Hello, wolf pack. Today we get a surprise double review this Friday the 13th, where we analyze a good episode alongside a terrible episode. Here we take a look at the overrated piece of garbage Seance to see why it fails as an entertaining horror story. In this tale of suspense, Joey King talks with a one-legged, serial killer ghost.
The Haunting Hour is owned by R.L. Stine and the Discovery Family Network.
Thanks for the awesome review. I enjoyed my time on the show and the show won an Emmy that year !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thumbs up if you laughed at Joey King's hairstyle!
Wolf Entertainment I thumbs up to that. Thumbs up if you want the Temple Background to serve as the location for the Haunting Hour's "FINAL TEN" reviews (& the movie, alog with other Special Occasions and "FINAL TEN" Horror reviews; "FINAL FIVE" for the Nightmare Room). Cause much like Kirby's The True Arena, an intimidating background can set the stage for final momemnts to end things with a bang. :)
Hey, if you mention me during you videos next time, you got the Dark Black insignia from my Twitter Tweet now. Pick the one you prefer, and you can use the insignia when mentioning me in your videos. Preferably, I'd pick the 3rd image, the insignia / mascot only (without "Dark Black" Lettering), as the size of that image would not cram the screen (otherwise, in PowerPoint, a little resizing via the corners of the image and/or cropping around the insignia's rectangle wouldn't hurt). :)
Sorry. I'm just very excited! :)
😄
There is a simple way they could have made us like the other three characters: they could have invited Joey King after the prank. Like they laugh, but when she starts to tear up Naomi calms her down and invites her to watch with them. Then during the fun she wanders off to either use the restroom or to get snacks, then the rest of the episode could resume
And make Naomi more likable, just have it shown to be closer to messing between sisters instead of bullying. Also make the other kids less of jerks
We're not supposed to like them. Wolf has it wrong. We're supposed to hate them so we'll be glad when Joey King gets revenge against them and when Cyrus takes one of their legs.
I like your idea of having them show us the story instead of just Lexi telling us. That would have been better.
I don't think we're supposed to like Naomi and her gang of bullies. Otherwise, they wouldn't have written in Joey getting revenge against them in the end and then Cyrus taking one of their legs.
The bell ringing on its own was indeed a good scary moment, because that was the first hint that Cyrus was real and that he was really there to steal a leg from a kid.
18:02 She was young and inexperienced so she didn't know this was a bad idea. Also, she wasn't paying attention to what the bullies were doing so she didn't hear Dylan say that. She wasn't wearing a bikini anyway.
I think the bullies did hear Joey screaming, but they didn't know it was her. They thought it was some girl in the movie they were watching. They aren't very smart.
30:44 Now I'm confused. When did you become a fan of Best Friend Forever? Or the Alp from Red Eye?
I wouldn't say I was afraid of Joey's hair, but that wasn't why I liked the episode. I just liked that she got revenge against her bullies.
I like this episode. It's a "Revenge against bullies" story done right, as opposed to "Mrs. Worthington" which totally botched that concept. It could have been better: I wish we had seen more of Cyrus and I wish we know which kid's leg or took or if they all managed to escape. Still, it was good overall.
This is my least favorite episode of The Haunting Hour for the same reasons why The Headless Ghost is my least favorite Goosebumps book. It’s boring, unoriginal, has weak horror, is not interesting, barely shows the antagonist, and is filled to the brim with fake scares. Glad to see someone who hates this episode as much as I do.
Wolf Entertainment 20:17 Darth Vader: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
TheMultiverse 1 Really, how else could you react to idiot bullies becoming the main characters over Joey King?
Wolf Entertainment 10:10 Admiral Ackbar: "IT'S A TRAP!"
The Three Stooges
Niaomi: Moe
Tracey: Larry
Dylan: Curly
23:03 she never says that
Wolf Entertainment I guess you could say that Joey King is also the "Reverse Ariel Winter" as well. But unlike with the episodes featuring Bailee Madison, the episodes that starred Ariel Winter have perfect scores. Sure, Bailee Madison starred in 3 episodes, but only 1 episode didn't have a perfect score. But Ariel Winter does not have an episode that is lower than a perfect score, even though she only appeared in 2 episodes, 1 episode shy of Madison's episode appearancr count. In addition, both Joey King and Ariel Winter appeared in 2 Haunting Hour episodes each.
27:32 how I feel about this hunting episode

I feel like melody fox needs to stay away from bully stories.
I laughed my ass off when you called Cyrus Tommy Wiseau. Wouldn't it have been better if they actually got Tommy Wiseau to play Cyrus? The goofiness would've been complete that way.
