Glad you're getting around to playing the original. I will say, the heavy scanlines you have (BVM maybe?) really dulls the colors so you're actually getting an experience more analogous to playing it on a launch GBA that had no backlight. You definitely had a bit more slowdown than I had playing on an actual GBA. It's usually just in level 9 that there's any noticeable drops. 12:48 Never tempt fate. XD I am definitely fiending for some more Battlecry. I plan on playing that myself pretty soon. No pressure though, I know how tough it can be. Personally I like the Phalanx destroid the most. The weapons do the most damage and have the biggest hitbox. The only problem is that it can only take two hits so you have to be really careful. It's definitely better on the wide-open Mars than the tight SDF-1 level. The Zentraedi officers don't mess around in this version. I just try to kill them as fast as possible because they never miss their laser. Thanks for putting Shooting Insight on my radar. I hadn't heard about it yet. Looks really cool, like a NieR-esque mixing of shooting genres. Can't wait to get my hands on that. If you do an Advanced difficulty run then I simply must request the Lucky Chicken for your character. I think that would be perfect haha. If that's too much trouble though, my second choice would be Zentraedi Miriya. Can't make things too easy on you. :P You actually handled To The Stars really well, I was impressed. The congratulations screen at the end is definitely a plus of this version. All it needs is some broken english to be fully complete. XD Thanks for the playthrough. Even after playing/watching this game all the way through **counts on fingers** 26 times, I'm still not tired of it. I think it might be pretty good. I really wanna try out the Coop and VS modes someday, but for now they will keep taunting me.

I love whenever I get the chance to play older games in the original hardware, or something that is a close second, over emulation. It's really cool that I got a similar experience to playing on a launch GBA, just gives it that more of a vintage feel-even if my hardware is modern.
Slowdowns are unfortunate, but I do recall that UN Squadron (Area 88), another of my favorite side-scroller shoot'em ups, in the Super Nintendo had multiple slowdowns in all stages. I recently had slowdowns playing Mechwarrior (first person game) on the Analogue NT (a hardware-based SNES like the Pocket I used to play Robotech).
Mechwarrior also was slowdown city in the original SNES, lol.
At 12:48 I tempted fate so hard, it just decided to slap me down. Sometimes I do that. I need to stop doing that. It's always bad for my health. As for Battlecry, I just need to stop with the nonsense, sit down, and do it. There's time constraints, things to do, and so forth, but one must make time for the things that need done, and I haven't been doing that regarding Battlecry. Gotta up my game.
Regarding the Zentraedi Officers, I was surprised. I did not remember that behavior from the Remaster version. They are very aggressive in the GBA version, and the laser does not miss at all. It was a fun (if annoying) surprise to be sure. Kill on sight with extreme prejudice and no regard for taking hits is definitely the way to go. No fancy tactics, just walk up to them and fire point blank.
I put a link to Macross Shooting Insight's website in the description. Seems it will be available on multiple platforms (Switch, Steam, PS4 / PS5) which is awesome. I hope it sells well, and more Robotech games are made. March 14 is Shooting Insight, I believe, and I'm really excited about it.
You have piqued my interest with the chicken. Seems I need to unlock all pilots to unlock it? I also saw there's a code you can input and that might unlock everything as well. I'm going to create a whole new profile for the advanced run. Maybe I'll just use the code so I don't have to wait too long to jump into the madness.
Thanks for the compliment! To the Stars was nothing but pain in the beginning. I had to retry that stage so many times in my original Remaster playthrough it was not funny at all. Seems I improved since I last attempted it, haha.
I was disappointed when all I got in the Remaster ending was "Congratulations" on a purple background. I'm not sure why they didn't add the pilot's artwork, or a scene from Macross City, or something. Still, I really enjoy this game. I've gotten to the point where I want to master it. Not all games are for everyone, and not everyone will feel the same about a given game, but it is fantastic when a game, an old game at that, can interest players enough to go the extra mile to unlock everything and master them-especially if it's a 20 year-old game.
Co-Op and VS in this game needs a link cable, right? And obviously multiple GBA systems.
