NOT BAD JOHN MC. HOPE U WILL BE AS GOOD AS CHET, AS U R INCHARGE OF YR OWN MUSIC DESTINY. ANY MUSIC STUDENT WHO ASPIRES WITH CHET STYLE GUITAR PLAY WILL BE LIKE HIM. CHET MADE ME CHANGE MY WAY OF APPREC IATING- ENCHANTING MUSIC FOREVER. SO KEEP FIGHTING JOHN. U WILL BE FAMOUS SOON.
Great lesson here - you made an excellent video - Thank You! I was looking for a part 2 with more emphasis on the melody (that's the part that scares me - i already have a decent grasp on the rest). Thanks
Excelente lección. Preguntas: ¿Es muy difícil sincronizar la melodía principal y el acompañamiento? ¿Se debe "mutear" las cuerdas para acompañar? ¿Usar cuerdas flat o round? Gracias ☺️
It’s not very difficult to synchronize with enough practice. Play it slowly and gradually pick up the speed. And yes, Chet palm mutes the bass strings (E,A,D), and leaves the top strings unmuted (G,B,e) while playing. Hope this helps
Please help me! I want to learn "my guitar is my sweetheart " but can't for the life of me find any tutorials or chord charts online. Can you make a video on it??
This video lack of content. I’m confused when you said that Hybrids Picking not as good as Travis Picking when playing Chet’s song.I mean, in what ways Travis Picking excels? You only said the feel changes, but what kind of change? And is the sound warmer than Hybrid Picking or is the Travis Picking easier to control the rotating bass? If you don’t tell us the advantages of Travis Picking in detail ,why should pick users spend effort to learn the Travis Picking ?
Howdy. I think it would help to show a slowed-down segment so it would be easier to see exactly what both sets of fingers are doing. Also, isn't that a G-chord you're playing, not a G7?
JON, YOU ARE SIMPLY A PRO! ONE CAN SEE IT IN YOUR FACE, THAT YOU LOVE PLAYING GUITAR! IF YOU LIVED SOME WHERE NEAR SOUTHEASTER FLORIDA I WOULD TAKE LESSONS FROM YOU. CAN YOU P;EASE SHOW US HOW TO PLAY "BABY'S COMMING HOME" BY JERRY REED, THE WAY CHET ATKINS PLAYED IT...FRANK MOELLER
this was probably one of the most discombobulated lessons I've ever tried to follow. so the introductory into the picking you're told to place all four fingers except for your thumb and rest them on the guitar because you're only using your thumb . the very next step is the instructor just playing the melody along with it and telling you that's how it goes so do it. so there was absolutely no instruction without using all of your fingers. there was also no instruction on how in slow motion the picking was to go while using all of your fingers. and then you're on to part two of the song.
right, you need to stop and figure out the thumb, then come back. did you think you'd get alternating basslines ontop of chords and melodies in a single sitting? you need to figure it out and then come back to learn the melody. if you can't play the bassline alone and walk it around, you will never have independence between fingers and thumb. I think maybe you aren't at this level yet and should start with some simple slow country blues songs, which are fantastic, and will teach you chords under alternating bassline. these simple slow songs will be extremely difficult at first but you'll improve quickly from learning them before trying rag time and atkins stuff. this lesson is more for people that have been playing this kind of stuff and assumes you already have a bit of technique down
"travis picking" is probably what you should work on first, keep it really simple with open chords at first and get that chug going without thinking about it

what is the music at the intro? I like that technique
Love your versatility, you remind me of a young me LOL
i would like a lesson on chets deed i do
Esta bien, pero lo tendrias que haber hecho bien despacio y con la melodia
It's called thorough bass... alternating/ independent bass line.
Well, I can play cowboy open chords.. .So? How can I play like Chet? Ohhhhh, I CAN’T ! ! ! !
Lol why grab a tele when you got those hollowbody guitars on the wall 😆 either way great lesson.
Wow, that is what can't do, so retractable , may be i should learn many year more.😢😢
Hark! I do detect........a muting.🙂
Sure wish he'd shown how to play what he plays at the start of the video instead of rudimentary bass lines.
I'm with you, I know these bass lines!
Someone tag Tommy Emmanuel. This seems awful familiar. Lol.
there's a muting
