      Why not? When you can do all of that in full medieval plate armor, jumping jacks included. He can walk around and move reasonably normal, of course he can go prone and stand up again. Is it sensible to do that? That depends on the situation and the use case for it.

      @@mephisto8101medieval armor won’t stop a rifle round

    • @mephisto8101
      @mephisto8101 10 месяцев назад +83

      @@Nach0s187 That absolute statement does not stand.
      If you talk about modern rifle rounds, then most likely a medieval breast plate is not protective.
      However, when firearams first came up they didn't pack the punch they had a century or two later.
      In these days it was very common for armorers to test the effectiveness of their plate by shooting it. There are lots of armor pieces still around from these times, where the armorer has done test shots on it and the plate has a sigil on it that this specific piece was able to hold a bullet. ("Beschusstest")
      However, technology for firearms quickly progressed and what was true in 1500 was no longer valid in 1700. Firearms became much more potent in this time and had better abilities to penetrate armor.
      Hence, we see a reduction in armor protection in latter times due to the progression of effectiveness of firearms.

      I'm guessing it's a cheap way to attach camouflage patterns or promotion-friendly liveries that is also applicable elsewhere on the suit, similar to helmet covers. In this way, they can maximize their ability to cater to whatever requests they might get from prospective testers. And they can re-style the exterior as needed for a given trade show / exhibition.

      There's a reason you only see this shit in video games. If it were affordable and practical the military would already be using them. But they would be both expensive and inefficient. Civilians never consider heat and the fatigue. Heat is an infantrymans worse enemy. Even just in training I've seen many men lose consciousness, have seizures, get brain damage etc. From heat. Almost died myself once... and that was with less shit on than this. It doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal to Civilians but that's because Civilians never put on 3 layers of clothes and carry 100 pounds in the summer heat walk 15 miles. It feels like your internal organs are cooking inside you, one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life lol. And a decent amount do die from it. You just never hear about it

    Neat. Looks like a Semi-Passive Exoskeleton. Good for taking extra weight & feeling like you are carrying less while doing so. Much cheaper than a fully powered model & also a lot easier to field.
    If the hardpoints are modular you can also change the armour pieces out easily. If they are cross compatible with standard armour is the question. This has DAP,neck guard,groin guard,a vest & plates. But not sure if it is built around being used with the exoskeleton or not. Both have advantages & disadvantages. Parts compatibility is always big,plus if they sell other standard gear they can potentially market variants of it as well for use with or without the exo.
    Additionally being able to use pieces of the suit with or without the exo is useful. My guess is that it would be not too hard to do unless the armour is all hard armour & needs a fixed mount. But attachment points for other gear is always appreciated.

    I love how they say "exceptional ergonomics and mobility" and don't show him moving in it, other than walking up stairs...and running...without the armor on. something I would hope he or even a physically disabled person would be able to do with an exoskeleton on. he doesn't crouch, or lean, or do any sort of CQC whatsoever, not even just manipulating a rifle. What a great showcase of whatever this is.

      14 years ago DARPA had an exo that could climb mountains, they even released footage. It was a failure. Too expensive, not enough range, too fragile. A John Deer Gator is cheaper, faster, more reliable, and carries more.

    Also this is modular to there are a lot of weaker spots since its mostly plates. It's a step to get to more futuristic armors so we will see how it will turn out in more rough tests

      well the passive exoskeleton is meant to take the strain of the extra plates so it should be fine, but yeah its mainly designed for building breaching and close quarters combat against active shooters.
