Having these value-oriented tournament rod brands is great for making the sport more accessible, but for all the excellent reviews, we have to wonder how many top casters will actually abandon their Zziplexes and Centuries for them.
Very well put together video, very detailed love watching your tournament cast. They look great value for money the way they built them looks interesting With the weave changes. Will they stand the test of time though. Only thing with them being a Chinese blank is you never really know what the quality of blank truly is unless someone's been over there and overseen the process. But great video keep them coming 👌
A much more sensible review than most I've seen. Others have been like some mass hysteria of ridiculous claims. I have cast this rod, not mine, it certainly is capable of doing what it was designed for. Is it a £300 blank....I guess only the layup can tell you that. The scrim on the butt. I'm sure test casters did their usual party tricks of casting house bricks and small children to push the blank to the limit. Interesting as always.
I saw you in Wills chat- i live in the states, on the Outer Banks NC- and surf fish all the time. Do you use a Shock Leader ? If so what pound test? Thanx - We use 50lb.shock leader,17lb. test line, with 8oz.weight, slip swivel,(fish finder,or Stinger rigs) 90gram wire leader(i think you guys call them "Trace" ) Nice casting,i like looking at different techniques, and see how ya swing the weight.
Great video Stevie! Thanks a lot for share it with all of us. What differences have you feel in front of the another casting rods that you use like su or ft
Can I ask as you're someone still active in the Tournament circle....has this blank ever been cast over 300 yards? It seems lots of UK casters are just itching to be the first to get past the mark with a Chinese blank. There are dozens of rods out there that can be bought second hand that have already past the 300 yard mark. All made in the UK. Century WR300, TTR, Komp SS, ZZIPLEX HST AND HST EVO, M427 AND M427SU, TRC. What is the big deal about this cheaply made Chinese blank?
Not to my knowledge. A few casts around the 290yd mark. As you know 300s really require good conditions. Yes defo loads of used uk rods capable. Its just a different option on the market.
@@djrmonix Not trying to disrespect you and the work you put into the films you make. I respect you as a caster. I just don't get this China obsession, I think Steve Harrison could have made a better blank if he'd worked with him. It's all about profit. Feel free to delete any of my comments, I just try to get people questioning things.
I have no intention of deleting anyones comments for having a sensible debate. Yes i did post a few vids about a cheap chinese baitcaster that cost £13 but the point of it was to show beginners you dont really need expensive well designed and researched products to cast far its mostly down to the user. Does a top end baitcaster cast further yes of course but most of the time in a fishing scenario anyway you can cast nearly as far on cheap and old gear. Ive n old mitchell 600ap here sounds like an air raid siren when you cast it, bushes no bearings, no mag, 1 piece spindle/spool its really only about 15-20 yards behind my top end reels. Actually will do a vid of that soon.
@@djrmonix No problem with that, most of us started out like that. I started out with Winfield tackle. I just think Jay Lee could have gone to Harrison, maybe he did but didn't like the profit margin? Harrison could easily have made a better blank. Century are leaders in the carbon fibre business, aerospace, motor sport, probably military too. He couldn't afford them. I just don't like his website when he makes out the Chinese are the best he could find......best profit more like.
it might not be cheaply made , the materials might be the same or better than other manufacturers ? they might all get there carbon from china , it probably boils down to the labour rate at which they are made , might cost 40 quid in labour per rod in UK , might only cost , 2 quid per rod in china , materials and manufacturing techniques might be the same who knows , Harrison's made rods , good rods at that and if they had been world class and deliver the distances everyone would use them , the tournament casting scene is a small one , nobody would make money from it , why go through all the building of rods and testing of rods at great expense only for guys to not use them , you have to applaud guys who are brave enough to give this sport some choice ,

@@djrmonix thank you so much! Loving watching and learning from your videos!
Let me know here if you get a reply he is very busy.
@@djrmonix what would be the latest and greatest tournament rod that they make?
@@dragpula1587 the one in this video the xt435 but they also do xt435 lite which is very capable also.
I wonder what people who enjoy sport casting overseas would think if they used Japanese rods 🤔.

Great for getting a bait out where it needs to be, but no good for distance casting comps, which I enjoy!
