. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Keep doing what you're doing brother as long as you can. I highly admire you. Im 74 and cant go anymore because of physical stuff so i travel with you. Thanks pard
@@BrettVaughnB100 I'm 73 and used to ride and camp in the wilderness too. I'm not up to it anymore either so I enjoy these excursions! I enjoy riding along with the Bundy boys when they're roping cattle because I used to enjoy doing that kind of stuff too. 🙂
I sure seen a lot of illegals where we were in New Mexico and a few here and there where we’re at now in Arizona but I’ve never seen any with guns. That’s kinda scary.
Having just returned from some time camping in New Mexico, your video warmed my heart. There's nothing like being out on the land with your animal companions, figuring things out as you go.
When I was in my 20's in the late 70's I did something like this in the Los Padres of Santa Barbara Co. for about two years. We packed donkeys and rode horses. I relive my memories through your adventures, wish I could join you!!! Thanks for sharing.
Happy me! Another video and winter camping to boot. Always feels like I'm camping with you. That you're talking to me across the campfire, making me feel right at home. You are a great mentor even to an old guy, 80 y/o. Now I have to grease my saddle sores! 😊
You would put some of us younger folk to shame with how much energy you have going up and down those mountains Loving your content and all the best for 2025
Brother - I'm an Irishman living in the North of Ireland. I stumbled on this channel by accident and am now hooked - man I could taste that cigar and the campfire smoke! Sat here like those "poor rich folk" sipping my whiskey, chewing on a cigar and wishing I was where you're at just now. Keep on keeping on my friend, from a new sub!
I've been watching youtube for years and apart from two other guys you're the only one who goes to all that trouble to get out there, I mean real, cowboy style. Thank you for your efforts and taking us along
Great video Brett! Those ringtail cats are sure neat. We’ve been wanting to try out a little winter camping with the mules as well. There’s already quite a bit of snow now though haha, it’s going to be cold!
Good morning Mr. Vaughn! Happy Monday! You just have the best life! Thanks for taking us all along with you on your adventures. This last one was so great, especially the game camera at the end. God is so very good!!!! Blessings to you and yours until we see you again!
Great video brother!! You made it so humble and simple that myself and I’m sure many others felt like they are there with you sharing a piece of good old America!! Thank you!
I enjoyed this adventure, Brett. For me, that rock overhang, and the boulders around you would make me feel protected. Isn’t it interesting how each of us has our own unique feelings about places like that? You’re sleeping bag always looks so comfortable. I think you would sleep well! Blessings, dear friend. Thanks for another good adventure!
Just found your channel, and I like it very much. My father use to tell me when I was young, I was born 100 years too late. Funny. Thank you Sir. Great video.

Another great adventure Brett! Watching your trips brings back memories of when we used to camp in the desert in the winter here in AZ. Now we have the place north of Quemado, not as much work, just a five hour drive and 15 minutes to unload ! I used to take heavier pieces of fire wood and whack them over a rock to break them. Even mesquite broke with ease! 7 more days and the border won't be a problem! Thanks for doing what you do my wife watches now and I'm sending them to my cousin in Sun City West.

Super cool video, Brett. Dry and wild country, mules, hounds, varmints, and great camping. Topped off by beautiful desert snow. It don't get any better than that. Thanks for doing your thing.
That was a really cool camping adventure. Glad you were able to get out of there. Kind of like that spot though it's secluded in the bad guys probably won't even know you're there. Beautiful scenery with the campfire reflecting off the rocks. It reminds me of a time when I went camping with the family when I was a kid and me and my buddy we're out in the grass and we were near the lake but there's a big cliffside nearby. We kept hearing noises and had one of those old metal Eveready flashlights that we shined up into the cliffs and they were full of big white Great Horned Owls. We watched them for a while and they would turn their head and their big eyes blink. Then we got to think about those things that look like they're 2 ft tall, and we're just kids, so they could probably carry us away! We went back to the campsite pretty quickly after that.
SO Glad you didn't sleep under that rock! There was one exactly like that where we used to go as a kid. I always thought it was a good place to camp but never did. Went by it one day and the whole thing was flat on the ground, dropped straight down. Yikes! Love your videos and your mules!
