    Big Bend National Park is quite different from Yellowstone, but I still had a fantastic time photographing wildlife in the deserts and mountains of Big Bend. Hope you all enjoy :)

    If you find yourself willing to travel for amazing wildlife photography, you should really consider Chicago for it's bird wildlife. Yes Chicago. We are ridiculously spoiled with bird wildlife here. Everything from falcons, to hawks, to herons. I go out shooting birds almost daily and almost always come back with amazing photos.

      @@wattswildlifephoto I’ve lived in Chicago for a few years now and have been surprised at the mostly year-long photo opportunities, albeit mostly for birds. Ducks and owls can be found in fall and winter, spring migration each May is great, summer brings grasslands and insect macro, and the cycle repeats. It’s pretty tough for mammals though

    Great video as usual, and a very truly unique location!
    May I ask, when doing the video with the 500mm f4 mkii, did you use a tripod or do it handheld and stabilise in post? I’ve been seriously considering this lens to pair with the R5 and wondered what it was like on the video side, and how well it works with the IBIS?

    Big Bend is one of my favorite National Parks that I have visited. Watching this video brought back a lot of memories from when I was camping and hiking out there in 2019. During that trip I was shooting with a Canon 6D with a kit lens and got shots that I thought at the time were pretty great for just learning photography. I was fortunate, or unfortunate depending on how you look at it, to walk up on a black bear and her two cubs while I was on my hike back on the Window Trail. No shots of them all but I've got a pretty good blured picture of Mama coming down the trail to see what I was doing while I was in a panic.
    I feel like 3 days is a great short trip for that place. You can easily spend an entire week out there exploring. Hope you have a checklist of new sights you want to explore next time you're down in Texas. The border crossing was closed when I was visiting so I didn't get the chance to go into Mexico. I've been thinking about taking a trip back out there and you have definitely reinvigorated it with this video.
    The AirBnB looks incredible. It definitely beats sleeping out in the August heat! I'll definitely forward that to one of my aviation friends. As for the name of the mountain there is so much history out there that you can pull from. The Jumanos are a Native Tribe that early settlers encountered and I think it would be appropriate to have a mountain named after them. I'll throw that into the bucket. I don't see a problem with naming Mt. Adam either.
    Lastly, I hope Prada Marfa didn't scar you too bad. Its kind of artsy over there.

    • @wattswildlifephoto
      @wattswildlifephoto  Месяц назад

      I’m glad you enjoyed! It really is such a unique place. Cool experience with the bears! Thats the same trail we were on looking for them… we saw so much scat there. I could definitely go back and explore more, both in Big Bend and in surrounding parts of Texas. I’d love to catch the bluebonnet bloom in the areas where it really pops off, that would be amazing to see.
      It was a very nice house! Adam went above and beyond. The park was amazing, but even just staying at the house was worth the trip.
      Haha, Prada Marfa was definitely weird, but I came away relatively unscathed 😂

    Home Run! Loved the video! I love the southwest. I lived in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area of Arizona for 4 years back in the mid to late 90’s before moving to Missoula in 99. I never got to the border (closest I got was Tucson). One of my regrets is not going to Mexico when I lived out there.

    Javelina has a reputation for being temperamental, and have occasionally charged when protecting young. A year or two ago a hiker in AZ got their leg broke by one. The ones in the park are probably much more use to people.

    Borders exist in every country across the world... they are protected and secured to keep the ones who mean to do harm from gaining entry! It affects wildlife yes, but the lack of also affects human life.
