its easy to Ryde on others names like Randy Rhoads, etc etc, Rudy should write his own music instead of extort Kevin Dubrow for publishing money by demanding credits for songs (not a larger cut cause of his name as a hired gun) but credit!! plagiarism!
Glad to see another rock musician speaking kindly about Yngwie. He and Rudy are super talented players. Would love to have seen Yngwie when Rudy was in the band! However, I did see Yngwie, and he gave me a handful of his extra-thick white guitar picks that have his name on them. He didn't THROW them to me either... he actually handed them to me! I though he was very nice, and he definitely put on a great show that night.
I met Malmsteen after a show in Ohio back in the 80s and I said you've got a killer band sir , and I have never seen anyone play the guitar like you just did. He smiled and shook my hand and after a few seconds he said ' I dig your shirt ' , which was an old t shirt that had an iron on of the Incredible Hulk.
wattage2007 Yeah man. Rudy Sarzo is an anomaly in the realm of rock and metal musicians. There is zero pretentiousness or ego with him. A sweetheart of a guy that I don’t think I’ve ever heard him shit talk anybody. And I’ve never heard anyone shit talk him. There’s a reason he’s probably the biggest in demand bassists in rock and metal and has played with just about everybody. He has a great work ethic, one of the hardest workers. So easy to work with, and only adds to the value of anyone he works with. And he’s sober. Musicians would be well served to model themselves after him.
Rudy Sarzo is the Kevin Bacon "six degrees of Sarzo" - you can literally attach him within 6 players to literally hundreds of major bands. Sarzo has some of the greatest rock stories to tell, both sad and incredibly memorable. He has lived an amazing life and seems to be as genuine a guy as they come.

What a nice guy. It's also interesting to notice when we see these guys who have been in the rock business a long time and how the lifestyle affects them. Many of them look terrible after all the years of drug and alcohol abuse, aged beyond their years. Rudy looks like he hasn't aged a bit. *Besides his obvious talent and ability..., and always staying mentally and physically healthy and fit..., Rudy Sarzo has maintained a long and successful career by never ever never talking shit about any fellow musicians..., especially past, present, or future bosses... There is wisdom to be learned from this man..., not just his music...*
I had the pleasure of meeting Rudy Sarzo while he was touring with Dio in Copenhagen. I asked, "You've played with all the best guitarists, Rhoads, Cavazo, Campbell, Vandenberg, Vai, Malmsteen, Aldrich, Goldy. Who was your favorite guitarist to perform with?" Without hesitating, he said, "Randy Rhoads. Definitely Randy Rhoads. With Randy, it was always about the music first. He was a musician's musician. The money, the fame, the women, that all came after the music." I asked, "What about Malmsteen?" He laughed, "Oh, I don't want to talk about Malmsteen."
Different times can mean different answers. I think you have to consider how azimuth361 asked the two questions, one right after the other, along with the fact that they weren't part of an interview. Rudy being asked about Yngwie immediately after stating how Randy Rhoads was music first/bullshit later, may have made "what about Yngwie" seem more like "so what about Yngwie, was he an asshole?".
He's getting close to 70 now and i wouldnt be surprised if he lived to 100. I talked to him once (He's about 5 years older than me) and it was like talking to a younger (and very wise) youthful musician. What a fantastic bass player/musician/person and he's been just about everywhere.
Heartening to hear that a professional bassist sometimes needs to rely on tabs or sheet music -- or even having to resort to slowing down another artist's music -- to learn particular songs. I don't feel quite so bass ' guitarded ' now.
He didn't have a lot of time to learn by ear. He said that. He switches bands so frequently that it's impossible to learn a band's entire catalog in just a couple weeks. He did it anyway but tabs would be much easier for wandering musicians like Rudy to adapt quickly.
I saw rudy with quiet roit in 98 when i was a boy. I was on a rudy trip for the rest of the year at least. And with yngwie years later. He was just as awesome. He needs to be mentioned in all of these great bass player conversations.
I saw Rudy with Yngwie in a small club in Harrisburg Pa, fantastic night, must have been a stop between larger venues because there was only a few hundred people there, I was about 7 feet from the stage and caught 2 of Yngwie's picks!!!
So glad to see Rudy still rock n rollin,, met him s couple times he is a real cool guy. Ive always and still love Yngwie Malmsteen, if i looked and played like Yngwie id probably be that confident too
Rudy sarzo class act hands down 💯 I got to see him in quite roit @ magic mountain and the US festival 83 and then in 84 again beyond killer Bass player 💯🎸 love yngwie malmsteen 💯🎸🎸🎸 since the Steelers day's!!
Rudy is cool. He has made the best sound better, Randy and Yngwie. He has lifted up stellar talent like Dio, Tommy Aldridge, Rob Rock and Tony MacAlpine.
No wonder Rudy gets called by tons of musicians to work with them. Apart from his musicianship, his humble and positive and easy-going character must make it easy for many ego-bloated musicians to work with him. "Even His Jokes in Swedish Makes Me Laugh". that tells you a lot about Rudy.