I really love watching your show I can’t get out and do much anymore so I just get lost in your show so thank you. Plus I love the kindness and love that you show your animals . Keep up the good work 👍
Just as you were saying that you were not going to sleep under that rock at 16:55 I was thinking the same thing. As I watch you set up your camp, I realize how much I love my gadgets just as much as I love getting there. Especially making the fire. I could sit by a fire on a cold night and catch myself just staring into it.
From deep in the hills of West Virginia. The outdoor life is the best life. There is nothing like being out spending time with mother nature. Keep living the good life, Hoss .
I love your videos. I can't get enough time to play out in these deserts lately. I get lost in thoughts of the settlers crossing this great expanse. And what they must have gone through. Thanks for letting me take a ride with you.
I loved this; Here's a horse packer that is 'looking for a faster and more efficient way to get there' and a guy that doesn't drink...but😁 likes a few shot of whisky when he is camping. Stay with it....
Hi Brett, I'm with you here in Sweden. 73 yo retired from library. Wonderful life you leed. I love that you're taking good care of your animal friends. I like all kinds of weather. You be careful out there. ❤❤😊😊
Thank you very much ... I didn't film me feeding them because my battery on my good camera went dead .. thought I had got it .. they got oats and pellets dogs had kibble and elk backstrap ..
Beep, Beep! Wile E. Coyote must've been hot on that bird's tail at 48:21. Mr Roadrunner shot off like greased lightning! I've slept under rock overhangs, on a ledge where I used my shoe shoes to extend the space long enough to lay out my sleeping bag, and even under a big boulder where I dug through drifted snow to access the cavity under the rock, but I wouldn't have trusted that fractured slab behind your camp either! Incidentally, I wonder just how old that horseshoe joke is? I heard it more than four decades ago from a customer, a young Coast Guardsman, in a guns and archery shop I operated in Port Angeles, WA! 😂 I would not be surprised to learn it's a relic of 19th century humor.
Maybe so ... can't remember how long ago I heard it ... I have a place I'm going to try and go camp .. similar to what you are talking about .. not sure I can do it but I want to try Thanks
One of your very best .. made me want to go camping .. the snow pictures made it better .. I did get a chuckle every time you mentioned those rocks falling .. lol .. Onward and Upward is Still the Watchword !! Some day I’ll share with you where I got that little phrase from !! 😉
As a kid and even now at 73, I break dried mesquite wood over a big rock or stump. You can break limbs up to 4in in diameter! Probably have done cords of wood using this method!
Awesome videos I want to get to the southwest for some exploration in the cold months. I do the same thing with the bedroll those foam pads don't roll up very nice
I like how you walk those mules first after they have been stuck in that trailer for some time. Probably watching how the packs and saddles are riding and cinched too. A good warm up can save you some injuries or so the Army told me.
Something I miss, camping out in the desert. There is something about the quiet. Had an Ellis Cav bag used it for years. Never slept cold or wet. Went to take and use it on an over night stay. Couldn’t find it. It must of been lost in my last move. Till your next one, be safe.
Mike, from Outdoors with the Morgans said in his video today, that his son and nephew camped out overnight in the woods in Pennsylvania in the last couple days. I believe he said it was 17 degrees F with snow on the ground, and they didn't bring tents or sleeping bags. They also went their separate ways and each made their own 'shelter'. Crazy if ya ask this old man, but they are more than a generation younger than you or I.
Brett, the rock structures, Feed storage for mules and horses, from wild and domestic grazing animals, some of those old rock structures, wood rotted away and used for firewood over the decades. Mules, dogs, campfire, food, cigar. 👍. a tin cup with a splash of Old Forester rye, would be great……good bed waiting….coyotes yapping, you got it going….thanks for taking us along thru that rough country. ! Be vigilant , shit happens. 🤠👍
Greating from Australia, love the videos. The smaller stuctures you where looking out may actually be a kitchen. In Australia in the outback i have seen the same thing. They made them seperate to the house because the wood fires where usually run for long periods of time and there was a fear of fire not being attended to all the time may igniting the house. Also heating the house to much in spring and summer and autume.
