  • I swapped the turbocharger on my Volvo 850 T-5.
It turned out to be a bigger job than I first expected, due to an abundance of rusty old nuts.
This short video is for entertainment only.
Who spotted my mistake? The throttle cable should go over the bendy turbo pipe, not under it.
I also swapped the PTC valve for the later V70 variant with a wider outlet. I first explored the possibility to swapping them in my 'No crank' video previously.
    Thanks for watching.

I do miss the little hood release handle through the grille (RIP 1994 855T).

Haha funnily enough it's snapped off on my T-5 & I have to prize it out with my car key. 😀 It's a great security feature you know 🤫😉

@@850BRICK I do remember re and re my turbo to re-seal it. The kit was inexpensive and fixed the problem completely. The work involved however - you nailed it.

Says to me your turbo was original or at least in situ for a long long time. That's gotta be good, right!

Yeah it could well be the case. 👍

@@850BRICK I sold my 850r earlier this yr but love watching and hearing about everything fellow Volvo guys get into. I ended up parting with mine due to a new house and have since bought a V40 T2, but it doesn't sound like a Ferrari on full beans, but then not a lot else does. What an engine, mine had 180k on the clock on the original turbo and still pulled like a train!! Enjoy matey, Volvo 💕

    was expecting a 19t!!

Nah, I would only do that with the engine forged to back it up.

well stay tuned, mine will have a 19t on standard engine, but will run custom mapped 4.4. just need to sort clutch as sachs have stopped making single mass clutches for 850, no stock of 240mm clutches anywhere inc r clutch. so going to convert to dual mass setup, which will probably be better on a road car a single a bit un refined. @@850BRICK

I have a spare new R clutch sat on top of my fridge. I think I'm going to keep my T-5 standard. I was considering swapping my 850Rs k24 for a 19t though.

@@850BRICKAre you thinking about selling the R clutch?

    • @850BRICK

Not really. But I do believe their are aftermarket stage 3 clutch options out there as an upgrade worth considering.
