    Jeremy Crawford just gave me the alcohol talk my dad never did.

      I grew up in a time where there was a "D&D Talk", but not really a "drinking talk".

    For D&D, I can imagine the scene from the original Highlander movie when Connor Macleod opens a liquor several centuries old and describes what was happening when it was bottled.

      Chris Housenick beautiful! I’m gonna use this for a vampire I have in my game that’s survived the blood war on Toril and is around for the new age of humanity.

    I think it is very important at session 0 to ask everyone if they are comfortable with alcohol at the table, and state "If anyone does not want it there, we don't ask why, we accept it without question." Alcoholism and trauma from alcohol is common, and the game is great to play with both wine and coffee.
    And if you can't enjoy the game without alcohol, either find a group where you can drink, or even better, some help with your drinking habits. (Not being judgemental here. Alcohol is a deceptively dangerous drug, and everyone using it should be aware of their habits.)

    Rules of any get together at my place.....
    1) if you have a problem with people drinking.... leave
    2) if you have a problem with people not drinking... leave
    and when I run a game....
    3) i only have a brief outline of what is going on in my game once the party has gathered, and i have just cracked my first beer

    Cannabis is a much more RPG friendly substance, IMO. Unless you enjoy running games for children, because that's what alcohol quickly devolves players into.

      I completely lose the ability to focus and pay attention on cannabis. I can barely even grasp what people are saying and end up falling asleep quickly. Personally I don't want mind altering substances, alcohol, weed, etc, at the table. The game almost always devolves into fantasy three stooges.

    My house rule for consumption of alcohol is that you can have a number of drinks equal to your con modifier without getting drunk. After that, each consecutive drink requires a Con save with a DC determined by the type of alcohol. For example, I've been eyeballing "elven wine" at around DC 10 + 3 per glass. Once you fail a check, you gain the "poisoned" condition, and if you fail a check by 5 or more then you vomit and probably pass out.

      If you don't mind a suggestion, I'd change the first limit to when you still do not need to make Con saves from the Con modifier to the Con Saving Throw modifier. This way it relates also for the characters that are trained on Con in some sort even with they are not inatly adept

    We play at the pub primarily cause they welcome us and our LGS is MTG centric and D&D isn't profitable space. It's been good to be able to have beers.

    Mordekainen's Lucubration is NOT Mordekainen's Lubrication =) but that drink is potent! yer welcome Pennyarcade. Also, the Inn of Bree, should be a drinking game. Look up "High Gravity Beer".

      @11:26~~I'd totally use the modifier: if a person has a higher Intimidation modifier then when they fail, they turn into a Mean Drunk, if they have higher Investigate they pass out, if they have...

    • @Derry_A_Deryni
      @Derry_A_Deryni 4 года назад

      hmmm, I'd rather have the consequences of being Intimidating or Charming or a lightweight, be a character flaw which as the DC to resist poisoning, even though it's "meta gaming" in a sense, that the other PC's can start seeing the fail about to happen.

    Our party had a cleric to the god of pain, and we had the ongoing joke that he got into character by drinking lacroix. (Because we all agree it tastes angry/painful)

    • @emdotambient
      @emdotambient 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, it can do that. But also, a drunk player having their character cast Speak With The Dead and then ask 5 questions has proven to VERY entertaining in the past!
      Q: "How do ... you ... how do you enter ... the ... temple?"
      A: "Use the door."
      Q: "But if you don't use the ... door how do ... how would you get in the door?"
      A: "Open the door and walk in."
      Repeat essentially the same thing 3 more times.
