Hi Silvia. Here's a little more context to the lyrics of Trauma because their traumas actually cut pretty deep and the lyrics are very personal and meaningful (sorry it's long). Vernon's trauma is about not fitting in (Korean society) because he's half Korean. Even though he always said that he feels more connected to his Korean side than to his American side, he was still bullied and made to feel like an outcast for being different, which resulted in him dropping out in 8th grade and getting homeschooled. This all caused him to shut himself in. To try and escape from his loneliness and sadness, he would fantasize and drown himself in music, hence the lyrics "Stuck in my fantasy like, dreaming it to be real life" and "Clogging my ear by stuffing earphone with the volume raised high". Scoups' trauma is stage fright/anxiety. He went on a 4 month hiatus in November 2019 because of it and got treated for his mental health problems. He opened up about this and broke down in tears in Seventeen's documentary called 'Hit The Road'. In his part of the lyrics it says that he's standing on a widening stage, yet it feels like it's getting smaller, caging him in, suffocating him. He was also very hard on himself, hence the lyrics "The hardest thing for me is to be understanding to myself". Even in 'Hit The Road', he kept apologizing to fans for "running away" and mentioned how angry he was with himself when all he did was take a much needed break for his mental health. Wonwoo's trauma is the fear of fading into the background and being forgotten because for a while he used to be extremely quiet and shut in, feeling like he was a burden and not needed. He also spoke about this in 'Hit The Road', saying how he had grown up feeling like a misfit, always quiet and keeping to himself, a by-product of his very introverted and shy personality. He spoke about how Seventeen was the one place where he didn't feel like the odd man out because the members would always take care of him and be mindful of including him in their activities, saying "Wonwoo too". Then there's Mingyu who couldn't think of a trauma and just sang LMAO but I also heard he was scolded a lot during their trainee days and told he wasn't good enough of a singer by a vocal coach that caused him to feel self conscious and insecure but I'm not sure whether this is true or not. Anyway, they all overcame their traumas and broke free from their shackles, resulting in the confident, passionate and humble men we see today! Carats, feel free to correct any mistakes or add to it! Side note: Seventeen's 'Hit The Road' is a MUST SEE for every carat! It’s a 15-part documentary where each member gets an episode dedicated to them (including a prologue and epilogue episode). You'll see a side of Seventeen you've never seen before. They share their struggles and get more personal and vulnerable while we follow them on their 2019-2020 world tour. The episodes are around 10-13 minutes, so they go by pretty fast and it's free to watch on their official youtube channel. In my knowledge, Mingyu trauma is indeed about he was being not confident in his singing and rapping skills. We all know that he got in the company by his visual and he indeed got scolded because of his lack in singing.

Yes and they made it bc they wanted the leaders to introduce this album (their 2nd full album) and the way that it's a change and breakthrough from their previous projects. And this is why teen, age is still one of my favorite albums to date it is just so good and so special
Explanation for Trauma : - Vernon had a really hard time in school as mixed race kid and ended up dropping out in 8th grade to be homeschooled. He's talking about how lonely he felt during those times, and how he took refuge in music to cope. Vernon talks more about his experience as a mixed kid in Korea in his mixtape Lizzy Velasquez. I highly recommend you check it out for a deeper understanding of Vernon's origins, motivations and goals. - Wonwoo has a very introverted and quiet personality, his lyrics here talk about he felt he had a weak presence and was often forgotten in big groups because of it. He's said though that he overcame this trauma thanks to Seventeen because the other members take care of him a lot and makes sure to include him and ask him his opinions. - S.Couos is talking about his stage fright here and how his responsibilities as a leader (and what he thinks the members, company and fans expect of him) burden him a lot. He had to take a hiatus in 2019/2020 when his anxiety became too much for him to bear. He talks more about it in his Hit The Road episode. - Mingyu's trauma is singing, hence why he's the only one singing the main chorus here. He was often told he wasn't a good singer and sought to overcome that. He actually performed a whole solo ballad (unreleased) in their Ideal Concert to challenge himself and present something new for the fans.
yes, also mingyu wasn't the org singer, he joined the company by singing national anthem, when his predebut team is going forward, he tried his best to learn about singing/dancing, it was a hard journey for him, his trauma got him singing