Brett - I mostly agree with you about mesquite being the best firewood for cooking. Ironwood is better but it hs become impossible to find in any but the most remote places. If I'm building a fire for warmth but not for cooking, my favorite wood out here on the low desert of Western Arizona is a long-dead palo verde trunk. If I camp near a wash I can usually find one 6" - 8" across, dry enough that I can break off enough branches to make it easy to drag. I get a good bed of coals going using whatever wood I can find, then set the end of the palo verde trunk in the coals. It makes just the right size fire. All I have to do to keep the fire going is get up every now and then, grab a bracnh and shift the trunk a little further into the fire. I hesitate to make suggestions becuse you have worked out a good system for solo camping but check out the Summer weight leather gloves FireMaple sells. They're inexpensive, they'e lightweight, they fold up small enough to stuff in your pocket and they sure as Hell save your hands when you're doing tasks like gathering firewood or taking down a barbed wire fence. I don't know about you but at 66 my hands seem to get cut a lot easier than they did when I was younger.
depending on where you are, could have been apart of the old mail routes. Butterland Overfield here in NM has similar small structures every stretch of miles or so.
That gang of thirty-five with automatic weapons is no small matter. Have you considered going with a friend who is armed, as well? I know, you take great pleasure in riding solo, but the times they be a changing and one must make adjustments, even if they are uncomfortable. It only takes one bad confrontation and your life will change forever, not to mention your wife's or family. I take great pleasure in your adventures and look forward to every one. Please stay safe and watch your back. God bless.
I liked that little wash you stayed in. Good call not getting under that rock slab. You bedroll setup looks nice as does your Firemaple mess kit and that Grayl water filter. All of it is reallyvnice kit.
I very much doubt that little stone structure was an outhouse. Outhouses were made to be moved once the hole was filled. More likely some sort of storage my guess, cold storage possibly. The snow definitely took your clip next level.. GREAT video so far.
Thanks again Brett for the ride was wonderful to see the snow here in Nt Qld Australia that's something we can only dream about 😊great clarity in the trail camera footage.Keep living the dream old mate.
Catching up on videos. Glad to see ya out there praise God enjoy every minute please sir. Got them mules rocking now, rock stompers you got a great routine going. Thank you I will try !
Man this is a cool channel. I have always told everyone I should have been born 100 years ago.
Very enjoyable to watch on a Sunday evening!
Brett, the one time you get into a three dog night you only brought two dogs!🥶😂🐕
lol no kidding .. could of used the whole pack .. Thanks
Snow on the ground changes everything good set of chains for the front will keep you going especially if you go to the high country in the winter time
Really enjoyed it appreciate the ride.
Thank you Paul ..!
Snow in the desert… sure is pretty.
Your video quality is top shelf, well done.
Thank you so much, I appreciate that. I do try
You’re a lot tougher than me to spend the night outside on our coldest night! I thought I was gonna freeze in my house that night lol.
It was cold but I was warm in my bag ... just had to do that old man thing and pea 3 times lol that was cold Thanks
Living the dream old timer respect and love from the uk 🇬🇧
depending on where you are, could have been apart of the old mail routes. Butterland Overfield here in NM has similar small structures every stretch of miles or so.
Thanks!
Thank you so much .. I do appreciate the support !!
Great video Brent. Love your adventures. That snow in the desert was beautiful. You young man are an unstoppable force. Keep on keeping on!
Thank you .. I try
Ooh! You got a ringtail this time. Those are incredibly hard to catch on film. Nice 👍
Another awesome video brett.....from Tucson AZ
Great show and overnight. Thanks.
Thank you!
Great video, you got out of there just in time.
I very much doubt that little stone structure was an outhouse. Outhouses were made to be moved once the hole was filled. More likely some sort of storage my guess, cold storage possibly. The snow definitely took your clip next level.. GREAT video so far.
Great adventure, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of the pack in hunting trips we did in Colorado.
Thanks again Brett for the ride was wonderful to see the snow here in Nt Qld Australia that's something we can only dream about 😊great clarity in the trail camera footage.Keep living the dream old mate.
