- "We're building an airport", Monsignor James Horan told Jim Fahy of RTE News in 1981. "And I hope the Department of Transport doesn't hear about it. Now don't tell them ... We've no money, but we're hoping to get it next week, or the week after."
The extraordinary true story of a 'simple, country priest in a hurry' with a dream to build an airport on a 'foggy, boggy hill' in County Mayo, brought to the stage for the very first time.
What a disgrace that the airport doesn't bear this great man's name.
Father Horan - a great man and an Irish folk hero!
It really is amazing what he achieved in constructing this airport in very difficult times. Knock is vital for the West of Ireland, long may it be a success. A great story.
A fantastic Irishman and a great loss to the country on his passing. It’s amazing what people of great resolve and conviction can achieve. He literally moved mountains. 👍🏻
If that man only knew that by 2023 his airport would have welcomed, hundreds of thousands of passengers, celebrities, the holy father pope Francis and the US President (& Vice President in 2016!) - SUPERB!
My favourite airport in the world because I wouldn't be home half as much were it not for it. No fecking about either as 5 mins after rocking up you are through security and in departures
A Credit to all involved