something i think is interesting which you may want to know for the next couple installments in the sweet seventeen series is that the next couple performance team songs have a connected storyline to lilili yabbay! actually not a lot of carats know about it but hoshi mentioned it in a behind interview during fear era (translation from Like17Subs): "Our Lilili Yabbay, Moonwalker, and You Made My Dawn's Shh are all connected. In Lilili Yabbay we are waiting for that someone while dancing leaning to the moonlight. Saying 'Let's meet in the 13th month'. In Moonwalker 'A rope comes down from the sky oh yeh step on the atmosphere'. We went up. Arrived at the moon. [About Shh] In that time going up we're singing let's burn our lies and trust each other. [About 247] Went up having that trust and thought of it continuously 24/7. Okay here are my TMIs for Silvia. *Change Up:* Idk if anyone's said it yet but imma say it anyway lol but there's part where Cheol and Hosh are wearing green and orange. First of all, not only they're literally the colours of a carrot 🥕 but when you invert the colours, they become rose quartz & serenity, which are our fandom colours 😌 ...and yeah they did that on purpose ❤️ *Trauma:* (this hella long sorry) The song along is about their own traumatic experiences. Not a lot of carats know about this (especially the newer ones). *Mingyu's* trauma was singing. He was not so confident with his voice before, not even for his rapping skills as he was casted by the company for his visuals. Hence why, "I'm in trauma it's got me singing.. this my trauma" *Vernon's* trauma was his childhood. Growing up biracial in Korea, having no friends and people making fun of how he looks. He started appearing to variety shows at a young age. Had to drop out to focus on idol training. *Cheol's* trauma was his own self. Before they debuted, literally not a single soul believed SEVENTEEN would make it. This resulted to a lot of self-doubt and eventually affecting his confidence performing. But what made it "worse" was that SVT made it to the top and is now the second biggest boy group in Korea. He never expected he would perform on a big stage in front of thousands of fans and this made him anxious. Again, if you know SVT from the beginning, you know that they only wanted to debut, they didn't expect to be this BIG. Last but not the least, *Wonwoo's* trauma. In contrary to how people think it's about "being forgotten", Wonwoo's trauma isn't actually just that. On the song, he was narrating his traumatic experience has something to do with how childish and immature he was in the past. This has something to do with his long hiatus during Aju Nice era. People (even fans) wanted him out of the group back then. That's why on the song he was saying that he's scared to be left and be forgotten in the present for something he has done when he was a teen. Yes, the lyrics of Trauma are their personal experiences. One of the reasons why it's one of my favorites from HipHop Unit (along with Space), besides already loving the song itself. I already see so many explaining the meaning so I'm gonna leave it at this for now. 😊 I'm also weak for the Leaders Unit! We're still waiting for them to come back with a song even until this day lol. We've been clowning ourselves over it. Fun facts about the song: they made it last minute. They originally had a whole different song for the leader unit but at the last second, they decided to make an entirely different one. They finished making this song in only 24 hours, it's crazy how fast they can work sometimes. Also, this was Hoshi's first time actually rapping in a song on their album. They let him record the rap parts in a joke actually, but he sounded so good that they ended up actually giving him those rap parts lol. 😆❤ Lilili Yabbay is one of my most favorite performances of them. The choreography is just so beautiful. Also, fun fact, Performance Unit has a story that carries on throughout their songs for a while. Begins from Teen Age album (which is this song) and ends in An Ode album. Their songs throughout that are all connected and tells a story. I don't wanna spoil it to you about what, but Hoshi has an explanation on a behind video if you're curious on how they connect after listening to all of those albums~ Speaking of, I can't wait until you listen to this album! Teen Age is still one of my favorite albums from them until this day. I just love the whole vibe of it. Hi Silvia. Here's a little more context to the lyrics of Trauma because their traumas actually cut pretty deep and the lyrics are very personal and meaningful (sorry it's long).
Vernon's trauma is about not fitting in (Korean society) because he's half Korean. Even though he always said that he feels more connected to his Korean side than to his American side, he was still bullied and made to feel like an outcast for being different, which resulted in him dropping out in 8th grade and getting homeschooled. This all caused him to shut himself in. To try and escape from his loneliness and sadness, he would fantasize and drown himself in music, hence the lyrics "Stuck in my fantasy like, dreaming it to be real life" and "Clogging my ear by stuffing earphone with the volume raised high".
Scoups' trauma is stage fright/anxiety. He went on a 4 month hiatus in November 2019 because of it and got treated for his mental health problems. He opened up about this and broke down in tears in Seventeen's documentary called 'Hit The Road'. In his part of the lyrics it says that he's standing on a widening stage, yet it feels like it's getting smaller, caging him in, suffocating him. He was also very hard on himself, hence the lyrics "The hardest thing for me is to be understanding to myself". Even in 'Hit The Road', he kept apologizing to fans for "running away" and mentioned how angry he was with himself when all he did was take a much needed break for his mental health.
Wonwoo's trauma is the fear of fading into the background and being forgotten because for a while he used to be extremely quiet and shut in, feeling like he was a burden and not needed. He also spoke about this in 'Hit The Road', saying how he had grown up feeling like a misfit, always quiet and keeping to himself, a by-product of his very introverted and shy personality. He spoke about how Seventeen was the one place where he didn't feel like the odd man out because the members would always take care of him and be mindful of including him in their activities, saying "Wonwoo too".
Then there's Mingyu who couldn't think of a trauma and just sang LMAO but I also heard he was scolded a lot during their trainee days and told he wasn't good enough of a singer by a vocal coach that caused him to feel self conscious and insecure but I'm not sure whether this is true or not.
Anyway, they all overcame their traumas and broke free from their shackles, resulting in the confident, passionate and humble men we see today!

