I'm new to this..So I'm having a problem with my insurance co.Topa...They said I need a contract number to make my MC become active...And my friend is with a different insurance co.that don't ask for this information .I have paid a large amount to get this started what should I do? I want to run for the relay not on a contract.
Hello, Do you know what is the smallest size or size requirement of the box truck needed for Owner Operator Relay for Amazon? I've been looking all over for this information and can't find it. Looking on purchasing a truck but don't know what size is acceptable. Thanks
This is the best channel for trucking related matters on entire RUclips. Thanks Tony for spending your valuable time answering all new truckers and experienced truckers questions!!
Is there a grace period for when you check in for a load with Amazon freight? Like do you have a 10 minute 15 minute grace period before you consider late after your arrival time?
Are supposed to get bill of lading from each warehouse? Or is the schedule in relay app considered BOL? Because they never give me one. Just wondering what I would show DOT if I got pulled in
Wow! That’s great, man! I’d love to pick your brain a bit on your operation. I have no desire to do that, but I’m curious about the logistics and so forth. Send me an email at truckingtopicstoday@gmail.com if you’re interested.
I was wanting to know if Amazon accepts "Occupational Accident Insurance Coverage" in place of "Workers Compensation Insurance" ? I'm having a hard time getting coverage for Workers Comp as a stand alone policy. I've already gotten a policy with Progressive for all the other insurance premiums, however, they don't offer that piece of coverage. Could you recommend a company that does, if you know of any?
Hi Sherah. Do you know for sure if your state requires you to have workers comp? My state did not because I was the owner of the business, and I was the only driver. Amazon gave me a waiver. I’m not sure about the occupational insurance.
Tony I'm glad you are sharing good information. Tony I have one cuestión. What do you think about the 20% a company broker is asking to move Amazon loads. Second question is. Amazon relay take you with one unit only.
I got my authority activated and amazon sent me an email saying I had to wait 2 weeks for MC to register in their system. Its been 2.5 weeks and I still get the same alert when I enter my DOT and MC on Relay. " you don't meet the requirements" Ive gone through everything on the list and I don't see where I am missing anything. Not sure what to do at this point
Quick question 🤔 we just got started as a carrier. We went to do the Assigned training- GET started with Relay 101. The video starts with no pics, but audio only. I create a message to support, but no one has not responded in two days. What's your suggestion?
Lol truck friendly routing my butt been running amazon 8 months now yes the routing will get you from a to b but ive had it try to route me on streets not meant for trucks
Yup...not perfect. In my operation, I never counted on just one routing method; I used Google Earth, Google Street View, and two different GPS systems.
Should I buy a truck b4 getting an active DOT, MC, and COI? Seems like I would have to but that would mean some considerable down time b4 getting to work. Love the videos
You can start the process, but wont be active until you get insurance even after the 30day waiting period. Then it will be on hold for up to 90days as they wait for your insurance and as you know you would need to get a truck to have something to insure. Then once you do that it take a week before the insurance is available and active for brokers to see. So pay the $300 start the countdown and in about 21days have the truck and insurance so when the waiting period is over you are active. But theres also a lot more to do to be Legal, despite your DOT # being active
So if I have a 26ft box truck and I don't have a trailer and I'm the only person driving do I still gotta get the trailer, cargo and workers compensation insurance on my insurance as well
I understand that workers comp is not needed in CA if you are the owner AND operator (only one driver-yourself). Is that the same case for Employer Liability, or do I have to have that insurance even if it’s just me (owner operator)? Thanks for the great information.
Amazon requires employer liability for everyone. The only exemptions they will give is for workers comp if your state does not require it, and non-owned trailer if you are a box truck company.
Not sure what you are asking here. You can do whatever type of loads you want, be it interstate or intrastate. However, Amazon requires you to be a interstate company as far as your FMCSA authority is concerned.
Thank you man you are a great help, I was wondering if you know would they have a problem with a truck that has a salvage or rebuild title but a good truck?
Do you have an updated video on Amazon Relay maybe that discusses loads & load availability, for me that would but outa Las Vegas, not to include CA. Thx
Thank you for your video, is very helpful. I have a question if you can help. Would I be able to apply to Amazon Relay without having the semi Truck yet?
Hi Sir I don't have DOT or MC yet but I am owner operator Amazon under a company authority and I have CDL year and half ago my question is . Do I have the Right to know or see how much Amazon paying him ? Do you think is better to get my own DOT and MC and work with Amazon straight? If yes Do you think I can get staple loads during the year? Thank you
So it sounds like you are leased to another company that pulls Amazon loads. If that’s the case, what the owner is making on a load is their business. They can decide to show you that information if they choose. It is always better to, financially, to run with your own authority, as you cut down on the middlemen taking a cut of the load. Regarding stable loads throughout the year, all I can say is that you can gauge that yourself by the area you are running in. Are you busy there with Amazon loads with your current situation? Some areas are better than others in the Amazon system. Here in the Southwest, we have steady work all year. Thank you for your question. Be safe...
