Man this is awesome. Really. I am european, and I mostlly like agile sporty 4-6 bangers, but this... It looks like hell lot of fun driving! Its like 50 years old TRUCK, that gives probly arround 350-400 hp! I mean, look at the pull of that thing! Thats insane :D Amazing, and driving it countryside like that really must be ironing your soul.. :) Really really cool.
I love this comment. Thanks for watching!
Your comment inspired me to make another video, here it is: ruclips.net/video/jCm1vUSWvFs/видео.html
sorry for accidentally calling you British when I really have no idea what country you are from mate
probably closer to 200 hp but there's nothing like driving these old trucks. And they have tons of torque, close to 400 lb-ft
@@Terminxman Yep.
That's why I bought myself a '66 Mercury Monterey with the 390 FE here in Germany! There are no european cars imho that can compare to that feeling while cruising
"the guy who lives there complains about me so I tried to be really annoying for him" lmao! I need you as my neighbor
Oh she is saucy. 390 is one of the greatest sounding motors Ford's ever put out
Just picked up a 66' F100 with a 390 in it! It's been incredibly fun and I don't regret it whatsoever!
orionsells everyone’s getting f100s I bought a f350 dually with a 390 it’s a real beast
Do you roughly know what the 0-60 on the 390 is?
I had a short bed with a 352 3 speed manual. That 390 sounds off the chain. You have a definite moonshine hauler there.
I'd love to have a stick shift in this truck. Hopefully someday I will be able to change it over. Thanks for the comment friend :)
God _damn_ this thing sounds great.
I had a 1966 F100 with 352 V8 and 4 speed manual transmission. I loved that truck and drove for 10 years. But decided to restore my dad 1968 F100 with 390 V8 & C6 Automatic,( that was in 1988) It also is a great truck. I still drive it, it has never been parked. It out lasted my 2 olds cars
that thing has a killer exhaust note makes me smile watching the videos
Brady Lindley thanks bud
you sir just got a new follower. love the truck
v u should restore that truck
Brady Lindley haha same
Same here brother.
That is one of the best sounding V8's!
Glad you enjoy, thanks
It's sounds a million times better than any modern truck will ever sound like.
V8? 🤯 Whats horses?
That truck sounds absolutely wicked in the best possible way.
Gives me goosebumps the sound of it. I want one 😍
Idk what it is but those FE engines really have a sound of their own, one of the best V8s I've heard! I miss driving around a 390
Thanks buddy I love this sound
That because of the firing order. I believe it’s the same as the flathead and Y block era ford motors.
Really enjoyed the ride along. Took me back 30 years when I had my 65 with a 352 with a 3 speed with electric OD man such a sweet and fun ride. Loved the super clean engine bay shows your pride.
Thanks for watching 😊
Beautiful truck! I grew up with dad driving a 66 f100 with a 390 in it and a 4 speed. I'm so glad it's mine now! Such a fun truck to drive and have fun with!
Maaaannn those Ford FEs sound good!! Why it's my favorite engine
I got the biggest smile on my face at the moment you said "right when I do this".
Jehusits so did I buddy
That sound makes me smile.
I'm looking for a roller project to transplant my 390 (.30 over/C6) from my 1967 Galaxie 500. Car rusted away but engine still with me :-) ♡
I saw you defending my oil filter video on my channel and so I checked out your channel and hey you love old Ford Trucks! I sold my 67' Ford I had for a few years that had a 352 in it when I bought it. Of course I pulled that out and put a 460 in it with a roller cam and higher compression pistons, but that was just for better ummm, fuel economy, yeah. Anyways your truck sounds great.
Adept Ape hey thanks for watching
Would you prefer a 390 or a 460? I can’t decide and I’m choosing over a 68 ranger with a 390 big block or a 75 Ranger XLT with a 460.
@@haydenfoutz6858 both are pretty good engines! The 460 has a better oiling system and probably a bit easier to build up. The valve train is better on the 460 as well. The FE engine series holds a special place in my heart though and because of that I will stick with them even though there may be better options out there.
I’ll bet everybody in your neighborhood knows about the little red Ford truck and how loud it is. Awesome!😎
Thanks for the eargasm 😉🤘 nice setup!!!