Explanation for Trauma :
- Vernon had a really hard time in school as mixed race kid and ended up dropping out in 8th grade to be homeschooled. He's talking about how lonely he felt during those times, and how he took refuge in music to cope. Vernon talks more about his experience as a mixed kid in Korea in his mixtape Lizzy Velasquez. I highly recommend you check it out for a deeper understanding of Vernon's origins, motivations and goals.
- Wonwoo has a very introverted and quiet personality, his lyrics here talk about he felt he had a weak presence and was often forgotten in big groups because of it. He's said though that he overcame this trauma thanks to Seventeen because the other members take care of him a lot and makes sure to include him and ask him his opinions.
- S.Couos is talking about his stage fright here and how his responsibilities as a leader (and what he thinks the members, company and fans expect of him) burden him a lot. He had to take a hiatus in 2019/2020 when his anxiety became too much for him to bear. He talks more about it in his Hit The Road episode.
- Mingyu's trauma is singing, hence why he's the only one singing the main chorus here. He was often told he wasn't a good singer and sought to overcome that. He actually performed a whole solo ballad (unreleased) in their Ideal Concert to challenge himself and present something new for the fans.
yes, also mingyu wasn't the org singer, he joined the company by singing national anthem, when his predebut team is going forward, he tried his best to learn about singing/dancing, it was a hard journey for him, his trauma got him singing

as far as we know 247 is the last song in the storyline, the only performance unit song after that is Wave from the most recent album and so far none of the members have mentioned anything about it being connected, and it doesn't obviously tie into the storyline. but just something that might be fun to look out for when you get to the next songs if you see this comment and remember it ^^

Idk if anyone's said it yet but imma say it anyway lol but there's part where Cheol and Hosh are wearing green and orange. First of all, not only they're literally the colours of a carrot 🥕 but when you invert the colours, they become rose quartz & serenity, which are our fandom colours 😌

*Trauma:* (this hella long sorry)
The song along is about their own traumatic experiences. Not a lot of carats know about this (especially the newer ones).
*Mingyu's* trauma was singing. He was not so confident with his voice before, not even for his rapping skills as he was casted by the company for his visuals. Hence why, "I'm in trauma it's got me singing.. this my trauma"
*Vernon's* trauma was his childhood. Growing up biracial in Korea, having no friends and people making fun of how he looks. He started appearing to variety shows at a young age. Had to drop out to focus on idol training.
*Cheol's* trauma was his own self. Before they debuted, literally not a single soul believed SEVENTEEN would make it. This resulted to a lot of self-doubt and eventually affecting his confidence performing. But what made it "worse" was that SVT made it to the top and is now the second biggest boy group in Korea. He never expected he would perform on a big stage in front of thousands of fans and this made him anxious. Again, if you know SVT from the beginning, you know that they only wanted to debut, they didn't expect to be this BIG.
Last but not the least, *Wonwoo's* trauma. In contrary to how people think it's about "being forgotten", Wonwoo's trauma isn't actually just that. On the song, he was narrating his traumatic experience has something to do with how childish and immature he was in the past. This has something to do with his long hiatus during Aju Nice era. People (even fans) wanted him out of the group back then. That's why on the song he was saying that he's scared to be left and be forgotten in the present for something he has done when he was a teen. I won't go to details anymore about this, there are several articles on Google.

Yes, the lyrics of Trauma are their personal experiences. One of the reasons why it's one of my favorites from HipHop Unit (along with Space), besides already loving the song itself. I already see so many explaining the meaning so I'm gonna leave it at this for now. 😊
I'm also weak for the Leaders Unit! We're still waiting for them to come back with a song even until this day lol. We've been clowning ourselves over it. Fun facts about the song: they made it last minute. They originally had a whole different song for the leader unit but at the last second, they decided to make an entirely different one. They finished making this song in only 24 hours, it's crazy how fast they can work sometimes. Also, this was Hoshi's first time actually rapping in a song on their album. They let him record the rap parts in a joke actually, but he sounded so good that they ended up actually giving him those rap parts lol. 😆❤
Lilili Yabbay is one of my most favorite performances of them. The choreography is just so beautiful. Also, fun fact, Performance Unit has a story that carries on throughout their songs for a while. Begins from Teen Age album (which is this song) and ends in An Ode album. Their songs throughout that are all connected and tells a story. I don't wanna spoil it to you about what, but Hoshi has an explanation on a behind video if you're curious on how they connect after listening to all of those albums~
Speaking of, I can't wait until you listen to this album! Teen Age is still one of my favorite albums from them until this day. I just love the whole vibe of it.
