As I got older I wondered why they didn't color the underside a sky-blue for camouflage; when you're on the ground looking up at it. TY for sharing! you motivated me to fix the Cobra F.A.N.G. helicopter blade that SOMEHOW snapped near the connector end. That was my favorite.
1. LOVED this toy. Had dozens of Joe vehicles and it was one of my favs. 2. Thanks for the tip with the painter tape, and I don't even work on toys. 3. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that never figured out the front of these. "Is that secure? Well, kind of." It stayed "kind of" for ever.
@@retroblasting I was just about to say, I think the tool is called smudger. You can find it in any of those kits designed for people who repair smart phones. Is made of plastic and it basically does the same thing as the screwdriver with painters tape on it. Hopefully they are durable enough to use it for this purpose.
I have straightend loads of toys, just put it in just boiled water and go slow pushing it back to shape. You can see me do this multiple times in my Star Wars restoration videos. Just go slow.
I love when old toys come back to life. We had a Rock Shot from Rock Lords that didn't work... Nothing was broken, I took it apart months ago and nothing was missing or broken, but only yesterday we managed how to put it back together having a fully functional toy in very good conditions! Whe had to disassemble the rewinding mechanism in all its separate pieces.
Great restoration video Michael, I agree restoring gi joe vehicles are a nightmare but when you're finally finished and it was a success it's very satisfying.
this was one of my favorites as i didn't have a lot of the bigger Cobra vehicles,so the C L A W and flight pod got a lot of use in my imaginary battles.
I always, ALWAYS, hold my breath every time you seperate plastic halves in your restorations, (the worse was with the Robotech Veritech) but the payoff is always great. I think the bent tail fin is a nice touch, a reminder that this is YOUR childhood toy. And those out of context clips are hilarious!
i remember first seeing the CLAW at Khols. i ao desperately wanted one. my friend got one and i was soooo jealous. eventually i got one and married it. cool to see it return in the later years and when i got one i noticed it was half the toy it used to be... literally!
Loved this video guys!! You had me on the edge of my seat when you were trying to prise it open!!! Glad you were able to restore a childhood toy that your Dad gave you. Now for some unknown reason, I'm craving a sandwich. See you soon.
Informative video. It is possible to repair the bent stabilizer by using heat from a hair dryer or heat gun. Just be careful not to melt the plastic. It just needs to be warmed up enough to position the stabilizer. This method also helps to reduce stress marks. In response to Rattler repair: it is possible, but risky. I did manage to repair both the front and rear landing gear.
I bet you could gradually repair that stress point with a blow dryer and a little pressure, maybe place a dowel or something between the two fins afterwards and let it set for a while?
Just sold a massive STAR WARS collection to a museum, and I do pity the poor fool that has to go through all that stuff, clean it up and restore it all back to new(ish) condition.I imagine he'll be doing this same type of work for the next few years to come.
Definitely! A good hairdryer is a valuable restoration tool: warming plastic to help straighten out bends and to remove, or reduce plastic stress marks; softening the glue on stickers, to help keep them intact during removal; and drying metal parts thoroughly after a clean.
Hey RetroBlasting! I just bought a couple of old Gi Joes and one of them is pretty messed up, and I was wondering how people send in there old toys to be repaired?
Great vid and longtime subscriber. I actually just obtained a Cobra Terrordome in a yard sale and its somewhat complete but has dirt on the plastic. What kind of products can I use to clean it without damaging the plastic?
Really like all your videos.. An im glad I found yalls channel awhile back.. Do you guys have any interest doin videos on Kenner Jurassic Park toys..??? Also if you got anytricks for MOTU Eternia track rails and more MOTU stuff id love to see it.. Also I really like ur intro.. i find myself singing it in my head..lol
Don't use painters tape... try the nylon pry bars for car trim & moldings. They work so much better with out damaging plastic. I grabbed a set from Habor Freight for cheap to do my restorations.
Have you considered simply using a heat gun on the bent stabilizer and bending it into shape afterwards?? It is a common tenchnique used by the wargamers to reposition the plastic miniatures.
Just an FYI for anyone watching this video and attempting the same or something similar on a toy that needs to be split/separated/pried : Use plastic spudger tools

Yeah, and there's apparently a better tool that's plastic. I placed a note over the section where I mention the painters tape.
Gracias!

