The idea dea of growing plants in environmentally controlled areas has existed since Roman times. The Roman emperor Tiberius ate a cucumber-like[6] vegetable daily. The Roman gardeners used artificial methods (similar to the greenhouse system) of growing to have it available for his table every day of the year. Cucumbers were planted in wheeled carts which were put in the sun daily, then taken inside to keep them warm at night. The cucumbers were stored under frames or in cucumber houses glazed with either oiled cloth known as specularia or with sheets of selenite (a.k.a. lapis specularis), according to the description by Pliny the Elder.[7] Great video guys!

So nice to know that Syngenta is thinking about construction methods that will allow farmers to use less chemicals. Who says they don't care about the common man. I'm sure they will be happy to provide GMO seed at inflated cost as well.

Thanks for this awareness video running in RUclips since some time.
This is really important to disseminate the unique idea of nature friendly, energy efficient, and comparable 'low-cost greenhouse technology'. It is naturally ventilated greenhouse with all shorts of modern farming facility, thus comparable almost in every respect.
However please note the two following points very carefully.
    (1) It is not easy to built a scientific low-cost greenhouse which is comparable to common iron-frame greenhouse. The technology is prone to dilution due to its non-standard construction material. So please know & follow the proper technology and methodology of construction. OTHERWISE IT WILL BE A FAILED EFFORT.
    (2) It can't be possible to erect a scientific low-cost greenhouse with almost no-cost. The cost of covering materials will cost similar to that of common pipe-frame greenhouse. It will cost 1/3rd to 1/2 of the common pipe frame greenhouse.
-- Low-cost scientific technology is always a difficult proposition.

Well, I know that cucumbers, squash, watermelon, etc. require insect pollination. You can also pollinate them by hand if you pick the male flower, pull the petals off to expose the stamen that produces the pollen, than brush that into the female flower. There may be others also, but those are the ones that I know.

4000 sq m (approx. 1 acre green house for vegetables in India costs Rs. 35 lakhs (galvanized steel structure) and Rs. 20 to 25 lakhs ( treated bamboo structure) till plantation. Govt. of India's Ministry of Agriculture gives subsidy of 50 % for the same under the NHB/ NHM programme. Only structure costs Rs. 620 per sq.m.(galvanized steel structure) and Rs. 350 per sqm. ( treated bamboo structure).

I think they use it to maintain high humidity for the plants and to keep insects away. Also some crops cannot handle the harsh direct sunlight that exists in the tropics.

Tomatoes basically are self pollinating and do not need insect pollination. Gentle shaking of the branches is really all they need to transfer pollen from one flower to the other.

Unlike in Ireland, Its too hot in Kenya to grow bountiful tomatoes outdoors. They don't use aquaponics because it isn't low key enough for Kenya. Aquaponics require constant electric supply which is a hindrance.

Nice video. I see you have a large metal water tower/tank, this is also a good idea for small gardens and sharing between close gardens with others, such as a community garden. Perhaps a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and valve for a flexible hose would be good for small gardens, rather than trying to lift a heavy watering can/sprinkler all the time.

Using a pickaxe to make the bed is easier and faster than the shovel. This is how we do it in Vietnam. The netting on the greenhouse is a different style than in the USA. It's hot in Africa and Vietnam. The net greenhouse served more as bugs protection for less used of chemical.

The universities all over the world should teach the principles and the research institutes of this world should investigate the underlying mechanisms of Sepp Holzer permaculture/agro-ecology. Sepp Holzer's agricultural system beats conventional/GMO farming in every regard: no factory farming, no chemical or genetic pollution, more production per surface unit, huge bio-diversity, extreme landscape beauty, intact and clean water household, no deforestation, no hunger, no epidemy of diseases, each place would have its unique plant varieties, and most important, food would become medicine, as food grown in permaculture is packed with nutrients and antioxydants. If the world adopts Sepp Holzer's farming system, we would live in a world of abundance and beauty. We could feed 3 times more people than currently live on earth. If agro-ecology prevails, the earth's biosphere will soon be regenerated.
Vive Sepp Holzer! Hoch lebe Sepp Holzer! 赛普·霍尔泽,加油!

I do know what I'm talking about and 100% control of squirrels is just not true, netting may reduce insects getting in, but they always get in and reproduce at a faster rate because they are cold blooded. The warmer it is the faster the life cycle, which means they become adults faster and lays eggs faster etc.