Glad you enjoy
Right now I have same year truck and model but with a crate 302 in it. As much as I love them rat motors my dream is to have a 390 in it. It’s powerful and sounds absolutely incredible. Great video my man
Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. I absolutely love the FE engines.
looks like a lot of fun can't wait to take mine for a ride some day. Yours sure has a set of pipes on it
Awesome ! You really never see vids like this. Badass how you’re laying into that throttle
It's quite a liberating feeling to jump in this pickup and lay into it. Thanks for watching and commenting 😁
Lovely eh? ya just gotta love the old FE style big blocks. I recovered a 67 Ford tow truck with the same webbed 390FE. I look forward to the future project. Cheers.
i love this !!! i was born in 66 and a Ford guy
very nice, I have a mercury of the same year white and beige and you can't beat the body style of '66
You got to love the sound of a big block 390 Fe.they almost sound like a Harley Davidson.😍😍😍
This is wonderful, what a sound, glad you were brave enough to do this with wet roads :-)
Nice work brings back memories of my dads 65 very well done.
I got one of these plannin on fixin it up next April and here in it sound like this is a amazing
Hello i am fortunate to still own and drive my Dads(RIP) 66 F100 IT Still has the original 352 engine thats on its sexond rebuild the total miles since new i calculate at about 250000 miles and still humming with hedman hedders holly 350 2 barrel 3 speed trans im running 30 over with 390 heads i have won many abet due to the fact it starts with 1/2 click of the key no pumps on gas. Getting ready to install power discs up front already has original power steering imagine power steering with that big 17 or 18 inch steering wheel gonna drive it to my end and leave it to one lucky nephew its been lots of fun and happy driving memories good luck with yours
This is one awesome truck and one reason why I want my dads 76 f100
Nice truck buddy and btw nice Mercury grand marquis great cars!!
I really love the sound of the 390 my dad had one with a 4 speed sound so bad ass.. when your shittin and getting
Nice. I miss my 76 f100 watching this video
Back for the umpteenth time LOL.
I gotta rebuild the MX transmission in my 59 Mercury, it might actually be the same trans as in your truck. In D1 it acts like 2nd gear is gone but in D2 2nd gear is perfectly fine. Something in there also sounds like a paint can full of gravel at times LOL.
I'm finally swapping a 4 speed into my '76 f150, and I'm on the lookout for a 390 crank and rods. It has a 360 so I figure when I go to rebuild it I might as well add the cubes.
Hope all is well with you!
Good to see ya buddy and that sounds like a fun project. I'm sure you probably know that in one of the drive positions it starts off in 2nd gear while in the other drive position it takes off in 1st. It's weird to me that second gear would act differently in each position.
@@Krankie_V Yeah it's weird, when it starts off in 2nd, it's fine. But in the other position it starts in 1st, then it flares to the moon and then hits 3rd like 2nd is burned out. It could just be gunk in the valve body but considering that it's supposed to be a closed system, that's likely going to mean a rebuild anyways. It's supposed to have bronze friction discs instead of paper lined clutches, pretty interesting.
On those old Cruise-O-Matics drive was actually in the lower position (where your shifter says 2), it starts out in 1st gear and goes to 2nd then 3rd. The position that we consider drive today was 2-3 for driving in snowy conditions. The lowest of course was 1st. Nice truck.
Shaun Butterfield thanks for the comment. for some reason or another, this trans only starts in first when the "1" is selected
Krankie V, I love the truck I've owned 9 65-66 Ford trucks. My current is a 65 100 short box with a 347 EFI and AOD.
There is probably something minor wrong with the valve body because it does not go into first gear in any position other than 1.
reminds me of my dads 46 Lincoln. sounds great.
Charles Chidester thanks it's a lot of fun
She sounds great!! Pretty damn fast too!!! I'm glad you got it all back together so you can enjoy it again! You can't stop smiling driving it and I can't stop smiling watching it haha. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoy!
Wow that thing sounds mean. Love the idle.
I love the old fes, I got one in my truck paired with a np435 and 4:56 gears and I rarely have to downshift from 4th
Sounds mean man! Love it!
nice truck, don't paint it, the old paint gives it character
Dan Gerous he should patina over the rust
I love the truck. Great project
Ya know its a good video when I watch it and smile..lol
My Damn Channel thanks bud
Oh my god that truck sounds amazing
I miss those days of simple automobiles, too many gadgets nowadays.