First I want say thank you for your response my message , He charging me %15 and I am not sure if this called lease or not , I am in Las Vegas kind of busy and my route start vegas to California Or Arizona Or Utah Within 7 to 10 stops in 2 days , the miles start 750 to 900 miles with no extra money those 3 times a week it's mean 6 days
Hey Tony. The workers comp insurance and employer liability no less the 100k. Are these two coverages something I’d have to outsource outside of the companies comercial insurance?
It depends on the insurance carrier. I would say that most people outsource the WC. However, before you purchase WC, make sure you need it. If your state does not require it for your business, Amazon will not require it.
i was wondering also its says that you have to be active for 6months for amazon relay whats are some places i can load with not being active for that long
I was wondering if you have knowledge with regard to the type of commercial vehicles does Amazon Relay accepts. I have a RAM Promaster Cutaway box truck van would it be eligible for taking loads? Surely I have MC DOT and all good stuff. Thank you for your prompt response.
Just wondering if you could go into more detail about getting started with just a tractor and using Amazon's trailer. Is there a fee? Are you paid drastically less? Do they take a percentage of your earnings?
There is no fee when working Amazon’s Relay board. I find that loads that require your own trailer are not a huge advantage over power only loads. The negative with your own trailer is having to be loaded and unloaded, however the positive is that is does give you more flexibility in choosing loads.
Because federal regulation states if the commodity “the goods/freight” at some point in it’s existence crosses state lines then it is considered “Interstate” commerce. All “Interstate” carriers must have a MC number.
I loved your video and can't thank you enough for posting it. I got my call this past Friday and soon after the call I got the email link. I am going to use the 800 nbr provided to call in at 1pm. I have a 2018 International reefer box truck and you mentioned to call to be sure they can load the truck. I can carry ten to twelve 40x28 but only six 48x28 pallets. I've noticed on many videos the size of the pallets vary but I've also noticed how many box truck loads they have. I've got to get a pallet jack before I can book a load. A guy posted a video about his reefer box truck being used by Amazon. I don't think they would turn down anything that can carry some sort of load. lol Am I correct in my assumption that despite the pallet size issues I will find work with them? Do they give the dimensions of the loads as you book them? I can go on the load board but without that pallet jack it would do me no good so I haven't gone that far yet.
I’m sure you get loads with Amazon, but remember, Amazon is Amazon. When you don’t have their required equipment, in this case a 26’ box that can handle a full load…what may be good today, may not be good tomorrow. They do not post the details about the loads. A pallet jack is absolutely necessary as you have to both load and unload.
@@TruckingTopicsToday Thanks for that tip. Tuesday is the big day (the phone interview) and from there I go get my first load. I'll let you know next week how it went. Thanks again.
Hi thank you for you videos. We have a truck on Amazon relay and we want to delete the box truck and post a tractor we just bought. Can you help us with that? Thank you!
You are your own boss, and Amazon does not at this time have any policies on how much you pull. I went a year without pulling, and still had access to the Relay board.
What's the oldest year truck or box truck and the box truck size is allowed to be used? I'm in the market for a box truck, I saw a decent 18" Isuzu that I think would be great for a delivery truck.
Are you able to use a 26ft rental truck? If so, are you able to use the insurance from the rental truck company or do you have to already have your own insurance setup?
Both good questions. I don’t know about the 26ft truck. I will almost certainly say that the rental insurance will not satisfy Amazon’s requirements. Go to relaypartner.com to see if there are some answers there for you. Please let us know if you find anything out. Be safe...
Unfortunately yes. The reason is because Amazon gives you access to the whole Relay board that includes both 26’ box truck loads as well as 53’ semi loads. With all of their technology, they are not smart enough to differentiate owners as to what equipment they actually have and push only those load types to you.
I like your videos. Does Ohio require workers comp if you are hiring a driver as an independent contractor? Also if you are driving for yourself, do you need workers comp? It looks like Amazon is making this extra layer hard.
Yes you do. The reason is because Amazon is giving you access the the complete Relay board, which includes power only loads. They don’t keep track of what equipment you have to pull their loads, whether its box truck or power only. For that reason, everybody needs trailer coverage.
