Really solid episode, thanks Andrea and Nate for digging in so much
Agree, this was such an informative episode
I would really appreciate if you could pull together a single video covering all the main questions about supershoes. I know you've covered most, if not all, of them in previous podcasts, so maybe this would just be a case of splicing together old sections of previous episodes. Off the top of my head, the main questions would be the likes of: how a supershoe works (or our best understanding at this moment in time - is it the plate, is it the foam etc.); are they beneficial for everyone; how to find the right shoe(s) for you; how to confidently identify if you respond to supershoes; how long they last/how to tell when the magic has gone; transitioning into a supershoe (either if you've never worn them before or if you're now realising you've been wearing the wrong designs)... there's probably more which I will kick myself for not including almost as soon as I hit 'Comment'...!
People fixation on words "carbon" next to shoe name - is the only reason companies get away with adding plates to every shoe in the line as a means to charge more
Nate: a few yearss ago my wife did a two day century event, a century each day. Anyway, a guy showed up on his eliptigo and did both centuries. ! A new challenge for you.
Shoe stiffness vs less stiff with footbed: the runner could alternate stiff shoe with another, less stiff shoe.
38:20 is there any actual science to support the claim that old racing flats gave equal performance to everyone? I have a hard time believing this is the case. Your body does not know carbon or peba, down the line you get more efficient if a shoe fits your mrchanics, so I would argue this applies to any type of shoe.
We're entering the shoe mod era 😂 you never know if the runner next to you has replaced the carbon plate with some AM titanium shit
What was the 5K time? 👀
In addition to the heart rate strap comment, I wonder if adding on the GCT balance, cadence, stride length, or vertical ratio data would be more sufficient in garnering which shoe is more efficient? I understand that there are many many factors not accounted for on a regular training run between two shoes, but I imagine if his vertical ratio for one shoe vs the other shoes showed a large difference, enough for him to notice during the run AND in the data, it surely should be enough to solidify his suspicions.
If the Neo Vista is like the SC Trainer v1 I might have to order one. Been waiting for something to replace it since New Balance didn't want to keep it real.
I think the mistake of only talking about the carbon plate for efficiency lies on the fact many record times on track were done with just a pair of track spike with minimum foam back in the days.
I’m torn between the neo vista and the ASICS superblast 2 for my first marathon in September. I might just have to flip a coin at this point!
Do physical therapists study engineering?
Since Andrea likes it, it is a buy.
This is the way
