India has a long tradition of reading, especially among the urban middle class. We are intellectually curious. So from John Locke to Marx to Lenin to Hitler, we devour everything. India receives a lot of flak for not banning Mein Kampf. But I don't understand this outrage. How can one understand European history of the 20th century without studying Nazism and Fascism? Reading a book isn't an endorsement of the ideology.

By the way, Ian Botham is one of the 5 best all rounders of that time in test cricket. Others being- richard hadlee, kapil dev, imran khan, gary sobers.

Earlier there used to be 1 or 2 shops but now in my town around 30 or more, all over the town. I myself inform students to get these books from those shops or wait till the book fairs, in dec and in march. Why to spend 500 on a new book where you can get that for 250-300, just year old or two. May not be shiny but the cotent are same ,conidering engineering and medical and other courses doesn't change often. So are banking competitive books except current affairs. I never sold a book. I donated my old books who needed them and even gave 2 bags of books free of cost to a shopkeeper from whom i purchased at half price. Now he can sell them at 70 percent discount instead of 50.

I hold a honors degree in economics and then mba. At one time set my eyes on phd but financial and other problems came. But any way, you know- to me book is a living thing as it contains thr ideas, thoughts, priciples of a person. That persons may be dead but ideas, thoughts, principles never die. To me a person doesn't die when his/ her body is destroyed after death. They die in actually when we forget them. Forgetting someone means haing no memory of that person. When you forget a person, then everything associated with him/her is also forgotten. Everything gives you either pain or pleasure but books gives you knowledge. Everything else is destroyed and the feeling attached with those but knowledge never dies. The more you share, the more it grows. One can never remember what he used to wear when in school and what he ate but what he read in school can easily remembered even today. We used to have books published in my great grandfather era, 1930 or so. I started buying book when the book started from 18-20 rupees and my pocket money was 2 rupees a day. I had to save for 10 days so that i can buy a book, without eating my tiffin money for school.
