- Is secularism dying in India? The topic saw a fierce debate between two groups comprising politicians and historians at the India Today Conclave on Friday. While Trinamool Congress leader Riju Datta, one of the speakers debating for the motion, said secularism was dying because the ruling BJP practised "majoritarianism", BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla countered him, asserting that "Nehruvian secularism" gave nothing to the country.
Riju Dutta, Trinamool Congress spokesperson, Ashutosh, columnist and author, and Shama Mohamed, Congress national spokesperson spoke for the motion. Shehzad Poonawalla, BJP's national spokesperson, Hindol Sengupta, historian and author, and Shehla Rashid, a human rights activist, spoke against the motion.
Aryama Sundarama, senior advocate, Swapan Dasgupta, former MP and author, and Deepak Verma, President of The Debating Society of India were part of the jury.

Shehzad - The most logical and true indian representative in BJP..!
Summary of my observation is; as long as majority religion silently bears the humiliation, insults, poking fun, their beliefs and culture beaten with decades of draconian legislation, secularism is intact in the country. The moment majority religion understands what is going on and raises collective voice, secularism is dying. If the party of my choice wins, democracy is intact, if not democracy is dying. If my chosen party wins and forms government, EVMs are fine, otherwise EVMs are tampered. Fortunately, we are in digital age and the hypocrisy of pseudo-secularists are now quite open for many to figure out

I echo the fact that India is secular because majority Hindus are secular by nature. None of muslim majority nations are secular and dont give rights to their minorities and oppress them , people should remember this major fact . Bengal got partitioned on religious grounds and remaining small part of West Bengal has still not learnt that Hindus have been reduced in numbers both in Bangladesh and in West Bengal and this in itself is the biggest threat to secularism.

You should have had 2 rounds of voting.
1st round of voting before they hear any soeaker, which is how they feel about the subject ab initio.
2nd round of voting after the speajers finish.
The difference between the two round tells you how much the speakers moved the audience.
For example if 24% vote for the proposituin before debate starts and 76% vite against.
At end of debate 30% vote for the proposition and 70% against. Then the winner is the team that argued for the proposition.
Just remember Mr Datta you are not serving as early you shrieked like any thing from Originsl भारत because of like you people who thinks solely for themselves not country as whole.