It's hard for me to hear about a backstory about a villain who looks for human legs to steal without thinking about that story that Rachel Green tells about Phoebe Buffay's painting to scare Joey Tribbiani. Even that Friends episode was scarier than this.
Cyrus: Hi
Joey: Can I help you?
Cyrus: Yeah can I have a teenager’s leg, please? *shows axe*
Joey: Oh hai, Cyrus! I didn’t know it was you! *shows 3 stooges* here you go!
Cyrus: That’s me! Do you want them back?
Joey: No thank-
Cyrus: Here you go, keep the blood. Hi doggy! *pats your brother wolf*
Joey: your my favorite ghost!
Cyrus: Thanks a lot, bye!
Joey: Bye bye!
21:30 Let's not forget the Masterpiece Haunting Hour Story Arc & Nightmare Hour adaptation, The Dead Body arc. ;)
What other good Bully Episodes that we like because they get their karma shall we name out? >:)
Wolf Entertainment 6:19 And I thought The Cast was the last Haunting Hour episode with a Wimpy Kid actor (due to the Alien Candy review twist ending). I stand corrected.
This got the same rating as Mascot people. The same rating as Mascot.
That's what you get for having Mr. Young's brother fill in.
?????
Idiot Dylan is played by Brendan Mayer's (who played Mr. Young in a series named after him) brother.
Cool
14:43 Well Melody Fox. I will admit that the themes on Checking Out are pretty clever. But not this episode. This episode was just...meh.
Also, 15:56, why would big yellow waste his time slicing them up? Isn’t the classic way of killing them a much better punishment? Plus, he hasn’t eaten since 2011 so he must be starving!
Good review once again, Cat. I can’t wait for the final few episodes!
8:31
Yeah, we did one after watching the Ouija board movie
*sigh* Another day. Another night. Another Melody Fox Story (and Co-written by Tim Shell) involving idiot bullies. Oh boy, why am I not surprised?... I:(
6 years had passed when I was watching this episode on the haunted hour Carla got payback for that prank her older sister and her two friends did to her
In response to the question about whether girls hold séances at slumber parties: While I've never actually done that at a sleepover, I had a friend once who wanted to try out her ouija board with my friends and I at some party she was planning.
She never had that party so I don't know if she ever actually used the board, but tbh I wouldn't put it past her. She was cool, but also pretty weird. :p
Nice double feature. This is quite a surprise. And yeah I'm also one of those people who didn't like this episode. So that leaves a few episodes left. (10 I think) Guess when these are done, nightmare room, goosebumps, and are you afraid of the dark will be focused more on.
shadowlinkbds Don't worry, we'll get to all those other horror shows real soon. It's only a matter of time.
We can all agree that melody fox sucks at writing horror stories. Could you imagine her writing , horror movies? They be so boring that they could be used as bed time stories for kids.
So, the scariest thing about this episode was that it was written by Melody Fox?
In my earlier videos, I talked about how Melody Fox was once one of the best writers of the Haunting Hour until she started to decline in the quality of her good writing. She is at fault for some of the worst episodes of the entire series, which includes Mrs. Worthington, Seance, & especially My Robot.
I knew this was gonna get a decayed skull. This was a dumb episode. Light Out and Dreamcatcher are more scarier than this. Wasted potential for poor Joey King. Dumb laughable moments. And is way worse than a movie with a killer Santa Clause or even a killer Frosty the Snowman.
Wait! Patty was on another Haunting Hour episode! Catching Cold. She was Rowley's sister.
PrinceKiro I didn't bring it up that much since the sister was such an unimportant character that I didn't think anybody would remember her.
This episode makes I'm not Martin look like wrong number that bad!
Melody Fox is offically an insult towards to foxes. Which is an insult to me.
2 videos in 1 day hell yeah 😆
Two Haunting Hour Reviews in one day! :D
Velo: "That's a first..."
I have a request for you can you review the episode checking out from The Haunting Hour also review the Goosebumps episode on Old story and compare it from the short story from the book
Not the cool kids but....
There's a Tales from the Crypt Episode that has an episode of the same name as this Haunting Hour Episode. Only, Crypt's episode is spelled "Seance" without the accented 'é'.
Poor joey king
What editing software do you guys use?
Camtasia Studio 8, which is a lot harder to find nowadays I believe because Techsmith updated the software to Camtasia Studio 9 (which I abhor because the UI is more confusing then 8's) and they only have the most recent version on their website, not even a link to buy a previous version.
- Wolf
Wolf Entertainment Oh. I use IMovie and an app called video editor. But I rarely use the former since it’s hell to work with.