Saw Rudy with Randy at the cape cod colisieum Aug 81, def lep warm up, then in May 82" Rudy & OZ, Randy was already gone. Didn't even have him 4 a year & Mr Rhoads still affects us all.
I think you could argue the point that Rudy could very well be the Yngwie of BASS guitar. Playing wise that is. Whereas Yngwie can come across as a bit of an ass, Rudy is one of the nicest and sincere rock dudes out there. All class.
But those are the dolts who pay stupid money for guitars like that. They want the people who can't tune a guitar without a tuner in there spending dumb money. It's the Sarzo's and players with money that would never consider it because they don't look at guitars like peon hacks do. It's a tool to them and they know there's nothing beneficial or logical about paying that much for a guitar...not when they can have one made, the way the like, that will put that production line ($300 back in it's day) guitar to shame for essentially free.
I would never have thought that playing with Yngwie would be fun, but if that is what Rudy says okay. I think considering the amount of personalities that Rudy has worked with, he can probably deal with just about anyone.
Eh. I've met Yngwie and he seemed genuinely more interested in meeting me than I was meeting him. That, and from everyone's opinion who's played with him, he's not a bad guy. Just because he drunkenly went off on a woman on an airplane in a dickish manner doesn't mean he's a miserable person to work with or not fun to be around. He's got an outgoing ego and does things like the rock star he likes being but I'd think he generally get's along with other musicians he working with and is an ok guy. He doesn't seem to me like a ball buster.
Rudy seems like a casual cool guy.. I have no idea how he put up with Quiet Riot.. he must have really worked hard at keeping his cool, and not punching out Kevin Dubrow.. and some of the other egotistical weirdos. I have no idea how he put up with all these jokers..
Michael Craig u know Kevin D was Randy Roads best friend.....He loved Kevin.....in the late 70s Van Halen and Quite Riot were L.A. best ever one was say 1 or both would get signed soon well Van Halen was 1st Randy had to go with Ozzy and leave his friend....Rudy had to jam with Kevin after Randy died it was kind of a healing
Michael Craig well after QR 3 he and Kevin parted separate ways.. Kevin ticked Rudy off on an interview, putting him down on national television, you could see the bad friction between the two.Carlos Cavaso however is nice and humble like Rudy.
Rudy is just one of those positive soul's that the world needs more of, period...

Rudy is a class act..
Haha Playing with Ozzy will get you CLEAN !! I love how everything he touched turned Platinum for a few years there...
Saw Rudy with Randy at the cape cod colisieum Aug 81, def lep warm up, then in May 82" Rudy & OZ, Randy was already gone. Didn't even have him 4 a year & Mr Rhoads still affects us all.
This dude is so good-looking and sooooooo talented.
0:44 the yellow Strat behind Rudy Sarzo is $ 58.995... Give me two please and keep the change !
He is the slash of bass. Because Rudy plays everything😂!
One of the charismatic bad ass bassist to pay on this planet
I cant believe Rudy is 72 years old this year (2022).
Well, how was it playing with Randy Rhoads?!
I think you could argue the point that Rudy could very well be the Yngwie of BASS guitar. Playing wise that is. Whereas Yngwie can come across as a bit of an ass, Rudy is one of the nicest and sincere rock dudes out there. All class.
i didn't know this guy was the bass player wearing that red cloth on the Ozzy band in the youtube video. :p
Everybody Loves Rudy.
He is a very nice man!
Rudy is in every band because he's a great player....that never talks shit about anyone, no matter how shitty they are. Take notes.
Sounds really good
Met Rudy at a Maiden show in Long Beach back in the 80s....he was/is a cool cat
Rudy never ages
Must not have been a partier.
@@jeffbauer3425 seriously
I love that no one had mentioned the $58,000$ guitar behind him... how...? who...?? what>>????
Why in the hell would a 58k guitar be hanging up for some idiot to come along and knock it off the wall... REALLY??!
Mark Norris I’m guessing they don’t just let any old Tom, Dick or Harry just waltz into the store
Because "you broke it, you bought it" is probably the plan.
Patrick Rooney really like everyone supposed to know that.
Have you ever worked with Sr Yngwie Malmsteen? Or is just your frustration talking ?
So what alnum is Rudy talking about with James Christian? I really want to hear that!
Love his work to .
I spent 32 years in Vegas. 1986 to 2018.
AND?
@@georgemorris4142 what does it matter to you? I'm sure there are more pertinent issues you can focus on...
Great hair.
Licking the bass keeps you young🎸😁
That’s his signature move 😛
Cool cat
what album were they talking about at the beginning?
RUDY IS VERY MODEST BUT I WILL SAY THIS, " RUDY IS A MONSTER BASS PLAYER & GENUINE GENTLEMAN" VERY INSPIRING AS A MUSICIAN AND A GREAT SOUL, AMEN 💜💜💜
The sweeds doesn’t like danish sarcastic jokes...I agree Yngwie is a funny guy...great interview 👍
super cool dude
