To be honest, I was quite hesitant at first about whether or not to make this video. There are many behind-the-scenes aspects that made me wonder if it was really necessary to share, or if I should just keep it to myself. I was also concerned that it might make me seem less professional. But I decided to put those worries aside because I thought sharing this might not only be an interesting topic, but also a way to build a stronger connection with you all. It could also provide some insights into language learning while giving you a heads-up about my future content plans. I hope you enjoyed watching, and feel free to leave your thoughts :)

Your thoughts are valuable and important. We can now understand who Miss Vicky truly is without resorting to personality tests. Although there's no cure for overthinking, even about simple things, you're doing great. In fact, I think you're better at managing this than I am. That's why I enjoy writing poetry-without it, my mind would definitely take a rain check. Maybe you're a low-key poet yourself. But since you're journaling, I think you're on the right track. Lastly, I've been exploring various Korean teachers on RUclips, and you are by far the most eloquent. Your teaching is clear and easy to follow, even for a dumb-dumb like me. Especially with grammar. You've used so many notebooks for this, so now I understand where all the notebooks in the world went! 😅 I have benefited immensely from being your student, and I appreciate it very much.

Not many Korean teachers speak English at such a high level. Korean and English are not my native languages so I feel like I practice both of them while watching you haha. And besides usage of English in your videos you always manage explain so well EVERY detail or give a proper response to our questions. These facts already make your channel so unique among others. I always have no questions at all after finishing watching your videos and it just makes me want to return to them after some time again and again. And I would LOVE to see immersion type of video! It can be hard to find a balance between that and using logic/planning to keep you on track. And I love that you're talking about ways to use immersion to learn. Am a beginner I have found that I learn a lot more vocab in immersion. Because when you're trying to remember the word your mind remembers where you learned it from and so it's like a snap shot. Plus, instead of learning a lot of words you might not use you get to learn words that are a lot more helpful. Plus, when am learning and enjoying it I tend to remember more .

I've been learning Korean for almost 7 months already and I could still vividly remember how distressed I felt when I first started learning it 'cause they said that you can learn 한글 for only a day and I'm still learning it even after a month passed! But your videos helped me a lot, especially when I was learning 받침 (which is the start of the nightmare of all Korean learners, if you know what I mean hehe)
That was the first time I encountered your channel and from then on, you became one of my go-to 선생님 whenever I'm learning Korean! I admit that I wasn't planning on studying Korean seriously at first because I'm the type of person who easily gets tired after doing sth for a few days but guess what? You're the one who made me want to continue learning the language! It's because of you that even though I struggle so much learning the language, I'm still not giving up because I know you got my back:)) And although I know that I still have lots of days, months, or even years to spend learning Korean, I just know that it'd be fun because you're with me. 빅키 선생님 때문에 제가 아직도 한국어 배워요. 정말 감사합니다 빅키 선생님. 우리는 할 수 있는 걸 같이 압니다. 화이팅! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ (Sorry for the wrong grammars hehehe)

I totally agree with what you said that a teacher who doesn't know the learners language is exponentially more helpful. When I was learning English my professor spoke my native language(Spanish) but honestly at the end was never ever able to communicate in English or even do correct writing even having tried different professors who also speak my native language. It was until I switch to and only English speaker professor that I learn to communicate fluently and was able to express my thought/feelings correctly. One of the things that I love about your channel is that you provide Korean subtitles and thats makes it so more useful than having English subtitles. Thank you

I've gotten to an advanced level in Korean using a comprehensible input approach, and I wish I had more easy input content back when I started. It will be great for other learners who are currently at the beginner and intermediate level :). it's cool to see its value catch on in the mainstream more recently with more channels incorporating it more often.

WoW! That is quite a video. I very much enjoyed your description of how you came to develop the more immersion side of teaching. I have only just started learning Korean and am still having trouble with the sounds (and hangul sound changes). Still, I know from Finnish that full "learning Finnish from Finnish" is in practise with some teachers. The content they make is videos about any subject where they have Finnish as subtitle and sometimes also English as second option. The trick is that for both Finnish and English one should be able to switch them off to train the ear to the native sound. That would be the only remark I would have on your video: the English is not a regular subtitle, it is burnt into the video. You cannot switch it off. Having said that, I really enjoyed your video and might even import it into my learning tool, that is able to import both sound and Korean. The level is too high for me, but at some point I might be able to use it. I really hope you make a lot of pure Korean content on several levels of ability. I even deem beginners level (after understanding hangul) possible and useful. Thank you very much for your video!

