  • Hi Weekend Crafter!
I hope you are having a great start to your weekend. I am so excited to share with you my newest toy/tool. It's really a tool, but I've had so much fun with it that it's more like playing to me.
So for this tutorial, I am showing you 5 different ways to make earrings using a clay extruder. In my polymer clay groups, they ask if it's worth it to buy an extruder. And for someone like me who has always rolled their logs manually, I can say with conviction that it is worth it, especially if you work with clay on a regular basis.
A helpful tip in using an extruder is that you should condition your clay generously. If you do not condition your clay enough and pass it through an extruder, you will get visible cracks on your logs.
Another tip to hold the shape is that if you're using a metal cutter, bake it together with the clay so that the shape will come out very neatly and evenly.
Finally, if you're making hoops, use earring posts with an extended peg.
Here's a link so that you can see for yourself how the post should look like. www.amazon.com/Sterling-Silve...
Here is another link for where you can find an example of a clay extruder - www.amazon.com/Mi4uhappy-Stai...
I hope that you will have fun making these designs over the weekend. If you want to see what I'm up to, head on to my IG @crafttime.ph.
    As always, keep on crafting!

How do you clean your extruder between colors so they don't get contaminated?

    • @CraftTimeStudio

Hi and thanks for stopping by. First, I clean the plate by scraping off any stuck clay using a tissue blade. Then I spray fhe plate with some alcohol and wipe it down. I also scrape the exces clay from the thing that pushes the clay out of the extruder.

How do you keep the snakes from splitting apart? I've just made some of the rainbow shaped type with Sculpey Premo, and the snakes split apart pretty easily.

One way to do it is to put a little bit of liquid sculpey on the snakes to make them adhere better to each other. You can use a pin or a detail needle to spread the liquid Sculpey 😊

How do you make it not so sticky? Or what brand you use?

    • @CraftTimeStudio
      @CraftTimeStudio  3 года назад

The clay sometimes becomes too sticky when the temperatures are high. To give my clay some firmness, I let it rest in the refrigerator a bit. I also mix brands. If my Sculpey is too soft, I mix it with harder clay, like Fimo or Premo =) Hope it helps!

Thank you! I crank it all the way to the top and then I wipe the remaining clay off with a microfiber towel. I also wipe off the plate that I use 😊

Not to be rude, but I feel like your camera needs to be at a different angle

No offense taken 😊 During my first year of shooting and video editing, I was still learning a lot. I hope that my more recent videos reflect the change.