Great video man! it's a lot more fun in person haha
Yo dude. When my 428 was off the road and fucking having probs these vids kept me going. Tks. Got my own selection of driving vids. FE for the MF win!
CJDUBstang glad you enjoyed buddy
Shit, that sound ! I own a 63 t-bird with the 390 but it has been in the shop for over 5 months. Parts are hard to get in europe and it's sad to see these cars vanish from the roads. Even with the global warming shit going on, these American cars should survive. They have their place in history.
It is sad to see the history disappearing. My take on the subject is that these classics don't get driven enough to have a huge impact on the environment anymore. Let them have their limited use, and preserve the automotive history. Thanks for watching, cheers
@@Krankie_V exactly, I agree. Some people try to discuss with me about the car. I try to walk away. They can't see the joy it brings to a lot of people. 99% really like the car though :)
Krankie you got a loveable road. I would run my 3spd 390 like you do. Well soon enough
Sounds and looks nasty. LOVE IT.
This video put a big smile on my face!!! F'in A!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
thanks for the update!
This is an eargasm :O ❤️🔥
Cool truck. I have a 1966 F250 with a 352 and 4 speed.
Sounds like a fun truck to drive man
I bet the people in New York City would feel they're bodies shaking if you drove you're vicious sounding 390 FE powered 66 F100 in New York City and I bet they'll give you the finger as well.
LOL yeah screw them
@@Krankie_V LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
390 likes haha. I’d like but I don’t want to mess it up
So what are the plans for the Dodge D250 you have in you're yard.
Love the sound of your truck man!!! It's amazing. I have a 1966 Ford F100 with a 292 (Made in Argentina) What exhaust configuration do you have in the truck, I would love to have that sound in my truck... Thanks, and keep making videos! Best regards!
It's got headman hedders with 2.25" pipes and flow tech purple hornies brand glasspack mufflers
If I was blind I would have thought I was watching Bullitt!!!!!!!
I have a 78 f100 and it has 351w and was wondering what exhaust u had on yours cause it really sounds bad ass and I wanted to do same thing to mine make it sound like that
CD'S repairs and automotive check the video description guy
3:55 Nice revving!!! 😈
Lucas Martínez Parra thanks for watching
Krankie V You're welcome, my friend. :)
Strange that it would be different. I know mine is exactly how it was build considering it's been in my family since it was new and i know exact what has been done to it..
You should bring that truck to ohio so we can race them. I think it would be pretty close. But I'm glad you got yours to a good running condition.
maybe some day haha
cool truck. i have one the exact same. sounds chunky and pulls like a 16 yo school boy .
352 360 and 390 were available for that year they all looked identical if its original you can tell by the VIN number or you have to run a bunch of other numbers off the block that sounds like the 352 I had in my 67 the 352 had a different sound it was higher compression I remember when I put enough timing in it for it to really be Snappy it was hard to start when it was hot
Rusty Stuff in 1966, the only v8 engine available in the f100 pickup was the 352. The engine in the video is a 390 from a 1968 galaxie or thinderbird.
Krankie V yeah they had them in the big cars that's what I meant by they were available it's so hard to tell if you get one used sometimes what somebody put together I remember putting industrial truck heads and closing the extra exhaust on a 390 then I found a 360 but it had dish top pistons then had the bright idea of putting those heads on it and it would barely run the compresion was so low I tried some crazy things with those before there was any internet to help and nobody knew anything other than just try it
Rusty Stuff I ran the casting numbers and part numbers to confirm what this engine is.
Krankie V it's pretty easy now you can do it from your phone when I was playing with them there was no such thing as an internet and you couldn't even hardly find a book you had to rely on what someone told you
Great video thanks dude
"It will hold second gear for as long as you want."
Dude has a d100 f100 and a honda 3 wheeler...already know he is cool lol
Right on brother man 🤘
sounds like it has a real tall gear in it like 2.76 or 3.08, if you put a 2500 stall and a 3.73 gear in it i think that it would wake it up for sure
i think a 2000 stall would suffice with a lower gear for street use
Excellent sound on your truck man👌. How are the glass packs holding up since this video? I'm looking at a couple different options for my exhaust when I get to that point on my build next year. Thanks for the video. 😎
The glass packs have held up this far, but are probably about due for replacement. Thanks for watching
Hey where you from.. message me im interested in a similar build. But the trans has me concerned
Love the truck!
