That looks so much better! I've never seen this idea to pick up from the stitch below. Thanks so much for sharing! You could also go one step further. Most people clip the end and pull it through the last stitch, making a little knot that's kind of ugly. It looks smoother if you just clip the end and lift your right needle, eliminating that last stitch.
