Yes! I actually did a ton of research on this - as long as you take the required prerequisites and get good grades in whatever you major in, PA programs are pretty flexible in accepted majors.

This was a great interview! Neurosurgery NOT for me!😣 I'm a Hospitalist PA in Washington, D.C. The great thing about medicine is there are specialties for all!

This is very nice to watch. I am a second year PA student who will be doing my elective rotation in Neurosurgery in June. I have been trying to learn all about the ins and outs of APP's in the role of Neurosurgery. This was helpful.

Do you know if surgical pas can assist in complex surgeries?

@@theholysynopsis5100 In the 3 settings I have been in so far (OBGYN, neurosurgery, & general surgery), the PA's have been 1st assist. Even in more complex cases.

Thank you for this very informative interview. Will you please interview more in-depth NP or PA who primarily work in the operating room as first assist or in whatever capacity is permitted. Thank you.

Question. Why does a PA-C of neurosurgery I know say she is just as good as the surgeon doctors above her, and can perform all the surgeries herself? Are PA-C's allowed to do surgeries themselves without an MD supervisor? Just curious. Thank you

I'll be starting clinical year of PA school in a couple months and I'm considering going into neurosurgery. How much OR time does a neurosurgical PA get to have and in what capacity?

I didn’t hire a PA I hired a neurosurgeon! I do not wanna PA messing with my spinal cord!!!!!!!!
Dear new back surgery patients do not see a PA at all demand to have this neurosurgeon be in the operating room before and after your surgery and in the office so they can call you back if there is a complication with your spinal cord and not a PA!!!!!

A PA cannot perform surgery alone unless very noninvasive or a minor surgery. They are the often the first assist in a surgery but the surgeon with be performing the major role of your surgery. They are not licensed to perform on their own.