Wish I had a dad that loved me like that. I have 3 boys myself and I make sure I listen to them. Dads are important.
+Nikki Seven all parents come with their pros and cons. My dad wasn't often very plugged in.
After 10 years, the GI Joe PSAs are still the best thing on ebaum' s world
I have straightend loads of toys, just put it in just boiled water and go slow pushing it back to shape. You can see me do this multiple times in my Star Wars restoration videos. Just go slow.
I really enjoy seeing those GI Joe ARAH restores. Thanks
I had this.
Man, shape/details of the plastic parts brings back memories..

great restoration Michael. looking forward to another gijoe restoration.
The contrast of your anxiety while re-assembling and the excerpts from the GI Joe cartoon are meant to be humorous. Instead it's just awkward.
+awkenney probably about as awkward as this comment
this was one of my favorites as i didn't have a lot of the bigger Cobra vehicles,so the C L A W and flight pod got a lot of use in my imaginary battles.
Same here
love the new kitchen
+nicholas spence thanks!
I love the cobra POD :D
Nice you still have your old toys.
I admire your patience man!

HA!!! I do not think that any kid ever figures out how to set the front wheels into place correctly! Great video man!!!!!!
i remember first seeing the CLAW at Khols. i ao desperately wanted one. my friend got one and i was soooo jealous. eventually i got one and married it. cool to see it return in the later years and when i got one i noticed it was half the toy it used to be... literally!
good work mike as ever i never had the cobra claw as a kid but i do remember it from gi joe the movie the animated movie not the live action one
I love your restoration videos! Can't wait for the next one!!
Thanks James!
great job
Loved this video guys!! You had me on the edge of my seat when you were trying to prise it open!!! Glad you were able to restore a childhood toy that your Dad gave you. Now for some unknown reason, I'm craving a sandwich. See you soon.
+Matt Leuty thanks Matt!!
Another Great Video Thanks!!!

Can you do a spotlight vid on the Cobra Trubble Bubbles? Loved those.
I never had a CLAW but it's a cool little vehicle!
whoa your channel is one of coolest ever on youtube
hope you would talk about the gi joe cartoon
+riderbuzz thanks!
no problem keep up the great work
Still got mine in the ol'toy box.
The whole time you were trying to split it apart I was thinking, "Use a guitar pick".
Holy crap, Larry's everywhere.
for a small vehicle it had a lot of nice details. it was prone to breakage due to heavy play.
Have you guys ever tried using a heavy guitar pick or a plastic prying tool used for opening iPods/ipads and iPhones?
Holy Crap! That's my toothbrush!!!
ur dad sounds awesome
I had this as well...
you should do a video on how to repair the landing gear on the cobra rattler.
I'm no magician.
I bet you could gradually repair that stress point with a blow dryer and a little pressure, maybe place a dowel or something between the two fins afterwards and let it set for a while?
Sounds possible....and tedious as all get out. HAHA

What do you like to collect more? Star Wars or Gi Joe? Or do you like to collect some other toy line?
+CleverStudio I don't have much left to collect from Star Wars. I don't collect GI Joe much lately except various parts
+RetroBlasting oh, that's impressive that there's not much more for you to collect
MY dad came home with some sort of Battle Star Galactic fork lift. I wanted a Colonial Viper...
Great vid and longtime subscriber. I actually just obtained a Cobra Terrordome in a yard sale and its somewhat complete but has dirt on the plastic. What kind of products can I use to clean it without damaging the plastic?
A little heat from a heat gun will straighten out that top tail fin. I did it with a night raven and it work out well.
Have you considered a heat gun to straighten the tail fin. Slowly does it, but would probably work.
I've always found a cheap kitchen knife as a good separator. also, a dime or a guitar pick can also work well.
now I want to find my C.L.A.W. I never had cobra Commander tho.
+Retroblasting Will you ever make a video on how to spot knockoff transformers?
Awesome. I owned one of those foam gliders- not exactly durable specimens!
where did you get the t-shirt at ?
+nicholas spence eBay seller
Did Hasbro invent the "swivel arm battle grip"? And is there any lore known about Hasbro's choice to use rubber connectors for the torso?
+Tim Hammack well Mego was using that construction back in 1979 for Buck Rogers
you can heat the plastic fin with hair dryer or heat gun gently pushing it back into place
I had one of those! It broke when the dog stepped on it.
if you save the old parts you can get another one an create a custom battle damaged version

The wheels come out easy. Dont worry

Perhaps that StarCom obsession could be translated into a Retroblasting review / restoration? Hmmm...

Pork Chop Sandwiches!!!
pork chop sandwiches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy Bell you Hurd of Kung Fu well getting ready for pork chop toy story 2
Plz talk about potf
buy/borrow a heat gun and *CAREFULLY* use it and a metal straight edge to 'flex' the tail fin straight again
Please send me all your broken Gi Joe and Cobra toy parts that you don’t need so I can build some custom Frankenstein stuff. Thank you!
Yeah, let me just get right on that.
this is a wierd one because your replacing half the toy so its not actually your childhood toy anymore.....just half of it.