I just bought a 70' F-100 long bed with a 390 big block. Only 22 and dont much about cars but my mom knows quite a bit from her muscle car days. Any suggestions on if I should raise the truck, or ad spacers for when I wanna go mudding? I live out in the mountainous desert with lots of dirt and mud hills so theres no way I'd want to ride that low, even tho I love Lowrider mini trucks. I need to hall wood and landscaping equipment..
Also as far as being auto ignorant I think it's my fat for not doing auto mechanic classes in school even tho my father was in prison and I was a bad kid doing dumb shit
I'm not sure bro I've never done anything like lifting a truck. If you go that route, do a lot of research and make sure it's done correctly or you'll have a bunch of problems
Krankie v I'm looking at buying a 73 f100 with a modified 390 fe, I haven't ever heard of the fe design and want to get some info on it. Here's his description of modifications, he wants 16,500. Rest of the truck looks clean and well taken care of and I think I may be getting a sweet deal on this. Please help me
390 FE Big Block bored 30 over
Mild cam
Rebuilt motor with all new parts (intake, heads, Pistons, ect)
Long Tube Headers
Dual Flowmaster Exhaust
Aluminum core radiator
Dual electric fans
MSD Ignition
ROSS CLAYTON way too high priced. keep lookin
Sounds good man. Hows that old truck handle on the road. Thinking about picking up a 65 shortbed
My Damn Channel it handles about how you would expect a 50 year old pickup to handle. body rolls in turns, steering feels a little loose, suspension is soft. however, I've always been able to keep it on the road- even in a panic skid where I really thought I was gonna lose it.
Krankie V Looks like the old truck handles pretty good man. The one I'm looking at is a 65 Shortbed with a 302. Body is maybe a 5 out of a 10 but shes road worthy.
been following posts really inspiring.i have a 66 w 352 ,needs a lot but you guys got me at least doing something onit,i feel i can at least help preseve it for next person.
What valve size are you running and what casting number of heads I love the truck I am working on a 76 f100 explorer right now
Pffff I'm not sure man the heads are nothing special. The valve sizes are pretty much stock except the stems are oversized. This motor isn't anything crazy just sounds mean lol
Hi Krankie V, remember that abandoned house you visited with controlled explosions about 5 years ago? Will you be going back? :D
Probably not, the house has since been fixed up and is offered for sale or rent. Who knows, maybe I'll move in hahah
Lol okay xD
Did the transmission change at all between 66 and 67. I haven’t noticed my 67 with the c6 tranny try to shift up in second like you talked about.
This is a MX cruise-o-matic transmission, not a c6 so it is definitely different.
Is it hard to drive without power steering difficult? I am thinking about buying a 68 ranger but it doesn’t have power steering. Is it stupid that might be a deal breaker for me? I love the sound of the 390’s so it is probably worth it anyway.
Hayden Foutz it's definitely more work to steer.
Note that these old trucks are easily converted. The steering boxes are all pretty much the same and still available to buy remanufactured units. It's not hard to find a power steering pump either, and the mounting brackets and pulleys can be bought secondhand. The toughest part would be finding a set of hoses that fit but I bet that's not really hard either.
They were geared for the no power steering, but still way different than power steering
That truck sounds mean are you running with the factory dished top pistons with that choppy 305h cam if so im gonna buy that cam for my 69 f250 sounds good man
They are the factory pistons 9.3:1 compression ratio
if you're running an auto trans you'll want to upgrade your flexplate and install a higher stall speed torque converter, something like 2000 rpm stall
Krankie V what cam do you recommend i have the stock truck block 8:6 1 compression im already getting a 4bbl intake holley 670 and headers my stall is 2000 from the previous owner changing it
montano montana
well you can run whatever cam you want. this cam I have sounds mean but makes very little low end torque. With a 2000 stall you'd be ok though
Okay cool ive been watching your videos for awhile
thanks for watching bud
Sounds good!
thanks bud
I'm working on a 69 f100 3 speed on the floor with a 390 anything you know would help I have some short videos on here under 69 f100 my gray have not drove it yet it runs need fuel cell
What Transmission Do You Have Also What A Nice Truck Sounds Great And Its Pretty Damn Quick To
it's a cruise-o-matic 3 speed auto, I think it's the "MX" trans but it could be the "FX".. I never actually bothered to check into it
I'm ur 2,000 subscriber lol
Well thanks for the sub and welcome to my channel friend
Krankie V and thank u for all the great videos buddy
Do you know what cam is in the 390 and about how much horse power? Great sounding truck!!
