    I went off on a tangent with the last comment but what I meant to say was that I am happy to learn German home cooking recipes, never mind high-end restaurant fair, that's not what I am interested in. Thanks for sharing your German recipes with everyone 😊

    Nice video! I like that you mention different ways to make a dish depending on what you have on hand. You actually teach people how to cook not just fallow a recipe. I love your videos and it is nice to learn about German cooking and food. I saw merengue on you counterattacks few videos ago. They made me remember a German lady that I knew who made Charmann rings? They seemed similar to merengue cookies but had a firmer texture with more crunch. Is there a certain type of German Merengue Cookies?

      Thank you, Wendy! I really cook a lot of meals depending on what I have on hand. You are a good observer! Also finding the meringues 👍😀. What you couldn‘t see though, was that there are chopped chocolate pieces in them 😋. I don‘t think our German Baiser (that‘s how we call it) is made differently from the recipe I found here. It‘s 6 egg whites with 250g of sugar and a pinch of salt. Differences in texture might occurred depending on how long the egg whites were beaten. They can be over or under beaten. They are just right if you can turn the bowl upside down and nothing falls out. As mentioned, I chop some chocolate (dark or semi sweet) and add these carefully before shaping and baking. It‘s like a taste of heaven! I might make a quick video about that one day.

      I agree she teaches and uses fundamental techniques as in the roux making and using the chicken cooking broth to thin the sauce, like the way she can change the recipe as she cooks like you can add or omit sour cream or add sweet cream and explains why and how a recipe like this can be varied with different ingredients.

    Wonderful recipe. I loved how the egg yolks changed it. I never tried that before, but I will now. I just wanted to say that chicken pot pie really needs cubed carrots!

    I don’t use Worcestershire sauce for chicken, I use nutmeg for this cream sauce along with chicken stock & white wine. I’ve never used egg yolk, I’ll use some next time, sounds good. Your stock looks delicious!

      I have more recipes on the blog, i.e. the potato salad. I have covered the dumplings from rolls, too, but haven’t made potato dumplings, yet. I will probably publish the next video on Monday. I haven’t had time to edit it, yet, and will be on the road today. It will be about potato pancakes.

    This recipe reminds me more of chicken à la king rather than pot pie since the mixture wasn’t put into a crust. Delicious variation for the filling.

      That is a little difficult. The whole cooking with filming takes a lot longer than usual cooking and with a whole meal I would have to switch between kitchen island and stove a lot. But you can often find suggestions on which food to pair on my blog. So you just need to look up the different recipes and combine them.

    If you don't have Worcestershire Sauce, a good substitute is actually Soy sauce, the difference being Worcestershire Sauce has a bit more vinegary taste to it but you have already added vinegar and lemon juice so I don't think this will be an issue. I have signed up for your newsletter :D

      Soy sacue is very salty in the US, I would recommend using a "low sodium" soy sauce if you substitute.

    Have you ever shopped an Aldi grocery store? It has many German foods there, you may find ingredients that you’re use to having in Germany

    • @MyGermanRecipes
      @MyGermanRecipes  5 лет назад +3

      Yes, we have an Aldi here. Aldi stands for "Albrecht Discount" and is a German company. I go there a lot to buy German things like Sauerkraut and chocolate. Sometimes they have special German products (usually around Oktoberfest time) which they usually don't offer. Look for the Peanut Puffs, then they are addictive :-). I also love the Nurenberger saussages (the small brats).

    Just a tip for you, using a wooden cutting board is much easier, its more hygienic as many kinds of wood have natural antibacterial properties and in the case of plastic, you can't see it easily but every time you cut into them you are creating micro bits of plastic that go in your food and also the micro cuts hold bacteria easily and lastly the wooden chopping boards are much better for your knives, they will stay sharp longer. Also when using any light chopping board regardless of its material, one tip is if it's sliding around, you can put a damp t-towel underneath it and it will stick and stay still for you, makes for easier and safer cutting.

    I've been looking for a recipe that my grandmother used to make. We called it Popeye, it was like a beef and gravy dish with like fat, irregular, squarish, homemade noodles. I have found something that looks similar from Google called "German pot pie". Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? Lol

    I have a slight memory of the difference being between green and white asparagus being that the white was kept in the dark throughout its growth?

    • @MyGermanRecipes
      @MyGermanRecipes  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, that is absolutely correct. It's the same plant, just raised differently and the green version is actually a little healthier.

    Whenever I tell my friend from Germany that I am going to eat Spargel she always asks--Green or White? :-) Recipes looks Lecker! Vielen Dank!

    • @MyGermanRecipes
      @MyGermanRecipes  5 лет назад

      I just read an article about white and green asparagus and apparently the green one is healthier! I personally prefer the green one but for most Germans the white one is the queen of vegetables, probably because it is so difficult to grow and to harvest. The white one cannot ever grow in light so they must continually apply soil around it as it grows. Then it must be harvested very early in the day before the sun comes out. If you don't do that, guess what: You get green asparagus :-)
      We call the asparagus season the sixth season, the fifth is carneval!

    I am SO happy I found your channel, I'm a HUGE fan of Germany and the German people, they are SO far ahead of us in Australia in basically every way, the only thing we have better and this is very much subjective is our warm/hot climate :D Literally Yesterday we had our latest federal election and can you believe that the current government, liberal party actually campaigned against mandating new electric car targets and climate change action generally, supporting coal mining instead :S I would move to Germany if only my direct family would move with me, I am actually a dual citazen of the UK and Australia, I could perhaps move to Germany or Scandinavia if I wanted to, depending how Brexit turns out, which btw, I think the UK should stick with the EU.