I think making immersion content is a great idea, I much prefer immersion over tedious grammar study. It's more interesting and you naturally pick up the grammar and vocab with time over exposure. I will of course look up vocab and grammar as I immerse but it's just a quick 30 seconds check of what a grammar point means then back to immersion.
Please consider providing a transcript with immersion content, reading and listening together is such a great way to study.

I’m glad you shared your thoughts, always happy to learn more about you. When starting learning Korean at first, I think these “explanation”, “fluency in English” is important and that’s what drew me to your channel. You make grammar less intimidating and easily understood. (Honestly I don’t I think I would continue learning Korean beyond Hangul if it wasn’t for you. ) But yes, after a certain level, less and less english/native language is needed. (I think this was my experience when learning English as well)
I’m looking forward to your immersion content! Actually your podcasts (and this video too) are already part of my immersion content to learn from. I would listen to them again and again. I would definitely enjoy more videos of you speaking in full Korean doing/talking just about anything. :D
PS: It's not that important but thank you for putting the Korean subtitles this way, because then I could download it easily. I used to retype the hangul one by one from your podcasts. Which is OK too, I could take it as a reading/typing exercise. ^^

Thank you for sharing your worries and puting eng sub. I think one of the criteria to be a good teacher is curiosity, curiosity to others countries. And no one is perfect, good to let go to teach too perfecty.
And it depends of the level, for beginner level who don't know much vocabulary, or grammar it's better to explain it in english too.
I'm french, i have a online korean teacher on italki who speak french too, he explains me a lot of thing, grammar, vocabulary but also korean culture and we practice a lot speaking.
At first, i can't really speak korean but i like my teacher because at the beginning of the lesson, he speak with me in korean and he forces me to speak in korean haha it was helpful because i learn some words thanks to him.
I also took lessons from korean teacher who speak english but not french on italki, and i remember i took a korean teacher but i didn't know she can't really speak english, we just play a game with vocabulary but i didn't understand all at all haha.
Like your said, it's good if we have a higher level to communicate full in korean and practice korean speaking etc, i'm intermediate level now, i can speak in full korean but my level isn't intermediate yet but not beginner too, it's between so i want to practice more my korean speaking skills.
But for beginner learner, it's harder to communicate and understand each other.
I discover you by chance on youtube, your video were helpful for me, but now i'm on intermediate level and i find others channels to help me to understand specially more intermediate korean grammar but i like your channel it's good to learn basis with you.
I remember, i like your pronunciation video with korean rules, a long video but it was helpful and i also saw your video about the differences between 은/는 and 이/가 thank you

Wow, I was going to write you a letter but I see you came to the same conclusion, except that the old ways of teaching were not wrong, but rather necessary for beginners to take the inital leap into it. Looking back at the earlier content, it's like we have evolved at the same pace (i.e. both as teacher and student). So much so, I was going to say this... I find it better to learn Korean from Korean itself these days, or as you call it Immersion. I've found the lessons from GGomi really helpful to accomplish this. Consider this for a moment; if I solve my own thoughts in Korean, by thinking that way, I'm going to use the language more. When I watched her classes, even though it's repetitive and how she adds more words into the sentence, I remember hearing what she says, even though I didn't understand it at first I could remember the sounds, and eventually understood them. Anyhow this is an exciting new change... I'm looking forward to seeing how this will unfold... thanks again for all the lessons, the old ones are still great, but now hopefully we can both (i.e. teacher and student) take it to the next level! :)