Amazon does require a 26’ box truck with lift gate, pallet jack and straps. With that said, owners do show up with 24’ trucks all the time. You would just run the risk of a load on a particular day needing a 26’ truck, in which you can be turned away. I suspect these situations are few and far between…except perhaps during Q4.
My MC/DOT is active, but it says dosen't met compliance requirements. Although my insurance is not 1milion until yesterday. But today its 1milion. Wat wud be the problem?
Once my DOT number is active. Do I have to have my insurance requirements in place as well before applying to Amazon relay. Btw I just own one truck is that ok
One truck is fine for Relay. So, in order for your DOT authority to become activated, you will already have at least the minimum insurance requirements as far as the DOT is concerned. But yes, you will need to have the other coverages required by Amazon before you apply.
Hi my name is Anthony Goris and I have a trucking business that delivers in Amazon Relay and I would like to know how to add other Domicile to my load board
It used to be that you could do that in the ‘old days’...lol. Now, you are stuck with whatever Amazon assigns you that is closest to the location of your operation. However, it means nothing. You still have access to all of the Relay board, nationwide.
In Mississippi you don’t need workmans comp with less than 5 employees. Can Employer liability be purchased separately because my insurance company doesn’t offer it
My wifes cousins do this and they bought 2 box trucks and a new right hand drive jeep rubicon and are going to Europe for a week next month 😮💨. I would ask them for advice but my wife and them are super boujee
Hey first time watching and subscribed ASAP because you are very informative. But I do have a question. You said you need a trailer replacement coverage what if your using a 26” box truck no trailer do I still need this coverage or no because I am using a box truck?

Unfortunately yes. The reason is because Amazon gives you access to the whole Relay board that includes both 26’ box truck loads as well as 53’ semi loads. With all of their technology, they are not smart enough to differentiate owners as to what equipment they actually have and push only those load types to you.
How long it takes to get pay, after you dispute?they didn't pay one load,so I dispute,,thanks
Usually 1-4 weeks.
Is it better/to you your own trailer ha Amazon? Would it give you more money in your pocket?
What are the steps to open a load dispute?
Email Relay support through the app with the load ID and details about the dispute.
I like your videos. Does Ohio require workers comp if you are hiring a driver as an independent contractor? Also if you are driving for yourself, do you need workers comp? It looks like Amazon is making this extra layer hard.
Do you still need the coverage for a trailer if you drive a box truck ?
I definitely need to know this too. Why do we need a trailer coverage if we ain’t driving a trailer I have box truck
Yes you do. The reason is because Amazon is giving you access the the complete Relay board, which includes power only loads. They don’t keep track of what equipment you have to pull their loads, whether its box truck or power only. For that reason, everybody needs trailer coverage.
Hello, do you know if Houston Texas has loads for box trucks
How many truck or trucks are needed to pull for the amazon relay?
Do I need "Trailer Replacement Coverage" if I'm driving a box truck?
Nope
Is there a requirement on the size of box truck you start with and do they require a power lift gate for the box truck?
Amazon does require a 26’ box truck with lift gate, pallet jack and straps. With that said, owners do show up with 24’ trucks all the time. You would just run the risk of a load on a particular day needing a 26’ truck, in which you can be turned away. I suspect these situations are few and far between…except perhaps during Q4.
Hello, can you please clarify if Amazon Relay requires liftgate definitely??
Thanks, sir for all the useful info you give in your videos. Keep it up!!!
Thank you for watching, Doston. Be safe...
As of today does your MC NUMBER need to be valid for 30 days or more to haul?
You can haul day one of your authority once approved with Amazon.
Hello question here hauling an amazon trailer broke down or a flat tire who pays flr repairs?
Amazon pays for all trailer maintenance. However, you MUST call dispatch so they can coordinate the repair.
Do you need employer liability even if you are the owner and the only driver?
It depends on your state. You will need to research that.
Thanks for info
I added my two truck but but still have not got an invite to see the load board plz help thanks
Do they require one member LLC owner operators to have workers compensation? Since I'm the owner and the driver of the company am I exempt from this
You will need to Google that information for your particular state.

I'm talking about Amazon relay. State doesn't require me to have a worker's compensation insurance.
Amazon follows state laws.
In Mississippi you don’t need workmans comp with less than 5 employees. Can Employer liability be purchased separately because my insurance company doesn’t offer it
I’m sure you can. Google that information for your state.
As of now, Not needed if you are a box truck company. But Amazon being Amazon, they can always change their mind…
If I wanted to jump on the relay game (box truck). When is the best time of year to start this business to cover a good portion of startup costs?
Start rolling by end of August, first part of September. That’s my humble opinion. Others may have different thoughts.