Look daddy teacher says every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings lol
BTW, when do you plan to review the Worry Dolls episode?
Wolf Entertainment Cyrus offs only one idiot bully? Oh ho, ho, ho, ho! I DON'T think so. Oh no! No, no, no, no, no, no. Being that Cyrus & Carla / Joey King have talked about her problems, and being that Cyrus is a Serial Killer, I say he offs one bully for a leg, and the other 2 just for the fun of it...
Or it could be that the idiot bullies are not dead, but rather their legs are chopped off instead, leaving them traumatized & legless for the rest of lives and make them remember to never bully Joey King ever again... Or else...
Either way, Seance may be a horrible episode, but at least Joey King gets a happy ending in this one, and the idiot bullies ACTUALLY ARE getting what's coming to them (something that Mrs. Worthington (the episode, not te character) did absolutely extremely wrong and failed so severly; as my sister would say, it sucked so severly).
I've got to say, I'm not sure about your insistence that we were supposed to be rooting for the bullies; I came away with the exact opposite impression. Have the writers actually said that was their intention? On another note, what's your take on the trailer for the new Goosebumps movie? I guess you're happy that there's no Jack Black as RL Stine, at least.
Andrew Clendening My sources are the usual basic stuff like the Haunting Hour wiki, regular wiki (truly a reliable source, right?), and TV Tropes. I mostly based off my argument that the bullies are meant to be sympathetic based on the fact that they don't really suffer a harsh karmic punishment throughout the whole story like Steffani on Wrong Number being scared straight by a ghost of her victim or Jared getting harassed by Uncle Howee for being a jerk towards his sister. We are meant to be scared that the ghost they summoned is coming to get them and are meant to feel afraid for them when the ghost reveals that he does want 1 of their legs. If we were truly meant to hate the bullies then Cyrus should have killed them all off, but he's only choosing 1 person.
TV Tropes lists this twist ending under the Cruel Twist Ending, which is meant to be a dark ending for somebody who didn't deserve to die while the Karmic Twist Ending is the dark conclusion given to a villain protagonist who deserved to suffer their death. I also based my opinions on how badly Melody Fox writes her bully characters. In Seance, we are meant to be entertained by the 3 stooges despite the fact that they mocked Joey King and we follow them hiding as they try to stay alive in an attempt for us to hope they don't get killed. In My Robot, the bullies were honestly meant to be comic relief characters since they have so many cringe-inducing jokes & the heroes turn to them for help. Then in Fox's last episode Mrs. Worthington we are meant to like the idiot bully who caused her little brother to go insane and view the one character who wants to punish the bully for being bad as the true evil.
I am convinced that the episode wants us to view the idiot bullies as characters who were just fools that more than what they bargained for and that the writer wants us to see them as kids who just made a mistake. Even if you don't agree with me on the bullies attempting to be sympathetic, this episode is severely lazy and boring. We follow characters that we don't give a crap about, making the episode a dull fest. If we were meant to hate the bullies then they would suffer more in the episode like in better karma episodes, not follow their desperate attempts to survive the ghost.
And no, I have not seen the trailer to the Goosebumps sequel.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree about the intention of the episode. But whatever, it sounds like you're not a fan of the episode regardless of that. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either.
Andrew Clendening I didn't bring it up that much, but this episode did make it onto my Top 5 Haunting Hour Episodes That I Hate But Everyone Loves video. I just couldn't get into it.
Wolf Entertainment 65 subs left to 666: the Number of the Beast. Maybe a 666 sub Haunting Hour Special in the Temple Background with special appearances by te Beast (from Iron Maiden Legacy) and Sonic.Exe? AWWWWW YEAH!! :D
two are here
Cyrus Clayton? HEY! You're not Galactic Boss Cyrus from Pokemon! He got that name first! And your not Clayton from Tarzan either! Double name stealer!
Can’t find it here in English and r.l. Stine is from Ohio
I wish, but the only thing me and a close friend ever did that was considered evil was play an ouija board. Nothing happened. Satanic rituals are too much for my main squad since they are all heavy christians (or at least don't want t do that kinda stuff.) XD Me and the girls don't do satanic rituals here :p
this episode is so boring even the bad guy was stupid he could have been written better if the writer wasn't so boring i mean look at some of the anime villains and video game one they have so much better evil people there it was worth it but this is so disappointing i would rather throw my tv out the window and the parents are you kidding me i know they do not show them in the episode but omg they left the kids alone in the house and the older sister needs to be punished to what she had done i blame the whole family for being to horrible and the friends that was watching an adult scary movie at least i think it was how could the writers do that these kids are far to young to watch things like that
