I know people like to pump up the live version of this but it just doesn't match up. He sings it well live although he lowers the key, but he was clearly going through it when he wrote and recorded it. This really is one of the most raw vocals i can think of hearing in the last 10 plus years.
My daughter and I just went on james cross country tour from Oakland calif to Boston MA. WOW. my daughter is blind, but we were right there on the front row. He does a fantastic show. She has followed him since he won x factor. He's a great person too. Loved your reaction. I think you felt his pain. He went thru some deep depression , so he wrote this song about that time.
