Sam, I appreciate your full disclosure, honesty and knowledge. I have 2 trauma kits, one on my belt set up and a larger one on my backpack (backpack is with me everyday). I also have a first aid kit on my backpack. The trauma kit on my backpack has a few duplicates of the kit I use on my belt. Like you stated, it is much cheaper to source the supplies and then get a pouch. I use the Maxpedition FR1 for my backpack trauma kit and first aid kit and a High Speed Gear Reflex on my belt. I also keep TQ's x 2 on each set up. Then I bought all the supplies from a few different sites depending on cost. We also have a discount medical supply store locally, it has been a great place for the basic supplies at a much lower cost. And no I am not a medic, just a firearms instructor. I have a friend that is a medic that was gracious enough to spend quality time with me teach me how to use all the stuff, minus a decompression needle of course. Keep up the great content, it is very much appreciated!
Thanks for the review and breakdown. If I'm using this as an IFAK, the contents will be used on me when I go down. If I'm suffering a pneumothorax, it'd be nice to have a decompression needle in my kit so when you come along to treat me you don't have to use your supply from your bag, or if another pro realizes the injury but their needle is in their kit in the vehicle that now someone has to go run and retrieve.
Great video man, I love the blue force gear whisperer mollie, definitely the easiest I’ve dealt with, I have the micro trauma now kit and I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the plus
I agree get rid of excess packaging. Prep your gear for immediate use. I remove the outer packaging of my field dressing but then fold some duct tape over the end you open and make a cut down to the open point. It helps with grip and identifying the opening point. Great review. I agree as a medic I don’t want a bag that I have to keep putting back. I use Fat boy that works well. As for chest seals were issued the sam chest seal. It’s a bit more bulky. But hey it’s free ..er issued. I also issue the guys a triangular bandage and a 10cm roller bandage. We don’t have compression gauze issued as part of our IFAK.
Oh tell me about costs. As volunteer SAR we’re spending a fortune - anything by Celox or SAM has practically doubled - and pocket BVM’s all but vanished for a while. Great review however :)
i have some bag pack attachment systems on both of my plate carriers, and they are both equipped with a very similar to the whisper system. and without a doubt the easiest way to attach molle. and ive not had a failure as of yet.
I keep looking at kits that come with gloves, and keep seeing the gloves in "kids' sizes." When buying gloves, I start at XXL, so end up switching in gloves I find that actually fit my outsize mitts.
I love it! Do you think you could review an IFAK from Refuge Medical? Apparently they are expensive but if you save somebody with one (car wreck, GSW, construction accident, what ever) they’ll replace all the contents for free. Would love to see your thoughts on it, they offer a ton of different kits.
Thank you for the great reviews. I've watched at least five of your reviews and am still unsure as to what will best fit my need. I am looking for a small-to-medium medical kit (about the size of a Trauma Kit Now!; Skinny Medic; My Medic; LTC Get Home alive, etc). The primary purpose is to carry on my motorbike rides - mostly on-road. I've done two wilderness first aid courses (taught by a former Army medic), so I have some basic first aid training. Which kit(s) would you recommend? Thank you.
On my budget, I had to be creative and thorough about what I felt might be needed in an emergency away from civilization. I have several ways to stop blood flow in severe lacerations, puncture wounds, and / or gunshots wounds. Having a comprehensive trauma kit could be the difference between life and death.
When it is coming up on expiration or repack time, I'll just do it a month early and give the older supplies to a free clinic or a paramedic or fire cadet trauning program. They can still use it. Beats throwing them out two months later!
Kind of off topic question for the community. I work seasonally and enjoy moving from state to state. I am taking an EMT course this fall and have been looking at work options in different areas. One of the requirements for the jobs I have found seems to be an in-state drivers license. Is this a hard and fast rule for most services? Or is it possible to find work with an out of state license?
8:08 Re needle decompression. This jut got me wondering whether commercial fixed wing airlines carry a decompression needle in case of pneumothorax? What sort of kit would they have if the call goes out "is there anyone medically qualified on board". Chest drain? Stehoscope? Sphyg? I guess a doctor could ask security at check in to hold any kit that might include sharps, medicines or other potential weapons. The last several times I've stopped to render first aid a number of hospital consultants, doctors and nurses have passed by and stopped. Not one had anything in their car. At an overdose, for instance I'd to ask around for a BVM. One of the doctors asked "what's that"
If you take the outer package off the compression dressing UV light degrades the plastic bars inside and they become brittle. Being in a pouch does not seem to prevent that UV effect.
Dr. Alton (Dr. Bones) and Nurse Amy have a kit. There is a recent video on their channel. It's designed for 3 people (though really it can deal with more in most cases). There appears to be enough room to add an additional set of trauma supplies. They also give you a lot of options as far as Celox vs Chito Sam vs Combat Gauze, and CAT vs Sam XT vs SOF T Wide. I like that. The bag comes in red or tactical colors. I hope that helps.
I’m a advance EMT in PA. I would a decompression needle for my pov but all the websites I visit to buy one say I need a doctors approval. Any way I could get one without bothering my Command doc?
Are there any hacks for medical supplies? I worked with an ex medic who suggested tampons as packing gauze......it’s best to buy the legit gear I’m sure but with the crazy prices it’s hard to be prepared. If death is the result of no action then maybe some other items may be ok?
Oh god. Using tampons for packing gauze is one of the worst pieces of advice out there. Doesn’t work even a little. There are some “tricks” out there but that ain’t one
Agree with Sam on that one completely. That stupid tampon advice needs to die. If you're looking for tricks and off grid medical preparedness stuff, check out Dr. Alton and Nurse Amy. They have a lot of legitimate stuff like that on their channel.
Depends on Where you live. In Australia Red Cross/St John’s or if you want something more tactical tacmed Australia or there is survive First Aid Australia.
@@code-dredd some generic advice no matter where your located. Find a course that fits in with what your requirements are. Seek out feedback from past students. Even though cost is an issue sometime the cheapest are not always the worst and the more expensive courses are not always the best. If this is a stepping stone to more advanced courses make sure the course can progress onto where your going (look at the prerequisites). It will save you having to repeat a course because it didn’t have all the requirements to lead onto the next level. Make sure the theory behind is matched with good practical skills and scenarios. The instructors won’t necessary be at a professional level of education and experience. But will be great (hopefully) first aid instructors and relevant to their experience. Is the course accredited? Final Tip research, research and more research. Good luck 👍
I bought an “Israeli” bandage and it comes with an expiration date. Why?! I’m trying to build a kit where I won’t have to worry about expiration dates, I’m non combat non medic who enjoys hiking and the outdoors.
Why spend a lot of money buying that when I could get a band-aid for free. Go to any hospital or medical store and ask for a free Left over items they can donate. I've done it it works. Get a tactical fanny pack of your choice and color turn it into a bonifide tactical gear/IFAK. I'm thinking of making a video of my kit I built for half the cost of that kit. Works the same if not better boy! Y'all should see what I made with ID reflectors torniquit scissors etc I'll be famous if I decide to show my kit for sure

Fellow tac medic here. H&H recommends using a "breaking" motion on the gauze. That will expose the end of the gauze.
Supercool! I'm subscribing!
Any clue on when your patches are coming out? Btw great vid

What company do you recommend to purchase a trauma kit

@@trentsteel4421 I should've mentioned this is in the US. I've edited my post. Also, the cost is important, too.

$80 or much more and no tourniquet? Easy to put together a more complete kit for much less, even with the case.