My first Korean teacher spoke my native language and we ended up speaking in Greek all the time. My second Korean teacher was American so we ended up speaking in English all the time. Neither could help me with my accent or to feel more comfortable speaking Korean. And same as you, when I was a kid I learned English with a native English speaker who couldn't even speak or understand a single word in my language. But it was probably easier to learn things too back then cause now I decided to quit fooling myself that I'll ever be able to speak or understand Korean the way I'd like to.
Anyway, just wanted to say, I think your instincts and way of thinking is right about this 😊 Keep in mind that burnout is easier sometimes when we're in control of ourselves, if we have perfectionist tendencies so definitely watch out for that too! ❤

빅키샘 감사합니다. 맞아요! I’m at a point in my Korean learning journey where I feel stuck or stagnant and I think it’s because I don’t use the language in a natural way and need a language partner to have real life conversations with and to force myself to express myself in Korean in real time. I hope your new immersion content will help me with that. 기다릴 거예요..

I am enjoying this video, but could I make a small suggestion? Could you raise the camera so we can see your face or at least your mouth? Your speech is very clear and you speak just a bit slower than normal spoken Korean, making it easier for us to hear each syllable and how one flows into the next, but I for one would like to see how you articulate each sound. One of my goals in learning Korean is to master the Korean sounds instead of using English analogs. I want to really say the ㄹ and not a R(L) or L(R), ㅅ and not S or SH, and ㅓ and not... well, sometimes OH, sometimes AH, and sometimes managing to hit ㅓ but not knowing what I did right. And watching people say those sounds (especially when they say them as clearly and as measured as you do) helps a lot... at least it helps with lip, jaw, and some tongue placement as well as breath control... and some of the rest will start to follow from getting that part right.
Of course, I COULD ask some of the Koreans I know to talk at me while I watch or ask if I can watch casual conversations... But honestly, I would feel a bit creepy doing that and fear that it might make people uncomfortable. You, on the other hand, are talking into a camera and don't have to put up with someone sitting there face to face, staring at your mouth while you talk.

I almost never comment, but today I felt the urge to do it! first of all I wanna thank you 빅키 선생님 for everything! I admire your effort to make us learn korean as much as possible, I now notice how you give your everything on this channel and the idea of korean immersion content is amazing, it gives me the motivation to restart my korean learning journey, out of topic but I know your channel for a long time I guess since 2020 maybe.. but I didn't have a good fluency in english at that time so I had a hard time learning korean here on youtube and it was around 2022 when I finally could have a better understanding of english as my second language and then I thought I could start korean but I was wrong about that when I realized that my mental health was falling apart because of personal problems then I had to take a break from learning korean and now that I feel better I wanna be able to restart my korean learning journey and I just hope I'll not fail my plans this time so I'm very excited to restart learning korean with your upcoming lessons ❤ once again thank you for everything Vicky I'll keep supporting you here from Brazil!!! ❤❤❤❤

I'm confused. How or when should I use ㅂ and ㅍ? when ㅂ is both p and b (middle sound). Ex. 부산 it should be Pusan but why is it pronounced as Busan? How should we be able to know if we should use ㅂ or ㅍ for p? I hope you can enlighten me.

선생님 공유해주셔서 감사합니다. To quote the Bard, "This above all: to thine own self be true." 선생님's honesty is always very endearing, so thank you for sharing. As learners, we trust you to guide us, but we should do the heavy lifting. First and foremost, you should make sure you're having fun because that energy is infectious. Speaking for myself, I look forward to future challenges and more immersion content! So, as depicted, Let's Rock!.......meow.😹💪🤘🔥

i trust you and i hope you trust yourself to know what's best for you. im not sure if you meant the title to be clickbait-y but if you fully meant it: i don't think you were "wrong" about anything. you made content that helped (and still helps) plenty of people and now the new content you'll make will keep helping people! you're going through a learning curve which is a good thing!
you inspire me to keep pushing and learning even when it's hard - i respect you so much for it. i'm working hard to learn grammar and vocab so i can participate more actively in your live classes.
speaking of... i would appreciate some live classes that are for A1 low beginners.. 😅 but i appreciate any content regardless
anyway, i hope you're happy and healthy, take care of yourself, and have a nice day 😊💖

haha I'll just take it as a compliment that you enjoy the way I teach. I can speak some Chinese but not very fluently, and I know very little Japanese, so I don't think I'm qualified to teach both languages :)
