Eons ago a local mall hobby shop had glass display cases in the back that had some dioramas on display. One of them was the Quad Tractor + Limber and 25lber. It was a desert scene with a single crewman taking a leak on the back tire of the tractor. 😄 Simple, effective and stuck with me since then. I've got the kit on the shelf behind me and this video has inspired me to bring it to my "next build" position. Cheers.
Thanks. Yes, they're a good base for practising a little bit of detailing and some minor scratch building. I have the Tamiya Sd.Kfz 7/1 in the stash which is another oldie but goodie. Looking forward to building that.
Pva tarp was ingenious 10 points for that one. Definitely going to try that. Awesome build mate loads of life left in that kit as you demonstrated. Top man 👍🇬🇧
Wow! I really like the technique you used to make the tarpaulin. I have this kit in my stash and now I'm seriously considering starting it this weekend.
I built the kit twice. Once in 1984 and again in 2007. It's fun and simple to build and you can do so much with it with any details you want to put on it. I love that kit.
@@ModelNerd I love many of the older kits. Many of them have some good memories from my time in the 80's when I was a teen. I built so many models back then.
A very nice little vignette....really enjoyed the build and your commentary. Will be looking forward to some of the other builds you mentioned at the end so will be keeping an eye out for that notification. Thanks as always for sharing your craft.
It's excellent work. It's Tamiya's old vintage model. Also I ever been built it when I was a boy. I'm so glad that you built it and made it to such as beautiful diorama. Thanks for uploading.
G'day MN, I saw this kit in my local hobby shop and didn't think it would be a very interesting build. After seeing what you've achieved, which is excellent, I'll be going back to buy this kit. I'll try to find one with the 25 lb Howitzer. A really good effort from you to make an ordinary, mass produced truck into a special, personalised version. I love that trick with the scale tarp. That is a stroke of genius and can be used in so many types of models. Thanks for this great video. Cheers, Bill Hobart, Tasmania
Thanks Bill, I appreciate that. Yes, I think I'm more likely to experiment with older kits like this and see what I can do. The one with the howitzer would be great if you can find it.
Mines needed a tone of work out the box! Really showed it's age! The new Mirror models Quad it stunning though I have built a couple of them ones recently!
Nice build. Can’t be sure wether you weathered the wind screen, but masks cut to the shape of the area cleaned by the wipers, with a very light mist of dust colour to unmasked areas makes a great effect ,
Like others have said, a great job with a older kit, there is mothing wrong with the older Tamiya kits, you have got yourself another subscrber, take care and keep safe.
I was going to say the finished result looks a bit “Mickey Mouse” but that sounds disrespectful 😂. The end result is very effective and was impressed with the making of the tarpaulin.
Another great build and the tarp idea was really excellent i will try that as i am building the same kit now, is there any chance you could remember where you saw that reference photo and could you please give me the link thanks from a loyal subscriber !!
Thanks mate - I'm glad you liked it. The reference photo would most likely be from www.worldwarphotos.info/ or the IWM photo archive (www.iwm.org.uk/collections/photographs). Good luck with your kit!
To be honest, I can't remember now. If I didn't mention it in the video, it might have been AK Real Colors SCC 15, or it might have been a mix of Tamiya XF-58 and XF-62.
I'm completely new to this hobby. All I can say is WOW!!! Reviewed some of your other models and they beautiful. Could you recommend a place or two to purchase WWII models? Since I am new to this hobby any recommendations (how to books, videos, etc)? Thank you for sharing this build.
Hi Andrew. Thanks so much for your comment - I'm glad you liked the videos. New kits for beginners? You can't go wrong with Tamiya kits - always perfect kit and a good balance between detail and avoiding too many fiddly parts. But there are a lot of other great manufacturers too - I particularly liked Takom. Their kits are more detailed and tend to have more parts, but I'd say their engineering is up there with Tamiya's. The first kits I bought when I got back into the hobby were Tamiya Su-85 and Takom's Mark I. Have fun!
Thanks. Yes, I have a stash of various bits and pieces - styrene sheet, off cuts of XPS foam, rigging line (for ships but I use it for aircraft), plaster, some static grass, and so on. The supplies generally last for a while and always come in handy! The brass tubes I originally bought for rigging on a biplane (which I still haven't built) if I remember correctly.
About 8 years ago , I was going to buy a real one of these. Guy just would not be realistic about the value. He thought it was in perfect condition. I knew I would need to take the body off to repair the holes in the chassis!. And someone paid the money. But it now sits rotting in a yard - untouched in 5 - 6 years.
Typical. Found a fairly original 13 cab Ford CMP 15 cwt. Needed full restoration, seized engine from sitting but it still had the oil breakdown lamps and all the bits and pieces. My friend tried to make a deal. He wanted $5000.00 or an equivalent trade vehicle for the boat yard. Best my friend went to was $850.00 from $500.00. No deal. The property was eventually sold and the scrap man came in for all the scrap metal including that lovely restorable CMP.
@@ModelNerd Scrap man won. Don't think they realized what they had. 2 CMPs went the same way in 1980 in Drumbo, Ontario. A farm was being sold and equipment auctioned off. The sale had been 2 weeks prior when I heard about it. Fellow who told me about it said the trucks didn't sell. Got a hold of the auctioneer who contacted the scrap fellow only to learn that no one had wanted the "old English trucks" so they put them into the crusher. Again, not realizing what they had. Makes you sick. Found a complete Ford 15ct 11 cab in Hawkesbury. Still in original paint but the shop hasn't gotten back as to what the owner wants to do. Still has the tarp top bows. If I ever got it, I'd just fix the mechanics and drive it as is, it's that original.

