I think he's truely slipped further into his role than he thinks, at first he did it because it would not be a good thing to reveal that you have absolutely no idea what's going on, but over time he seems to have embraced the events that brought him to this point, not even bothering with his previous morals

Some things to point out here:
-The guards who got scared ran backwards in fear, crushing a few of their allies, these were the only deaths of the empire in battle.
-The monsters that Ainz invoked, crushed all the enemies until a red sea of viscera was left along the plain, at the end they could only hear the sound "splat" from the monsters walking in the blood, the word "splat" occupies a whole page in the novel.

To the soldiers, this was an unparalleled display of power and cruelty, the likes of which go down in history as the stuff of myths and legends, only to be told as cautionary tales for generations to come.

I also love that end bit where Ainz said he was an undead. He was trying to clarify his race but the soldier interpreted it as him wanting to slaughter all living beings which is the base instincts for the typical undead.

This was by far the most evil scene in the entire anime up to this point. He summoned several giant monsters through ritual sacrifice of hundreds if not thousands of people, and then outright told those who he didn't sacrifice to applaud his great power, his massacre.
70,000 is the exact number.... note, the Emperor had assumed if he was on par with the greatest sorcerers/dragons/devils of legend, he'd have only killed 5~10 thousand with one spell, so they were 'expecting' 3~5 thousand.

@@lorekeeper685 I think ainz said that it was a new record when he killed 70k and the amount of people killed contribute to the amount of monsters that are spawned in.
@@lorekeeper685 The spell has no lower limit, but for every certain amount of victims, another 'Dark Child' is summoned. Ainz stated in the novel that the results were his best ever, aka he never managed to summon 5 beforehand. So 5 is his personal record.
Then again, even the spell slashing down lower-level victims can be a desirable effect by itself for the caster. The summoning of 'Dark Childs' is a bonus afterward. In return, had the opponents spread out their armies more, the spell was most likely not that effective.
To resist Cavalry, one would stand in tight formations and equip spears and such. But exactly that tactic is detrimental toward surviving area spells.(or modern weaponry for that matter)

Actually level 100 was nothing special since XP was very easy to gain. Everything else, and full set of divine class gear. Yeah, that is hard to achieve.

The gloves mare have on actually store extra exp after lv100 for spells and the such that require it, turning it into a resource that is very hard to get in the new world because there aren’t a lot of high level mobs. So they’re right, THERE IS NEVER TO MUCH EXP

It's a pretty cool scene conceptiually, it was just botched in the anime due to the most boring backround art possible and the overuse of bad CGI. The LN's telling is, simply put, a better version of the scene.

Mr. Canada it sucks that the Ln is coming to a close. Since its finishing it means the anime will follow. It's a shame. Overlord could have had so many more volumes for the Ln and so many more seasons for the anime. Personally I would have liked it if after the end of the Ln, they went to another world where some of the other supreme beings are. After that one 3 more world's where the rest of the supreme beings reside and then overlord would be over. Also each of the world's have seperate arcs. This idea would mean new, obstacles new funny moments and many more volumes and episodes. Sadly it won't happen though. This idea will never be recognized and overlord will have finished with wasted potential when it could have been much more.
@@erikhaugan unfortunately with season 2 and 3 Ainz has progressed more down the path of being a monster rather than human and has lost his previous morals. Having a MC that the audience can't sympathize with spells for difficulty and i doubt the show can last a long time off of a OP undead lord killing humanity mercilessly. If they had cut back on the wanton slaughtering and instead focused more on the "Isekai" portion of issues like him trying to blend in as sorta evil but not really being evil they could have dragged that out a bit longer

Mare clapping in total loving support for ainz is the most Adorable and terrifying thing ever.
Like Ainz just straight up, without an ounce of mercy, slaughter over hundred of thousands of troops with a single spell. The troops behind him are literally witnessing no war but a straight up lambs to a slaughter, it's straight up horror to them.
But to Mare, this is just an Example of his Powerful lords Power, Strength that SHOULD be praised. I'm sure he would be clapping even if Ainz didnt ask for it lol
Sometimes we forget that behind that adorable demeanor, he's actually fairly evil. Mare would slaughter an entire town if Ainz asked him too and he would do it without question. He doesn't care, long as Ainz asked, then it must be worth the effort.

I love how one guy started clapping while the rest remain stagnant and then suddenly one of the Bipedal sheep walks over and everyone started clapping as it draws closer and closer and then everyone started cheering, praising, and clapping faster out superficial excitement from the fear that is basis death approaching them. Suddenly they break formation and ran away.
Eve Hopskin Bipedal sheep (as coined by Demiurge in the show) refers to humans as when he started a skin farm for scrolls he told Ainz that he was using 'bipedal sheep' cus he thought it was funny but Ainz didn’t get the joke/what he was actually referring to. Also idk if these Dark Young Ones have two legs.

The mindset I forced myself to have on the day I defended my term paper was inspired by this scene: in order to face anxiety and defeat It, I spent two weeks feeding my inner megalomaniac psycho Dungeon Master self (Chunny +1000), so I could look down on the audience while presenting, instead of being intimidated by It. At he end of it, I really felt like asking for applauses, and after rewatching this scene many days on a roll, It was right what came to my mind when I finished the presentation. It worked darn well, and I was well evaluated. *Applaud me!!!!*

You have to love Ainz's concern for Mare when he gives him the Gauntlets of Avarice and Generosity to protect him from the possibility of another player or the presence of another World Item.

Actualy quite a few stayed behind in the LN, some of them were simply stunned, others had acquired a sudden morbid facination, others knew that THIS was the power of the gods, a power unlikely to be see firsthand again.

I really want to know what the overall theme and feeling behind Ains is. Maybe a Death Note "he was never the good guy, you shouldn't have been cheering", but I feel like it would be about " Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely". Certainly feels like he's well on his way toward corruption/madness
The theme is "classic fantasy bad guy but with better thought out".
The author of the novels is pretty clear. Ainz could have taken over the world by himself, without the aid of Nazarick. That Ains will take over the world is written in stone, that's where the author wants to go. But what makes things interesting is that while Ainz is basically invulnerable, Ainz cares about his underlings significantly. As such, some people of the new world (ie: Evileye) can go toe-to-toe with the Maids, or the Theocracy can mind-wipe Shalltear.
Ainz will keep doing bad-guy things. But what the author excels at, is making those bad-guy things make sense. Ex: Ainz will leave loot in his dungeon (in hopes that the invaders will go away once they see the gold). Ainz will adventure and mingle with the men, so that he can better understand the world. Ainz meets with heroes and grows fond of them (even if they are his enemy). Ainz wishes to conquer the world, but actually will go through the steps needed to establish a proper kingdom (including diplomatic relations with the nearby kingdoms, Treaties, and so forth)
As much as this is a very enjoyable show, I don't think there really *is* an overall theme. There definitely could have been one and it certainly felt like he was aiming for something at some point but at this point, the series is ending when it does because the author's tired of it. It's literally a hobby he took while still working full time and making like 30k off of writing per year. Like most fanfic writers, he lost the plot somewhere along the way and wrote by the seat of his pants for a while before getting sick of what he'd written and basically giving up. There is no theme, the next book is going to be Ainz destroying the theocracy after he already defeated and tortured the strongest person in the country by a wide margin.

It's a really good intimidation strategy. "See? Even your men clap when I tell them, I am the leader of all armies."
Not what he was intending though. All Ainz wanted to do was put on a grand show, and well, considering most of the casualties in the Baharuth Empire were from suicide, yeah I'd say his show was definitely a haunting display.