Comp cams magnum 305H
This thing is probably somewhere between 350 and 400HP. It could do a lot better with upgraded pistons and such. It's not really built properly lol
Shorty or long tube headers? Sounds fantastic
Long tube
Nice truck! This thing sounds like a beast. I noticed in your description you said you were running hedman headers. Do you happen to know which part number they are? I have a 66 F 250 with a 390fe and I'm looking to get some headers for it or seek some information on what might fit. Thank you!
I believe they are part number 89120 from Hedman. I tried Flowtech headers first, and the driver side did not fit. The pipe was hitting on the engine mount. That's when I bought the Hedman brand and they fit perfectly.
Krankie V thanks for the info! Did you install yours once the engine was already dropped in or before?
Garret Dodgion engine has to be in the vehicle first
I think you should make a video of take you're girlfriend for a ride in you're F100 and scaring her by flooring that vicious sounding 390 FE engine in it.
Hey man, what's the valve train setup, and beside springs did you have to do anything to the stock heads to accommodate that much lift?
At the moment it has stock rocker shafts and such but I feel like it's straining them too much. It needs a roller rocker setup.
All that was done to the heads is hardened valve seats, new exhaust valves, and valve guides. The heads were machined around the valve guides to accept the double valve springs and new positive valve stem seals.
You probably shouldn't ask for my advice or go by what I've done here though, because I don't really know what I'm doing as far as engine building goes, and my work is definitely not done the "right" way.
Wat the most u drove the truck since engine build
It's not your torque convertor's fault. Your cam has too much duration to be running with that truck. You'd need a 3,000-4,000 rpm stall speed convertor to have a bottom end and then you'd start breaking parts. The loppy sound of the cam may be cool, but you'd have a lot more fun with your truck with a strong bottom end.
it would drive fine with a 2000 stall. this engine is only temporary until I can find the block I need to build a real proper street motor
Sounds fantastic.love the 3on the tree.i think 3 speed , right?
It's a 3 speed automatic. I shift it manually to keep it in the power band. I have a 3 speed manual which I hope to swap into the truck though.
nice truck man! I have a 68 f100 with a 428 i wanna put a cam in it looking at 280h comp I was told that anything higher than .550 lift will bend or snap rocker shafts at high rpm your bigger than that with this cam. What valve train you running stock?? what kind of rpm do you rack out I'd like to rev to about 6k any issues?
Tyler Schwoerer the rocker assemblies are stock (for now). I don't push her any harder than 5000 RPM with the current configuration.
Krankie V get like a 3k stall and she'll scream off the line nice truck you from WI at all
Tyler Schwoerer 3k is a bit too high to be practical for street driving. I don't race at all, so I would opt for something like 2200 stall. that way it wouldn't be slipping while cruising down the highway at 65, and the trans would run cooler. I'm from upstate NY
Krankie V well even with a 3k or 2500 it will still move you I have a 2500 stall in mine and it starts to roll at about 1800rpm
ok the 352 had heddman header 2.25 inch pip and purple hornie glass packs right
yes, same exhaust on this engine
damn that was fun!
thanks for watching :)
very Nice!! mine 390 is way to quiet even without mufflers.. any suggestions for me? i'm jealous ;)
Joseph Bert higher compression pistons, exhaust headers, and a more aggressive camshaft profile will make her bark
Krankie V ok thank you! what about the H pipe? i have one
Joseph Bert I'm not sure if that makes much of a difference or not. my pickup does not have one.
I'm just getting into this, but it doesn't sound like there was a second stage of the carberator open up. Are you running a 2bbl?
Jason Davenport in this video, I had a 4 bbl with vacuum secondary venturi. They open so gradually, it's hard to hear when they open. Recently, I upgraded to a double pumper carb. Thanks for watching!
great truck, I love her.
Thanks bud
Sounds insane. What length are the glass packs? Are the inlets and outlets offset?
The glass packs are straight. I think they're 18"long but it's been a while lol. They are available in a bunch of different configurations. Look for flowtech purple hornies mufflers on summit racing. That's where I got mine.