Cheers! I definitely enjoyed building this kit and would build one again.
Nice work. That grass mat is excellent. Tamiya were showing other manufacturers how to do it back in 1974.
They sure were! I have another one of these in the stash, with the 25 pounder and the Eduard photoetch sets for both.
It was nice to see you used the 1st Canadian Division identifier on the vehicle.
Fascinating how good such an outdated kit looks when treated with some love!
Thanks. Yes, they're a good base for practising a little bit of detailing and some minor scratch building. I have the Tamiya Sd.Kfz 7/1 in the stash which is another oldie but goodie. Looking forward to building that.
Just checked it’s a 1974 kit.
It might be old, but not really outdated. Many kits of this era -- from Airfix to Matchbox to Hasegawa -- were as good, or better, than many today.
I do love your attention to detail, definitely one of the best modellers around.
Wow, thank you. This is one of my favourite models actually :)
Beautiful model, and Holst 'The Planet's' playing in the background, one of my favourite pieces of music, sublime 👍
Thanks mate!
Pva tarp was ingenious 10 points for that one. Definitely going to try that. Awesome build mate loads of life left in that kit as you demonstrated.

Thanks Vasili!
50 year old kit! I bought mine in 1986, it was my first Tamiya kit and it was a revelation in quality
Crazy how good they still are
Wow! I really like the technique you used to make the tarpaulin. I have this kit in my stash and now I'm seriously considering starting it this weekend.
Thanks! It's a great little kit - I'd definitely recommend it for a weekend project.
I love the tarp idea :) :)

Thanks. I've got some 3D printed ones with even more detail for the next build :)
Learned a lot, thanks!

What an awesome idea with the PVA tarp. Looks great!!!
Thanks mate. Yeah, I'm really happy with how that turned out. I wish I could remember where I got the idea from.
That looks like a fun little kit. I might have to get one sometime.
Yeah, do it mate!
I enjoyed kitbashing this one a couple of years ago. Great Dio and nice work on the tarp.

This model very accurate and delicate ! British military vehicle famous longer used at present Myanmar still used for local bus!

I remember this kit with the 25 pounder gun. A great kit and a great job.
Thanks. Yes, the 25 pounder version was out of stock when I got this - but generally it is still out there and available.
I made the Quad with the 25 pounder over 40 years ago, loved building it, would have been happy if it had looked half as good as this.
What tamiya XF did you use for the green color?
To be honest, I can't remember now. If I didn't mention it in the video, it might have been AK Real Colors SCC 15, or it might have been a mix of Tamiya XF-58 and XF-62.
An outdated kit, that puts a lot of modern kits to shame. Lovely work
Thanks James
Very nice! I love it, I have one question, what type of vallejo paint you mix with white glue? Is it black cap or white cap? Thanks
Thanks. It was the regular Model Color paint (not Model Air). White cap.

I'm pretty sure it's the Tamiya plastic molds that are from 1972 , the kit is not it was just moulded recently using these 1972 molds
Yes, that's what I meant - sorry if I wasn't clear :)
if you can’t see an item, that means it’s a practice piece do your best with it anyway, if it’s not perfect who care, you can’t see it.
